when you mentioned Devil Bringer, my thought turned to one stage in DMC3. when you're running around with some power orb and forced into Devil Trigger mode for the whole stage while your health is being drained. plus side to that stage which outweighs the curse is all enemies drop health to keep you alive, which makes that stage pretty fun and easy
WhatCulture Gaming already did a few videos about genius anti-piracy measures in games, like the invicible red scorpion thing in Serious Sam 3 or that you can't run in Mirror's Edge, so here's an idea for another list: 10 anti-piracy/DRM measures that didn't stop any piracy but were actually a problem for people who actually bought the game
there's also golden sun and it's sequel, the lost age where there are cursed pieces of gear that are very powerful, but has a chance (based on luck stat) to do nothing on your turn, but with a cleric ring, you can equip all cursed items on one character and make them as strong as end game geared characters
Love that I always remember givivg Isaac's buddy all cursed gear my other favorite thing to do in Golden Sun: The Lost Age if you do certain secret objectives in the first game in the second game you wind up getting golden armor pieces that are pretty good but only stat wise they don't really do anything special at least not that I was aware of at the time of playing
How about bosses and enemies that the game guilts you for killing. Crossbreed Priscilla from Dark Souls falls into that. Feared by the gods, she's forced to live in a painted world. Upon meeting her, she politely shows you the way out. But if you want the platinum, you have to cut off her tail to get her dagger, which involves having to attack and kill her.

It means you never worry about diseases ever again. The downside of no sleep benefit for XP? Not that big a deal, especially if you consider Skyrim is the first Elder Scrolls game that has this.

Here is a video game curse that I want... Vampire Lord from Elder Scrolls V. How about you do a video on Cursed Weapons in Video Games that you would want? (The Ebony Blade from Skyrim should be on the Cursed Weapon list as one that you want, as it gets stronger when you slay your allies)
#1 was exactly what I was thinking of. And it's not like they force you to just... be in that form with all its temporary downsides until you regain your normal form (a la Twilight Princess)! You get to choose when to take that form (to some extent; two can't even be activated except on specific panels)!
Another example of a good curse is in Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy(a game I recommend). When you're fighting the Geb Queen, she sends out magical pulses that turn you into a frog. But, it turns out that this is a good thing. Sphinx can then hop up to where he couldn't hop up to before, release a couple of spiders from their cages, and hop back down. These spiders then attack the queen, temporarily shutting down her forcefield. Then when the curse ends and you're back to being Sphinx again, you can walk up to her and give her a boop on the snoot with your sword.
The imp/Kappa curse in Final Fantasy VI. Normally it reduces your attack to zero and cripples your defense, but if you find the imp equipment pieces you can become nearly invincible. Surprised that one wasn't mentioned.
My first thought was the mushroom curse in Earthbound. Flips the controls occasionally, but you can always sell the mushroom to get cured and get paid!
Missing No is more of a curse that is a bit of a novelty than one you actually want, for while the multiplying of items can be nice it is one that can crash your game, possibly permanently. Even more so, some effects from the glitch effect from MissingNo can :if I recall correctly) cause some of your Pokemon to become banned from competitive play even if you trade them to other games. Now that's less of an issue today as it's impossible to trade from the oldest games to the more current ones, but for a number of us that was a rough wake-up call. One "curse" that really was all benefits and nothing that made us wish we'd stayed clear was the Pokérus. This curse, or virus, is randomly diagnosed by Nurse Joy and is highly contagious: any Pokemon that interact with the infected one, whether through battles or trades, also become infected. What makes this not only desirable but also highly sought after is that any Effort Value points (or EVs) that your Pokemon gains in battle are doubled, effectively cutting your need to grind for those hidden stat boosters in half. Even after the infectious period of 1-3 days is over and your Pokemon is "cured" the ability to gain double EVs remains, making it one of your most valuable Pokemon in your party. Best of all this will not make your game crash nor your Pokemon ineligible for competition, making this one "infection party" that you actually want to attend.

Spiderman Web of Shadows was like this for me 💀😂 I got the bad ending without knowing that was a thing as a kid, and just thought I got the good ending considering I got to keep the black suit and rule over NYC with Black Cat and an army of symbiotes 🤷♂️ seemed perfect to me 😂
Fast-forward to Skyrim, and you've got a choice of vampirism or lycanthropy. Plus, there's an ability to summon wearbears in the Dragonborn DLC. I know some people love their vampires, but I've always been a werewolf fan, and really have a lot of fun with it. The upsides include the wereform being able to brutally slaughter whatever you're attacking, 100% immunity to diseases, A whole new series of perks via Dawguard DLC, and access to not only Hircine's ring, but also some other rings from a group of werewolves in Dregonborn DLC, and you get welcomed into the Circle by the Companions. The downsides? You don't regenerate health in werewolf form, and you can never get the "restful sleep" bonus from sleeping. I don't really know all the ups and downs of vampirism, cause Harkon dies screaming in each of my playthoughs.
Being a Lycanthrope in any of the Elder Scrolls games is pretty fun. Except for Morrowind where you transform *every* night. But in Skyrim, the only drawback to Lycanthropy is just insomnia which doesn't really impact the gameplay at all
At least Jules had an actual beverage in his cup, not like the fake coffee you see in nearly every tv show 😆 And I remember Missingno from the Gen 1 Pokémon, although on my old red cartridge I found a glitch mon called m with a blur (some people called it m block) Don't ever catch those though, cuz I saw a friend catch one and then the next time he tried surfing on cinnabar Island he ran into Blaine that had a full lv 100 team
No mention of how Dawnguard made Skyrim vampirism op as it took away people attacking you, the sun never damaged you to begin with, gave you a bow to block out the sun, and gave you blood potions so you don't even need the bow, and also gave you a behemoth of a transformation that can destroy enemies.
I captured missingo, used a rare candy and it evolved into a snorlax that u could level to lv 255, throw in as much x-accuracy, health, pp ect. And u had an unbeatable pokemon with so much health it spanned across the screen several times
Missing No wasn't worth it, because if you did catch it there was a chance (I forget how big of a chance it was don't @ me) that it would corrupt your save file and thus destroy any and all work you'd done until that point.
Daggerfall Lycanthropy sounds like less of a problem and more one of the dev's easy modes. Even better than Skyrim's, which is more or less par for the course of any playthrough unless you're bound and determined to lose multiple lbs of encumbrance to cure disease potions or want to play a Vampire. Surprised vampirism hasn't received the same level of OP love.
So, I'm curious where you got some of this info from. I've never heard or seen anything about Nero's arm speaking/whispering to him, nor have I heard about the chest demons being old heroes in Paper Mario TYD
What about the "frenzy virus" from Monster Hunter it seems like all your stats and stuff are reduced at first but if you attack enough which is your best bet it turns into a buff and give you a stronger resistance against catching frenzy again
What about the cursed shield in bravely second? Sure you can't dodge but it has great defense and winning 200 battles with it turns into the second best shield (stat wise) in the game, the best part of this is that you can actually buy many of these and equip it to your entire party
Great video Jules! And hope James gets a break. Anyway, how about characters/skills/equipment that were difficult to train/invest in/power up, but were well worth the effort. (IE: Nino from Fire Emblem 7. She would be recruited very late at a very low level, but she could become one of the best Mage/Sage class in the game).
There was also pokemon above level 100 in the same area as missingno. I caught and leveled up a snorlax and it reverted to level 100 with an unknown amount of hp. I say unknown because while it said a normal number at first, upon using a max potion, I sat for an hour as it's hp bar filled up continuously

I know it's less popular now than back then, and even then it was not all that popular anyways, but you ignored the Tales of Symphonia "Cursed Arms" series. Sure, they had 0 ATK stat, so they hit like a wet paper towel at the start, but, after you finished their associated quest, they gained an "invisible" ATK stat every time you killed anything. So, you could just pop up back to the starting area, grind some starter scrubs for a little while and soon enough you'd have a weapon that did absolutely riddiculous amounts of damage while, officially, having 0 ATK Stat.

Talion's curse in the shadow of war/mordor games. I played the first Mario game for about a few minutes....never touch another one after thst...not even once. They are nothing more than childish crappy retakes on Super Mario RPG legend of the Seven Stars.... no one asked for a Paper Mario we asked for a remake of Super Mario RPG and their response was Paper Mario.... and then when we asked for it again what did we get a sequel to that one-dimensional garbage Paper Mario... and from what I've heard and watched as far as ratings are concerned there's really only two of those Paper Mario games that are decent out of the whole bunch.
A better Pokemon entry than Missingno. would be the Pokerus. It's a harmless disease that gives the afflicted Pokemon double EV values. Sure, a disease isn't necessarily a curse, but it fits better on this list than Missingno..
I refuse to believe he uses that bike. It's mounted in the tiniest room on a wall and also in that same room is his PC set up. Not to mention there're obstacles on the floor directly underneath said bike. There's no way he's taking that down without stumbling, tripping, and or dropping his bike which bounces briefly before propelling itself into his PC desk.
With a missing no glitch so we're also Pokemon above level 100 you could catch and if you fed them rare candy you could get them to level 200 and something before they glitch back the level one hundred any XP they got though would bring them back to level 100

Several of the transformations in Wildermyth fit this... as some of them are meant as blessings but others are meant as curses... there's also the Shadow transformation which sees your character reach an understanding with a spirit that has tried to possess them.

I captured missingo, used a rare candy and it evolved into a snorlax that u could level to lv 255, throw in as much x-accuracy, health, pp ect. And u had an unbeatable pokemon with so much health it spanned across the screen several times
Missing No wasn't worth it, because if you did catch it there was a chance (I forget how big of a chance it was don't @ me) that it would corrupt your save file and thus destroy any and all work you'd done until that point.
Daggerfall Lycanthropy sounds like less of a problem and more one of the dev's easy modes. Even better than Skyrim's, which is more or less par for the course of any playthrough unless you're bound and determined to lose multiple lbs of encumbrance to cure disease potions or want to play a Vampire. Surprised vampirism hasn't received the same level of OP love.
Also, I don't think a Skyrim werewolf can ride a horse.

What about the "frenzy virus" from Monster Hunter it seems like all your stats and stuff are reduced at first but if you attack enough which is your best bet it turns into a buff and give you a stronger resistance against catching frenzy again

What about the cursed shield in bravely second? Sure you can't dodge but it has great defense and winning 200 battles with it turns into the second best shield (stat wise) in the game, the best part of this is that you can actually buy many of these and equip it to your entire party
so they put the Cursed Shield from FFVI in Bravely Second?

Anyway, how about characters/skills/equipment that were difficult to train/invest in/power up, but were well worth the effort.
(IE: Nino from Fire Emblem 7. She would be recruited very late at a very low level, but she could become one of the best Mage/Sage class in the game).
There was also pokemon above level 100 in the same area as missingno. I caught and leveled up a snorlax and it reverted to level 100 with an unknown amount of hp. I say unknown because while it said a normal number at first, upon using a max potion, I sat for an hour as it's hp bar filled up continuously

I know it's less popular now than back then, and even then it was not all that popular anyways, but you ignored the Tales of Symphonia "Cursed Arms" series.
Sure, they had 0 ATK stat, so they hit like a wet paper towel at the start, but, after you finished their associated quest, they gained an "invisible" ATK stat every time you killed anything. So, you could just pop up back to the starting area, grind some starter scrubs for a little while and soon enough you'd have a weapon that did absolutely riddiculous amounts of damage while, officially, having 0 ATK Stat.

With a missing no glitch so we're also Pokemon above level 100 you could catch and if you fed them rare candy you could get them to level 200 and something before they glitch back the level one hundred any XP they got though would bring them back to level 100

Several of the transformations in Wildermyth fit this... as some of them are meant as blessings but others are meant as curses... there's also the Shadow transformation which sees your character reach an understanding with a spirit that has tried to possess them.
