Am I the only one who gets a bit of pleasure every time the show goes to commercial or a “we’ll find out tomorrow” and then immediately cuts to the next section? 😏
I’m from USA born and raised. I love this show and have been sad to see everyone age so fast binge watching, but what a fantastic legacy these folks have created and continue to create.
I am an American born and raised in Massachusetts. What part of the US are you from? We have history going back to the 16th century as a colony.
Watching these programs drives home just how "new" a country the US is.
i really wish we had REAL history like this. best we can muster is 400 years of heavy construction, whereas these guys are finding housing upwards of 1500 years old. our natives were so mobile, they never really left much of a trace outside of the flint sort of stuff
Josh, you should go to Cahokia in southern Illinois across from St Louis, also go to New Mexico to see 5000 years of building.
@@StanSwan I am born and raised in Massachusetts too! There are far more ancient sites in America than people realize. Many burial mounds have been bulldozed, but thousands remain and are unprotected.
You do a wonderful job of incorporating local people into your story-telling archeology. I especially admire your team for utilizing the children. What a great way of educating them about history.

I went to Burford Grammar school & took my GCSE's there in 1969. My friends & i quite often used to walk down into the town during lunch break to the bakery for something delectable if we'd saved our pocket money. Then the hard slog back up the hill ! The town was always beautiful come winter or summer, the history of the place never failed to impress & interest me. The stone work, the oak beams, the atmosphere. Thank you Time Team for taking me back there.

Tony is the largest idiot I have ever seen in my life and he is completely useless and pointless to the show... he claims he has been in archeology for 16yrs but just judging from what he says and does and the way he continuously acts in every episode there is no way in hell that is true
It's great to see the youngsters brought in to help dig; it makes history come alive for them, and they learn that history is more than names, dates, and battles.

thank God there`s still a chance to watch proper TV shows.... this is hands down one of the best shows in TV history for those who want quality entertainment... God bless all of the stars who are no longer with us
Hope one day Time Team comes back with the original cast. Of course Mick will be missed...
Unfortunately it is not going to happen with the original cast. Robin Bush died in 2010 and some less frequent participants like Beric Morley have also died. The remaining regular cast now range in age from their mid fifties to into their eighties.
You might convince a few of them to participate in a remake but many won't have the energy or stamina for the original show pacing (where you would see Tony sprinting from trench to trench).

While the organisation is involved in archaeology, it is very wrong to describe them as being in any way similar to the TV show, Time Team.
@@zarabada6125 Whilst I do understand what you mean *DigVentures* is not a commercial operation and many of the *TT* stalwarts support it. It was inspired by *TT* and *Mick Aston* and although it's definitely not like *TT* it is still fascinating if less well produced.

The earlier post all in caps and making false claims is pure spam. A lot of people would ignore the message on first glance as promoting another spam product. However, those who believe the message will be disappointed that the project is not what it was described to be.
An honest review is always better than trying to attract gullible people with false information.

20 years of our *TT* was a pretty good run. All the episodes are on YT but on different lists.

Yes!! I was also going to say how very lovely that was. The children had a hands on introduction to archeology and history of their area in their very own backyards. Marvelous! That will stay with them. I loved that.
I love it when Time Team does stuff with local school children. It's wonderful to get youth involved in this process. Well done!

Mick looks like he lost a bit of Weight. Sad to see a Man like him full of knowledge pass away, and he was an Atheist as well. I dont think he had any kids, and yet he seemed good with them.
I only recently seen Mick through Time Team, thanks Quarantine for introducing me, I really liked Mick, and I do like Sir Tony, Phil, Stewart, Carenza, and the Time Team.
I wish PBS would Show these Episodes at night around 7 or 8.

What a great experience for those children. It's wonderful that they were able to do that.
Love these episodes but it would be nice, for a show almost entirely concerned with dating stuff, for the description to state the year of recording.

I'm American. It's so lovely to hear you say that the vegetable garden has "come up trumps" (7:51) and not want to scream the way I did when I first discovered *Time Team* a year ago.
To come up tumps is a phrase taken from the modern game "top trumps" invented back in the late 70s. That game and the word is taken from an even earlier Italian card game and the Italian word for triumph, that was played as early as the 15th century...

I live in Norway, but my aunt lives close to Burford, so I have been the main street and the first church one comes to at the bottom of the hill. Fun to see what they find (written before the episode begins)

indulgence do not get you out of hell - if you are in hell - thats it. Indulgence remove (some) temporal stuff from sins if you are in purgatory.

I always wonder how the pottery experts can date a scrap of material within a few seconds - is that really possible?
The different cultures [Iron Age, Roman, Saxon, Medieval] made their pottery in different ways, so the products looked different in color, composition, feel, etc. A trained person can tell by looking at a shard approximately when the pot was made.
In addition to what Greg B said, not only did pottery change quite a bit over time even within any given culture) , but because pottery got used so much( and breaks a lot) it generates lots of trash pretty regularly. Plus, a lot of times even if you have a very small sherd you can infer what the rest of the vessel looked like depending on where in the profile it fits.

2013 was the last regular season, with some specials filmed in 2012-2013, shown through early 2014.
The network made a lot of changes for Season 19, and Mick quit because of that. He died just three months later and the show was cancelled. It had had falling rating for a few years, losing nearly half of its audience between about 2008 and 2012.

Purgatory is not hell according to the Catholics.
Catholics believe that most people are not so evil that God would condemn them forever to Hell, but also that most people are not pure and good enough to go to Heaven straight away. For them, Purgatory is the state of waiting where a person can make up for their sins after death.
