  • For my first video, I wanted to lay out some basics about quakers. I think it's so important to understand everything you possibly can about your pet, especially one as complicated and intelligent as a parrot. The more you know, the better you can care for your bird! Let me know in the comments what else you would like to see on our channel!

    Really interested in getting a quaker. Was wondering if maybe you could do a “day in life” type video that details what routine daily care and activities looks like with a parrot. I absolutely adore you and tiki!

      I agree. It's like owning a toddler that never grows, but if you can tolerate that, they give you so much love and love bites...lol. I potty/cage trained Stanley. Most importantly, Engage not Cage. Your parents should be out of his cage for most of the day.

    This woman is fun to watch. I can't tell if she's just really funny or slightly high. Or if Tiki is actually stoned, cuz Tiki looks like that kind of parrot.

    Quacker parakeets are the cutest, i really want to get a pet but i feel like I want to be different, it’s not like I don’t think having a bird is not but I just want to have a bird that not a lot of people can take care of. So I have decided to get an owl, I did some research but I’m not done I’m currently planning on getting one in two years. If any of you have any objections to change my mind please do cause it’s expensive but I’m ready but still I don’t think my family liked this idea as much as I do. message to Michelle: YOU MADE ME OBSESSED WITH BIRDS I SWEAR I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO OBSESSED WITH ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THANK YOU AND TIKI FOR CONSTANTLY EMPOWERING MY BIRD FEVER

    Congrats on your first video on here...I love seeing Tiki on Tiktok 😍 thanks for the info. We just got our 1st Quaker 1 month ago she is 3 months old now and we called her Rio thinking it was a boy...well...it is a girl lol. So we are contemplating changing her name since she is still young. You are right there's not as much info on Quakers compared to other species. I'm nervous about having a female just because of the egg laying. Do you know much about that? Maybe you could share?

    This is so cute! And you're very pretty. You seem to be very aware of her needs, I hope she's still doing great. I just adopted Opal a 7 month old Grey Quaker, I love her so much but she's *SO* shy and skittish.
    My sweet baby Taco passed away, the little guy in my thumbnail account pic, a green cheek Conure, Sept 2nd 2022 and he stole my soul that day. I still cry over him all the time. My boyfriend bought me Opal hoping she will help me heal and as a new companion, I have high functioning autism so companion birds are great for people like me. Except for the sad parts, I went into a horrific depression and life has been very hard since his passing. I have never been so devastated. . . even by a human passing. Please take care of your Tiki, she may get annoying or get on your nerves but she loves and trusts you and I can tell. Let me tell you something else, if anything were to happen to her, you'll never forget it and you'll never forgive yourself. When she bites at your face like that she isn't trying to hurt you, she just thinks of it as playing and you part of her flock, you should be grateful she feels this way. Hope you still have her and are taking care of her. An update would be nice, thanks, Will.

    Ive had a quaker for 4 years, its me and my moms.
    He is a green male, supposed to live for i think 34 years? Correct me if im wrong.
    But he eats bird seed, and he isnt overweight or underweight.
    He loves to throw stuff off the counter
    Beware, when he was littler, he tore apart a rubber phonecase and ripped all they keys out of the keyboard
    He likes to crack open sunflower seeds
    He likes to take paper or tortilla and bite off a tiny bit and roll it into a ball and drop it
    He also sometimes gets a little bite of our veggies or for treats, tiny bits of tortilla 😂 what youd need to worry about is making sure they file their beak because kiwi, our parrot, doesnt usually like to.
    It also depends on the parrot, but mine likes to just chill and sit on your shoulder or on a surface next to you, and he isnt always clingy.
    We let him fly around the house, and lock him up at night and when we are gone.
    We have a medium sized dog and a small dog, and there was only once incident with our medium sized dog when she was a puppy, but nobody got hurt, just a little shooken up.
    Small birds an easily have heart attacks aswell, so being attacked by another animal could lead to one.
    Our house is usually 75 degrees Fahrenheit, even though quakers are a tropical bird he rarely gets cold.
    We have clipped his wings a couple times when we first got him (the blue wing feathers) but we dont anymore.
    He used to be a little aggressive when we first got him and he was just months old, but slowly he stopped nipping and let us pick him up, he likes cuddling
    and only gives little warning nips now, which are when he just puts his beak around your finger.
    The dogs dont attack him and he doesnt attack the dogs, even when he tries to land on the bigger dog.
    Our parrot doesnt like to play with bead or paper toys, but rings bells when he wants to come out of his cage
    he loves his fuzzy pouch bed
    He knows tons and tons of words and phrases
    He rubs his beak on a surface that he doesnt want you to touch
    He likes to be chased on the counter with little spider fingers then run back to you and repeat
    When we first got him, he did use the paper towel and rip it up to make a nest
    From my experience, i cant put my hands in his cage
    You have to work with him to get him to like you
    The only time ive seen him get hormonal is with the green 'cuddle corner' we put in his cage, but never on anyone.
    I heard that you should only pet parrots on their heads, but we pet all down his head and back and im not sure why you shouldnt
    He does purr sometimes which is like a low grumbling noise
    He has a phrase 'go poopy' and thats his que to use the bathroom 😂
    They poop every 10-15 minutes id say
    BIRD DANDER IS EVERYWHEREEE IT CAN MAKE HIM SNEEZE, LOTS OF BIRD BATHS!
    We have never had a cat, and i dont think we will because we dont want trouble with a cat and bird in the same house
    Any questions or comments, feel free to ask!

    I really NEED help, i also have a quaker parrot we got it when it was a few weeks old and now he is almost 6 years old. He began itching his left side next to where his neck joins his wing, but now it started bleeding and he rips his feather off, we brought him to a vet and they gave him a collar to go around his neck so he cant itch it but he always recovers then itches it again im getting worried because i feel as though his feathers wont grow back and that he will constantly bite him self and he will die. I dont know if this is a normal thing for quakers and i need tips on how to help him! 🥺

    • @adrian.leigh.
      @adrian.leigh. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is not normal for any parrot 🤒🥺. Not sure whats going on🤔 but i would think an avian vet could help you & your quaker. Best of luck to you both!

      Make sure your bird takes lots of baths. It helps their feathers so they’re not so itchy.

  • @lucillearthmann1305
    @lucillearthmann1305 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a Quaker and today, he was biting like crazy. He loves to sit on my shoulder, but tonight, he was downright mean. I eventually had to lead him back to his cage and he sat on his door for awhile. While I did not reward him, it was time for his favorite thing, carrots, so I put some in his treat dish and he went to eat. Any reason why they do this? He really hurt tonight. Thanks for any advice.

    • @aziris6934
      @aziris6934 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi!! So depends on how old your bird is if your Quaker just recently turned one year old Quaker parrots have a complete personality change after a year so they can get a bit aggressive but you just have to be patient and not reward any aggressive behavior. Another thing could be that your bird is hormonal, again just be patient and don’t reward the behavior, if your bird is hormonal the best thing to do is to put it back in their cage and walk away. Then try to interact with them again later! Maybe try having their favorite snacks on you so they associate you with positive feelings :)

    Just got a one year old blue quaker, not hand reared and very scared. He's getting used to me putting chillies in the bars and will take them on his own but will not take from hand just yet he does back up mostly but will sit and eat there with me and is starting to respond to my voice and plays peekaboo. He does relax on his perch and plays with the mirror bell. I'm taking it slow with him and not forcing him onto my hand yet, I want him to take treats from my hand first and maybe up onto a perch before hand. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I would like to get him out the cage asap because he will get bored or territorial. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
