The Bible presents fasting as something that is good, profitable, and beneficial. The book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important decisions (Acts 13:2; 14:23). Fasting and prayer are often linked together (Luke 2:37; 5:33). Too often, the focus of fasting is on the lack of food. Instead, the purpose of fasting should be to take your eyes off the things of this world to focus completely on God. Fasting is a way to demonstrate to God, and to ourselves, that we are serious about our relationship with Him. Fasting helps us gain a new perspective and a renewed reliance upon God.
Although fasting in Scripture is almost always a fasting from food, there are other ways to fast. Anything given up temporarily in order to focus all our attention on God can be considered a fast (1 Corinthians 7:1-5). Fasting should be limited to a set time, especially when fasting from food. Extended periods of time without eating can be harmful to the body. Fasting is not intended to punish the flesh, but to redirect attention to God. Fasting should not be considered a “dieting method” either. The purpose of a biblical fast is not to lose weight, but rather to gain deeper fellowship with God. Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food (diabetics, for example). Everyone can temporarily give up something in order to draw closer to God.
By taking our eyes off the things of this world, we can more successfully turn our attention to Christ. Fasting is not a way to get God to do what we want. Fasting changes us, not God. Fasting is not a way to appear more spiritual than others. Fasting is to be done in a spirit of humility and a joyful attitude. Matthew 6:16-18 declares, “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

I do on occasion have a coffee with some milk and the milk would of course break the fasting effect.
Also I'm not religious about it.
If I go to a BBQ in the afternoon I will eat something. I'll also grab a drink with friends at night well after I had my meal. It's my standard routine but I have no problems enjoying special occasions.
I'd say most of my food is just animal products and veggies. I don't keep track of the nutrition, just make what I want. I'll usually have a nice chunk of meat with some kind of sauce. A nice chicken thigh with steamed broccoli + carrots, maybe some tomatoes covered in a sauce (butter, garlic, onions, cream, chicken stock) kind of deal. Maybe some baked fish with lemon and asparagus and a salad.
I've never had an attachment to carbs really. Bread and pasta don't have any taste to me and are just vehicles for the foods that actually taste good so I just eat those foods on their own.
I do however have the occasional cheeseburger or pizza, again, I'm not religious about it.
For me energy is never a problem. The only time things get hard is if I go on vacation and regularly eat bad, after a few days of that I can feel my mood swing, brain fog, energy flux etc. I'd say most important thing is just to experiment and find out what works for you.
I have a great friend who eats like a squirrel. Every hour he's nibbling on something and he seems to be doing just fine.
The OMAD and low carb life just fits for me although I would HIGHLY suggest to anyone who hasn't to try it at least once in their lives.
Low Carb, Good Exercise, OMAD, 3 month.
Anyone with any conditions though, including IBS should likely consult with someone beforehand. 99% likely going to be ok but the body is a complicated machine.
      Best of luck!

@@makokx7063 thank you so much for the detailed answer, that was very kind of you!
I have also noticed i feel better if i eat more fats, proteins, vegetables and less carbs.
Of course one has to improve first their medical conditions before finding the best diet for themselves.
I wish you succeed in whatever you do, u still have disciplined your body to a way greater extent than most people,
even if you are not religious about it.

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO AND KNOWLEDGE!!!!!!
I track my cycles and am fortunate to be a person who has a very consistent and healthy cycle.
But I’ve never understood my different cycles WITHIN my cycle and I am life hacked thanks to you both.
I’m less than a week out from my menstruation and SO tired. I always am about a week out and could never work out why. Even today at the gym I just couldn’t push myself and after half an hour called it quits.
My cycles being so regular means I am heading home to put all my new knowledge to work in my planner and making my cycle not just work for me but be able to honour it at the highest level.
I’m so blown away right now and beyond grateful. Off to buy Dr Peltz’s book tomorrow. Thanks Jim for your book, have it and loved it. Changed the way I learn!!!!❤

You won't see results but you'll train yourself, so that when you switch to 18:6 it's effortless. I did that, then was able to chip away and go to 19:5 after a few months, then 20:4. A year later I'm doing 22:2, which is basically a flavored iced coffee and cake and one meal a day (usually only about 90 minutes but I still give myself 2 hours). I do fast as a sacrificial offer out of reverence unto God, but it's quite eye-opening to know how it affects our overall health and hormonal systematic chain if I can call it that. I knew about the hormone testosterone and estrogen but learned about progesterone for the first time today. Thank you 🙂

I was fasting for 20 hours per day on most days. I was bleeding most days of the month and had tests, swabs, and scans, which all came back negative, and none of the health professionals knew why this was happening. I followed the fasting lengths in the 30-day reset in Fast Like a Girl and the results were immediate. Problem solved! My favourite length fast is 17 hours, but I now know that this is not suitable for every day.

I hope others get the benefits of this important implement into our lives. I shall be doing this more and more until I could do a 72 hr fast. Thank you so very much Mindy.

I've been doing the 16:8 for many many years naturally since before intermittent fasting was a hot topic and I used to get all kinds of crap from everyone judging me for not eating "breakfast" until it had the title of intermittent fasting! LOL! I just never felt like eating in the mornings and liked waiting until noon for lunch because I observed that whenever I did eat early I ended up snacking all day long! Anyway I'm 61 now so I don't really have the cycles I guess and am wondering now about what I should do with fasting and hormone regulation...??? to optimize good brain health.

Ditto for me, too. I'm 61 now & have been playing fairly successfully over the last few years with the IF with the main purpose of reaching autophagy & the healing effects. ❤ Between that & using my specific supplements has been like a long term experiment, but I find it amazing how quickly I can heal from injuries & my clarity when I'm fasting regularly. 🎉

  • @user-mg6sb7pw7h

She is absolutely right saying it’s not optional. The best part is you don’t think about food all the time when even you are not hungry, when I am not fasting I can see that when I make delicious food for my family I eat a lot of times with them in a day, and I want to keep eating ( I am not fat mind you ) it’s worth to do it, for your focus, body, mind, it changes everything, it’s like you’re a totally different person when you’re fasting.

    • @Maria_Serbina

Postmenopausal women needs to pay attention to progesterone producing carbs. We are in better position with fasting because most of our hormons are produced by adrenals, pituitary and skin, but this why we need to pay attention to sweet potatoes, potatoes, chocolate. I fast 24 hrs every week. I don't go an keto kick. I eat cabs (no junk or processed). I bake my own rye bread. Eat a small piece with eggs. Fasting schedule is : Monday 24 hrs to Tuesday morning, Wed, Thursday and Fri 17 hrs. Sat and Sunday (no fasting)13-15 hrs. I do 72-96 hrs water fast every 3 months.

@Jade-ms2ys you have to eat cabs that help progesterone production like sweet potatoes. Yams halp with balancing estrogen. For postmenopausal women keto approach to foods is not the best. We need good carbs.
