If you get the chance...GO! Breathtaking scenery, all the Canadian guides I met/fished with were really friendly,as were the general fishing guys we met on the bank. They are certainly into their fishing. And some of the action can be superb.Sturgeon,Salmon, and out at sea,the Halibut. All serious string pullers. I've got one more "vintage" B.C. film left that we are trying to salvage.

That name rings a bell.I think we were due an overnight cabin stop up there but it got cancelled for some reason. I fished the junction at Weaver creek and the Harrison for Salmon on fly.Film going up in about a week .But the best scenery was on the river that I think came out of Chilliwack lack.About middle section.Fast, but a photographer's dream. Can't remember the name.Got springs to about 18lbs I think, but it was the amazing setting that made the trip really.

Dolly Varden are actually a strain of char, along with Bull Trout.

I think the guide says in the film about 25 or 30lbs ? Huge fish. Bigger than I expected them to grow.

Get over here and give it a shot! The Pink Salmon are running this year, easy 50 fish days with each fish being over 4 pounds.

I live in British Columbia. Fished all my life here. Never knew how Dolly Varden got it's name! That is so cool!

    Great video Graeme!
Nice to see some old footage and what a great setting too! Fishing in British Columbia is certainly on my to do list before i get too old! Ive been fishing for over 30 years now and mainly like pike on rivers and Barbel on the river kennet (Old mill). I watch all the videos and enjoy them all. Please keep them coming and keep up the good work!!! Bren.

Film going up in the next week I think.Got a load on the trout fly rod. Last time I was there I was lucky and they were running really well.Weather was great as well.Which helps.

Bang on.They seem to be a cross or something between the Bull trout and a char. Check out our giant char film, although bred in the UK the markings look very much the same.

The pinks are moving in and the Sturgeon are putting on the feed bag right now, those were some nice Dollies

I remember now, it was the Vedder river.Runs right past an eatery on the edge of Chilliwack that had a photo in black & white of a 900lb plus White sturgeon !!

Didn't go there with Fred, it was Len, who all in our group thought was the "main man" for sturgeon. We used to go about 3rd week in September for the Sturgeon, the D.V.'s were a good sideline trip.

Great video, I live in the lower mainland 1hr away from this lake and I used to camp and fish it and caught many nice dollies and kokanee's one of the best tasting fish out there. Reason being is because they are a landlocked sockeye.

FYI, what you are catching in the video are in fact bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus), which look almost identical to dolly varden (Salvelinus malma). Bull Trout's range covers most of interior British Columbia and part of the coastal watersheds. Dolly varden's range mainly covers the coast of British Columbia. In Coastal British Columbia, the two species' ranges overlap but majority of the fish found in the Lower Fraser watershed (coming from the main tributaries, Pitt, Chilliwack and Harrison Rivers) are bull trout, based on DNA sampling. Most of the dolly varden are in fact found on Vancouver Island, and they are much smaller than bull trout.

When they were first named, both species were known as Dolly Varden, so a bit of a moot point for a film of this vintage. I'll bet the local guide still knew them as Dollies for years after the reclassification. Hard to tell from this film which species was caught.

few lakes up around logan lake where i live have lots of dolly varden bull trout and ranbows. 2 species of rainbows around here tho. fraser valley blackwaters get huge in these lakes as do the dollies and bulls. fraser valley blackwaters are a little different from the kamloops rainbow native to the area. less spotting and they tend to dive when they fight where the kamloops rainbows jump like crazy.

Geez I'm lucky to have the biggest Pink Salmon right at my door step, Snohomish river system humpies run 6 pounds while everywhere else they run 4-5 pounds.
