I was coming here to mention his amazing energy, on screen and off! I have worked for (literal) sociopaths exactly like Milchick. It's obvious Mr. Tillman has too.
'Thanks Mrs Cobel' and 'Shes Alive!' never have 2 lines of dialogue got to me as much as in this finale. It was a perfect first season and I cannot wait to see what's next.
When Innie Mark was activated, my only thought was “don’t call her Cobel, don’t call her Cobel” and when he did I yelled at the screen. This episode was so suspenseful. Nothing I’ve ever seen before
I know lol when his voice came up in this video I instinctually was like “oh no its milchick” and had to remind myself the actor is not actually a scary boss from middle management
It's crazy how different he is in that role compared to how he is IRL. And it's not like he plays some super quirky character as Milchick. Dude just knows how to play these unique nuances so well to create a different character. I can't wait to see him in more.
I've never had such a physical reaction to a cliffhanger in a show, just full-body chills the moment marc screamed and the screen cut to black. I'm so glad it's been renewed, looking forward to more questions and answers. brilliant work all round
A gem is right it’s by chance I came up on it. Do you know of any other gems out there doesn’t have to be made this year And it could be a movie or a series I don’t care
I agree. I was lucky to stumble across the teaser trailer before the show started but almost everyone I knew never heard of it until well after Season 1 was over. The cinematography of the teaser itself was so compelling I had to watch.
I only knew because I had a free subscription to Apple TV. I don’t get on Apple TV often to see if they have any originals I would be interested in. But I had finished another Apple series and Severance came up. This show is awesome.
Finally we’re getting more content from this spectacular tv show from the hand of the people involved in it. Can’t wait for season 2. This has been one of the greatest thing on TV in a long time.
Agreed. With streaming services overflowing to the brim with content these days, this has been a standout for me from the last few years. Love how original the concept is and I LOVE the aesthetic/tone that goes with it. So well done, can’t wait for more!
@@andreserickson6963 And of course, the acting was so great. Everybody was on the exact same page as far as the tone and realism and all of their motivations made sense, even though there were so many complexities.
The crescendo leading up to “she’s alive!”and the delivery of it by Adam Scott was one of the most intense scenes I’ve ever seen. If you don’t feel something when that happens you’re not human.
It hits so hard. Innie Mark doesn’t know her as his wife, he only just found out he had a wife and a sister, was hardly considered human or showed much emotion or depth and the look in his eyes when he sees that picture and running to his sister, calling her name and screaming from the depths of his innie self knowing he doesn’t have much time left. Gives me goose bumps and brings tears to my eyes, ugh. Amazing work from all involved, I can’t get enough.
It was a moment of "OH MY FUCKING GOD HE NEEDA TO GET THERE HE NEEDS TO TELL THEM JESUS FUCKING CRHIST GET THERE RIGHT FUCKING NOW!" And then he got there and screamed it out. And the catharsis was so great. It hurt but was exactly what you needed.
Before the pandemic, I use to work in Bell Works in Holmdel NJ, where they filmed the show. My office mates and I actually met Ben Stiller when he was there scouting locations for the show, which was crazy because for us, it was suppose to be a normal work day and then boom… there’s Ben Stiller walking around lol. The building is somewhat creepy, but also super lively and pretty cool in real life! It has great Christmas parties and farmers markets every Wednesday LOL. It made watching the show even cooler having worked there myself.
Tramell and Patricia incompass everything scary about corporate managers they played their role so so well. If you've ever worked in the corporate world you've got to have met a milshick at some point you know that one manager who goes from the sweetest smile to a dead serious look in a second depending on what they want to get from you, it gives me PTSD just thinking about it.
exactly, that one manager so deeply dedicated to their job you wonder what supernatural hold it has on them. i love that scarily grounding aspect of this show, that you can see these ridiculous and exaggerated things and recognize their origins in our american office culture.
That season finale was the only TV show I have ever watched 2x in a row. It was incredible, and the whole season was building to it. Every scene in the entire season was a puzzle piece to figure out if you watched closely, and the finale gave so many satisfying answers yet kept the mystery going. Perfection.
Answers? I disagree and even the actors disagree too. Practically nothing was revealed and it was just dragged out yet again. Now we have to wait a whole year to get even the slightest tidbit of an answer
Mark's actor describing his visceral reaction to Mark saying "Thanks Ms. Cobel." Is very cathartic. Knowing others had the same reaction. Even the actor himself.
The scene where he's taping Gemma's photo back together is such a cannon event for me. And they ended episode 7 with that revelation bro my jaw dropped so hard. I want to erase this show from my memory so I can watch it again for the first time.
I remember I was constantly checking how many minutes were left in the finale and one thing I loved is how we see through the perspectives of Helly, Irving and Mark so we discover the outside as they do. Also the score really adds to it, it’s one thing when a show has captivating writing but another when it has a compelling soundtrack, truly a mind-blowing show or should I say *mind-severing* ?
I'm not exaggerating when I say that Season 1, Episode 9 of Severance is in the top 5 moments of any TV show that I have ever witnessed, ever. So perfectly executed, and a perfect culmination and payoff of everything that came before it! I hope Season 2 also gives us that feeling of always wanting more.
I agree with Adam, because I loved how subtle the scene between Marc and Cobel was when she realized he was his innie. I literally jumped out of my sofa when Marc said “Thanks, Ms Cobel ”! Very good writing!
Wish i hadn't stumbled upon Severance until its completion, but what a great cast of characters. Actors can act, but i don't think any actor could have played Milchick better than Tillman. So intimidating, but with a smile.
They were building it up like helly wasnt going to get to speak, or like mark was going to find out Ms Casey was Gemma but not be able to tell anyone, and when they actually did manage to say whay they needed to say to blow the plot up before they get unplugged, i was floored. Couldn't believe they pulled it off. I'm absolutely thrilled to see where this goes.
For sure. Will need a refresher to get all excited before season two airs. Hope we don’t have to wait two years for this one. I already wanna know so badly what comes next.
Ben Stiller should give himself (and the team) more credit! It was amazing! I just hope they know where they're going with it. "Lost" was amazing for about the first 2 seasons, packing mystery upon mystery in each episode, making you want more. But the writers themselves didn't know the answers. I REALLY hope they have some legit ideas... I'd be fine if the whole story of Lumon was solved in just three seasons, just as long as it continues to be just as intriguing as Season 1. I know they shot most of this during Covid but honestly I think it only helped. I hope they maintain that creepy empty feeling with very few characters in one scene at a time.
If it makes you feel any better, the writer/creator said he’s specifically trying to avoid those pitfalls. He has a general arc planned out, and says it could be done in 3 seasons or 6
Hopefully it doesnt go full Westworld on us and deliver a masterpiece first season and then just totally crash and burn under the pressure of trying to live up to the first.
This show was definitely a lesson in excellence. Everything, every aspect of it was done amazingly. I so can't wait for the next season, can't come soon enough.
Amazing show! Binge watched the entire season and felt like I was watching a super extended movie. I love how patient it was. The directors let the camera and the actors take their time, sometimes painfully so. The first episode was so discordant in a way that TV is rarely willing to do. And over an entire season built the tension continuously. I think that's why the last episode worked so well. So much tension had been created that *finally* let loose into panic, an actual outlet for the tension, that even though it was the ultimate cliffhanger, it still had the sense of fulfillment. Just lovely. And special shout out to the cinematographer and composer. Utter art.
One of the ways I judge the success of any tv show or movie is how often I find myself thinking about it in the days, weeks, and months after I watch it. This show won’t go away. I just rewatched the entire season and it still felt fresh. Props to everyone involved. I have also learned that I am a huge fan of Ben Stiller’s more serious work with this show and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty being up near the top of my favorites list. Season 2 can’t come soon enough!
I think it's possible. Have you seen Apple's The Morning Show series? It has 2 seasons, and idk if it's bc I watched the 2nd season first, but I actually liked the 2nd season more and can't wait until it starts again in Sept. I don't think it's bc I watched the 2nd season first, tho - s2 had more things going on and plot twists, so it's def highly possible for them to make 2 even better.
The scene where they cross paths in the tight corridor (toward the break room I think it is?) and she locks eyes with Mark a second longer than he does with her was so foreboding in a way that I couldn't tell at all of course. But something beneath this scene simmered and I think deep down we as the audience feel like something is staring us right in the face, we just can't possibly tell in this moment.
I just finished watching the season an hour ago & I’m desperately searching the internet for tiny morsels to just try & extend the moment. This show is enthralling & consuming. I need more. This next season will be the one I’m most excited to have come out, more than The Newsroom, Silo & more than Stranger Things.
The finale was so incredible, and yet there's still so much we don't know: - What do Lumon employees actually do? - Who is The Board? - What's the deal with the Eagans and "rotating"? - What's gonna happen with that resistance woman who re-integrated Petey? - WHAT NOW??
How many more employees are there? Why did the two departments fight each other? How did Mark’s wife end up working for Lumon? Is she in a coma or did they traffick her from the hospital, or did they make up the whole accident story entirely?
I'm glad Adam Scott has finally got something that's 'his' as a lead actor, supported by an amazing ensemble. He's a fantastic actor. Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson have come up with a masterpiece of modern storytelling. Amazing. Roll on the next season!
I just have to say that the guy who plays Milcheck has pulled off a miracle of acting. Even though we're not sure who he really is, he can be a GREAT villian, a completely sympathetic true believer or a double agent and he remains totally likeable in all those scenarios! How he turns on a dime in that office disco scene is absolutely amazing!
This actor’s charisma is so impressively used in his acting. The writing in the show also makes him and everyone seem like a full fledged character. I find myself so intrigued and committed to their stories
Tramell Tillman is a PHENOMENAL actor. such a complex, dynamic and creepy character it's pulled of perfectly by him. If there was an actor in this series I could never think of out of the show it would be him.
As someone who binged the entire season in one day (during my first time watching it) I was so tired by the time I got to the last few episodes but I had to keep going because every episode was a cliffhanger and I HAD to know what happened next. So there I was, at around 1:30 AM, watching the final episode. When it ended on another cliffhanger, I literally yelled out loud “what the f***!!!” Lol. Looking forward to next season
I cannot tell you how uneasy I have felt ever since watching the finale and not being able to see what happens next. I AM ILL. never in my life has a show affected me both mentally and physically. I am eagerly awaiting the next season
Binge watched this show this weekend and so glad I did. Have seen it on my Apple TV menu for months and didn’t think I’d like it…but wow. Probably one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait for season two. The transitions in episode nine were perfect and when helly was in the bathroom reciting that apology she memorized from the break room….man that was some powerful stuff right there. Definitely great that you guys decided to add that in. This is such a creative show and how you guys all put it together is amazing. Brilliant!!! No wonder it has a bunch of award nominations.
just watched this show and it's absolutely phonominal. cinematography, cast, acting, setting, visuals etc, EVERYTHING in this is just *chefs kiss*. can't wait for season 2.
One of the best episodes of TV I’ve watched. It really felt like one long scene, the direction, cinematography and editing (often overlooked) came together so perfectly to draw out the tension for the whole episode.
This show gave me all the elements I missed from cancelled shows I loved like Sense 8, The OA, but also psychological thriller elements from films like Get Out, The Matrix, Hereditary, The Belko experiment, Inception etc. It was a slow burn for me to get through the first three episodes BUT once I began episode 3 I was hooked. I finished in two days now I’m waiting on season 2. 😢
No when he said Ms. Cobel I thought I was going to have a a heart attack !! I loved this shoooooow, Season 2 helllooooo 😭. Helly being an Eagan was WILD because she absolutely hated the job so much, I just did not see that coming.
It is a pretty good idea for the series! The set of scenes is athmospherely, filming (operator), actors are genious! I've never thought Ben Stiler can do such serious and deep minding serial! Looking forward to see further series. Great job!
The finale was just so perfect. The whole time I was worried it was about to end with a feeling of defeat as they never actually get to say anything, but then they didn’t do that to us thank goodness and that last minute or so was just insane
I just finished episode 9 and wow, I have not been this satisfied of a first season finale of a show since the season one finale of LOST. One of the greatest single episodes of any TV show regardless of episode number.
How did you find out about the show because I had to go through so much garbage before I came up on severance it was all by chance When you say it is underrated do you mean by the critics or by the Ratings
I actively avoided watching this show because I thought it must be terrible since it wasn't all over my social media. Ran out of tvshows to watch today, so I decided to give 'Severance' a chance. Man I'm so glad I did!
I don’t think I’ve been this impressed with a show since Breaking Bad first came out. The writing, acting, score, pacing, beautiful cinematography, keeping the viewer on the edge of their seat, just really impressed. And Helly being an Egan, wow, great twist!!! I am looking forward to Season 2.
Great series, fantastic finale. I've never watched a show that built SO well and SO interestingly to a finale, and then 100% delivers in such a pulse-raising, satisfying finale, while stil leaving you DYING to see what happens next. Watching it as the episodes came out was great - a show like this benefits ffrom having a week between episodes so you can digest everything, watch it again and see if there was anything you missed, any symbols in the background that might hint about what's going on... It's been ages since I watched it and I can't wait for the next season. Well done to everyone involved, exemplary work by literally every single cast and crew member. Best season of television in a long, long time.
I was genuinely sweating profusely during the finale episode. It was that stressful. 😂 Phenomenal writing, the tone of the show, everything, it blew me away. Cannot wait for season 2.
This is truly one of the greatest shows of the decade, and the cast and crew should be immensely proud of what they have created here. I haven’t been so enthralled with a show in a while.
Man this show is so good, its pretty much why I subscribed to Apple TV+. Can’t wait for season 2. thank you for this @Ben stiller and his team, absolute legends. ❤
Honestly, Severance is probably the best suspense/ thriller TV show I’ve seen. I’ve never waited, investigated, and researched about a shows upcoming season before. EVERYTHING BEAUTIFULLY DONE! Writing (show concept), shooting, acting. Everyone from season 1 needs to remain till shows end. Ben Stiller U stuck gold my friend. Who-so-ever is pissed at who-so-ever else needs to get resolved, lock’em up in a room with a 1/2 lb. of a good strain and let’em HASH it out (pun intended). Severance hit the TV holy trinity, and I was so disappointed at the lack of awards and interest season 1 received 🤬and how much Ted Lasso won and got🤯! Apple TV has a slew of great original shows!

the gemma reveal was insane, i never saw it coming and was completely shocked. i absolutely love this show. so excited for season 2!!
The finale was so incredible, and yet there's still so much we don't know:
- What do Lumon employees actually do?
- Who is The Board?
- What's the deal with the Eagans and "rotating"?
- What's gonna happen with that resistance woman who re-integrated Petey?
- WHAT NOW??
the goats too lmao
The resistance might include Mrs Corbel
How many more employees are there? Why did the two departments fight each other? How did Mark’s wife end up working for Lumon? Is she in a coma or did they traffick her from the hospital, or did they make up the whole accident story entirely?
I believe the board is all the former Eagen CEO's and the current CEO is chipped with their consciousness's 👀
Why Helena as an Eagan had to be severed?
A year after watching this I can say this is my favorite show ever, hope season 2 is as good as the first one
This is by far one of the best shows in a very long time - truly amazing work. Currently rewatching it.
Trammell is so charming, yet Milchick is so creepy 😭
What a show!! 👏
This show is incredible and I am SO excited for Season 2.
Tramell Tillman is a PHENOMENAL actor. such a complex, dynamic and creepy character it's pulled of perfectly by him. If there was an actor in this series I could never think of out of the show it would be him.
Shoutout to the cinematography on this show. The way that the camera is used to make spaces feel so unsettling is unmatched.
0:10 I had the exact same reaction, minus the script.
I kept yelling, "TELL HIM YOU WANT THE COFFEE COZIES!!! BUY SOME TIME!!!!" Man, that was a stressful finale! ;'D
So many absolutely jaw dropping, gut wrenching moments in this show and each more special and impactful than the last
this show is what perfection means. Adam Scott did an incredible job
Such an amazing cliffhanger. I absolutely can't wait for the next season!
Best show of the year. Looking forward to season 2.
I am afraid the "she's alive" will be taken as he's talking about the baby. Hopefully his sister puts the 2 pieces together of him holding the photo.
Holy shit I hadn't even considered this!
That was my first thought as well. That’s gonna be so damn brutal
Yh all the idiot had to do was say "GEMMA'S alive!" 🤦🤦🤦
I was facepalming so hard at that moment.
The series feels like a HBO show. The quality is impeccable.
Apple Originals are great!
I was on the edge of my seat for the entire season finale. I said "Oh no!" when Mark said the wrong name.
I rewatched the last 90 seconds of the finale at least 5 times. Incredible ending
just watched this show and it's absolutely phonominal. cinematography, cast, acting, setting, visuals etc, EVERYTHING in this is just *chefs kiss*. can't wait for season 2.
The good place and mr robot weren’t cancelled though. They were both planned for four seasons.
@@ToweringPsychic Yea I know edited that out
No when he said Ms. Cobel I thought I was going to have a a heart attack !! I loved this shoooooow, Season 2 helllooooo 😭. Helly being an Eagan was WILD because she absolutely hated the job so much, I just did not see that coming.
not only the cliffhanger finale, the whole show is a cliffhanger
xddddddddd but i love it
It is a pretty good idea for the series!
Brilliant series, brilliant actors, brilliant episode.
Just Brilliant.
Finally Season 2 is on the way. This show is so great. Thanks for sharing some of the art behind the production. Amazing!
I just finished episode 9 and wow, I have not been this satisfied of a first season finale of a show since the season one finale of LOST. One of the greatest single episodes of any TV show regardless of episode number.
Criminally underrated show, still..
How did you find out about the show because I had to go through so much garbage before I came up on severance it was all by chance When you say it is underrated do you mean by the critics or by the Ratings
@@2sense110 I found it from a TH-cam comment lmao
Thank God I watched Severance just in time for season 2 because that cliffhanger ending is aching me!
Lucky, i have been waiting.3 freaking years lol. Season 2 trailer just dropped
This show was a drug to watch. I NEED more!!! I NEED to know what happens next. I hope they come out with the second season ASAP!!!! Pleeeeeeeease
I actively avoided watching this show because I thought it must be terrible since it wasn't all over my social media. Ran out of tvshows to watch today, so I decided to give 'Severance' a chance. Man I'm so glad I did!
You sure sound like a fun person to hang out with
One of the best damned shows I've ever seen.
Better call Saul
Fargo

@@Zeta4The lead actress was a huge turn off for me in that show.
I just watched this entire season in one sitting. Brilliant
The editors and cinematographers for this show were soooooo good. Unsung heroes!!
11:20 That frantic bargaining just was the cherry on the cake. This was a fantastic finale.
I was genuinely sweating profusely during the finale episode. It was that stressful. 😂 Phenomenal writing, the tone of the show, everything, it blew me away. Cannot wait for season 2.
Oh man even watching this I still get goosebumps when he yells “ She’s alive!”. Season 2 is premiering 2 days after my birthday so I’m totally stoked!
I can’t wait for the second season!!
Magnificent show, perfect finale, cant wait for season 2. Love adam scott!
I still can't believe Ben Stiller made this. That's the big twist. From Dodgeball (which is an awesome movie) to this.
Lmao why Dodgeball?
One of the best first seasons of any show I've ever seen. Such a killer start. I really hope season 2 lives up to expectations.
Rewatched the whole show to prepare for Season 2, and yeah, the ending is even greater than I remember
This show has it all it’s Hilarious it’s Nail-biting its suspenseful and it’s all woven together beautifully
This is truly one of the greatest shows of the decade, and the cast and crew should be immensely proud of what they have created here. I haven’t been so enthralled with a show in a while.
can’t wait for season 2!!!
The Cinematography really deserved an emmy nom! :(
this was phenomenal, I just finished the show and I've been insatiably waiting for more
Cannot wait for Season 2!
Might honestly go down as one of the best season finales ever made. It's seriously an incredible episode, what amazing work
Such a phenomenal show. So excited for season 2!
Man this show is so good, its pretty much why I subscribed to Apple TV+. Can’t wait for season 2. thank you for this @Ben stiller and his team, absolute legends. ❤
That finale was one of the more inspired episodes of TV. Absolutely enthralling.
They must be so incredibly proud of this show. It's a masterpiece.
