Yeah, flossing is almost unavoidable when you are casting through a bulk of fish with a high percentage of males with kypes. That's why we fished on the edge of the main concentration to get better hook-ups. Plus I had less chance of getting a lure through my ear as well !!
@ultimatezombiekiller you're wrong sea trout and atlantic salmon are completely different fish, trust me I fish for both in Ireland they just look similar
um @ultimatezombiekiller, being a Washington native, you don't know your salmon. Steelhead are in fact a sea run Rainbow, the real salmon are the Chum, kings, humpies, silvers, and sockeyes.
Cant speak for others but bait caster setups are popular in the states/canada mostly due to line capacity + no line twist aswell as a few other minor reasons. Not to say anything is wrong with a spinning setup as it has its place aswell. Spinner setups are more popular with the steelhead/salmon fishermen running float setups as they are easier to mend the line with.
Great episode but depressing to see how good the fishing was before the stocks collapsed, I'm sure it won't be long before people are ranting on about flossing as well... On a lighter note; what do you think of creating an episode/segment of footage sent in by viewers?
i salmon fish in new zealand for chinook... i use a zed spinner or a tyser, depends on the current... depends if im fishing at the mouth of the river or further up.
atlantic salmon are not true salmon but a sea run trout. steelhead are not sea run rainbows are they were once thought to be, are now classified as a pacific salmon
