@@megatronjenkins2473 anime games do get mentioned sometimes.....wait, when was the last time a DBZ game got mentioned 🤔 Probably when Jump Force was last mentioned lmao
Hey Jules, regarding your opening shin splint issue: first off, as someone who has done the NYC marathon three times I deeply sympathize. It comes from doing too much, too fast. Alternate your running with cycling, swimming or yoga. Maybe some strength training by mid that’s your jam. And do take a rest day at least once a week. Few of us can keep the Cam Hanes momentum going. Good luck, you legend.
Just full disclosure I workout a lot, but I do not run. That being said, a "fan bike" also known as an "assault bike" and the rower (I suggest a concept 2 rower ) are both great cardio options that are low impact, track calories a bit better than something like an elliptical (which can grossly over estimate your calorie burn), and get some upper body engagement. I hope that helps.
Jules, I'm not a physio... but my family runs a fitness gym. My brother is a crossfit instructor, while I'm a power lifter. If you feel you are fragile in certain aspects, I dont recommend cardio(!!aerobics) or HIIT. Yes, HIIT where functionality and results are concerned - but what you want is to build mass (create a coat of armor so to speak) around your problem area - is it a joint? bone problem? do you have muscle tears somewhere? or an injury? I suggest looking into strength training(!!anaerobics) - and have a decent instructor and nutritionist so you can hopefully build some muscle at a safe pace and intensity around the areas that u want to deal with.
Just giving an emotional hug to Jules for the fact that we're getting older and our bodies seem to want to kill us lately. You have my sympathies. I know that feel.
Hey brother. Im a paralympic wheelchair rugby player in Canada and my wife is in school to be an athletic therapist. She recommended 1. Stationary bike. 2. Rowing machine 3. Elliptical 4. Treadmill is less impact Hope you feel better.
Former shin splint patient here, my physio recommended I switch from running to rowing to reduce the load on my legs while maintaining the same intensity and workout duration. It's been working well for 3+ years now and I haven't suffered any ill effects. Plus I can row at home on rainy days with my machine so that is a plus 👍
So not a health professional but I've been working out for well over a decade for losing weight to building muscle. And I also hate running. That said if you have access to a gym (or kayak) rowing is an amazing cardio workout and it also works shoulders/arms and legs. If rowing isn't your style or you can't gym then there's martial arts (both at home or at a studio) which is pretty much all cardio work, though you might run some depending on your style/teacher. I'm sure there is more but those are just a few of my favorites, good luck on the work out journey!
hey jules, former personal trainer and mma fighter here, i would highly encourage swimming as a cardio exercise. the water really takes stress away from your joints, and the movements for swimming engage just about every muscle group while also increasing your heart rate for a great cardio feel
In answer to your exercise related question Jules, I personally alternate my routine with swimming and biking, with running, and with my running I start off at a walk and go a distance before building up to a jog and then run awhile before alternating. And most of all I keep in mind something a marathon running friend of mine told me ages ago, take some downtime to let your body recover and build up, I do three on one off, or two if my body is saying nope.
Hey Jules if you're looking for cardio that isn't running, I recommend HIIT (High intensity interval training) I recommend the battle rope, you hold each end of a big heavy rope at each end and shake the crap out of it as hard as you can for as long as you can.
I am 30 now, and I wasn't aware of Goosebumps' existence until very recently. That said, the concept of a sponge that would bite my hand when I try to do the dishes (an activity I do not enjoy on a good day), is utterly terrifying 😱
My podiatrist dad has people with shin splints wear knee high compression stockings for a few weeks. Shin splints come from the tissue being pulled away from the bone so you need to firmly hold everything in place for it to heal. Been using this technique for decades and it almost always works if you’re consistent with it.
The Beneviento estate was the scariest part of RE8. I wasn't expecting them to go full psychological horror and they did it to great effect. It establishes a sense of dread that slowly escalates; by the time an actual threat shows up I'm already freaked out.
This was such a incredible suggestion. I love areas in real life or in gaming or in whatever else that are beautiful and creepy at the same time. Like the woods at night where you see the stars but those woods never fail to be creepy at night.
If you are serious about training advice, I freeclimb and play drums, as well as lift weights at home. I also hate running. And I have had back injuries which left me unable to walk as well as surgeries which also left me unable to walk (and eat and lift anything and move in general). The first time I went to treatment I was told they had never had a patient with such extensive injuries and they could not promise me I would regain full control of my body. And today I am (for the third time) fully mobile and stronger than the average person. So yes with proper willpower it is possible to do good workout without running :D
As many have said, swimming, Jules. I used to run, but the hills and cobblestones of my city killed my calves and I tried swimming. It's changed my life and I don't know if I'd go back to running ever again.
Regarding Goosebumps: Some of them were pretty creepy concepts. The Haunted Mask, The Barking Ghost and The Werewolf Of Fever Swamp were all pretty well conceptually teen Horror narratives. As for It Came From Beneath The Sink , it may sound like a schlocky B-Movie idea, but at least the TV adaptation acted as the debut for Katherine Isabelle, one of Canada’s premier scream queens who would go on to star in the likes of Ginger Snaps and American Mary.
One more for me would have been Claptrap's mind. From Borderlands: The Pre-sequel's DLC Clapstastic Voyage. A beautiful landscape filled with Claptrap's viruses and other madnesses going on inside the little funny robot's mind ready to kill you at any given moment.

Rowing, jump rope, biking all great cardio that aren't running. I can't stand running and cardio in my workout, just not what I enjoy, but I love biking even on a stationary. Hope that helps Jules.
Siofra River from Elden Ring definitely fits here with the underground stars and beautiful ruins on one hand and those horrible archers, crabs and electric thingies on the other. Also there's Leyndell with beautiful architecture and the awful, awful sewer prison filled with omens. And many, many locations from Shadow of the Erdtree, like the Cerulean Coast filled with both beautiful fields of blue flowers and the undead waiting to skin the player alive.
Boss Battles that completely changed the formula I suggest King Thwomp from The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. That battle is basically a game of roulette, but not a poorly implemented one imo
I'm going to keep posting this idea cause it's great: "Products in video games we wish would be released in real life". May I suggest the Tonberry humidifier from FF7 Rebirth.
Go out swimming for half an hour to an hour instead Jules, swimming is way better exercise for your overall body, and it isn’t as impactful for the ligaments, and joints in your legs. After all, when you’re running, they’ll get a punch each time you hit the ground you’re running on, and with swimming there isn’t any pushback like this. Hope you’ll give it a try and enjoy the alternative!
swimming! it's better than running in most ways for us older, broken folk. just don't go too hard, esp. at first, and remember to change up your style regularly to avoid repetitive stress injuries.
Biking my dude. Biking is probably the best cardio workout. You don't even have to do intensive uphill biking, just bike around town, run your errands, etc.

Do anything you would for running but choose a different price of cardio equipment (rower, Skii erg, elliptical, static bike, cycling, swimming). OR If you wanna run - strength train your tibialis anterior and calves (follow the knees over toes guy)
Hi Jools, It is surprising this isn't spoken of more. I played different sports have done coaching. I do have a reasonable idea of fitness & injuries. If you're road running, the constant pounding suits it as a description, because of the repetitiveness, causes wear and tear, and a real grind on the knees, also the ankles.
Swimming Eggy, swimming. I weigh 220 pounds (used to weigh 310 pounds) and has osteoporosis, I was resigned to live as a marshmallow but then a friend suggested swimming. I now look at least passable as a human being and not just a bag of grease with nubby limbs.

Jules, it sounds to me like you might be over training yourself. Doing too much exercise can injure you and, especially if you weren't much of a jogger/runner before, going straight to 5K a day is the definition of over training. You need to either lower the duration of your runs, give your body a day off to rest and recover, or add potassium to your diet as more potassium helps avoid muscle injuries from cardio. Just changing to a different form of exercise won't stop your body from breaking if your body is breaking because you're just pushing it too hard for where you're at right now.
