If Roger were there, the panel would’ve been even more chaotic than it already was. 😂 A comedic triple combo, which still needs to happen to get all of them together for a panel.
Jason is one of my favorite VAs for Sonic and Shadow. And Kirk’s voice for Shadow has really grown on me especially in Shadow Generations. I think both VAs fit the character very well.

It's not his call to make sadly, it's SEGA's. Jason has reprised Shadow for EmuEmi's Sonic and Tails R, along with Ryan Drummond as Sonic. If that doesn't show he'd be down to reprise the role(s)....But again, blame SEGA.

This was really fun to watch, both Kirk and Jason seem like really pleasant, laid back guys, and it was actually pretty rad seeing the two of them bounce off each other in this panel. As much as I miss and adore Jason and the rest of the 4kids cast, the 3rd generation cast were awesome but just struggled with really mediocre game writing and wonky voice direction, something that Frontiers and Shadow Generations have fixed and allowed them to really shine. I've enjoyed Kirk Thornton's other roles outside of Sonic (Askeladd in Vinland Saga, Surtr/Dorcas/Yen'Fay/Iago in FEH, etc), both of these guys are super talented and very underrated actors.
Nice! I've been waiting for this upload since I unfortunately missed the panel when I was at MomoCon. I was able to get a photo with Jason though! He also signed my copy of Black Knight. So cool
I think it's funny how Jason Griffith's current Shadow voice sounds more like Kirk Thorton's Shadow voice than the way he portrayed Shadow when he was actually playing him. Also the first person in the Q&A sounded like a voice actor! They kinda sounded like K.O. lol
As a kid who massively grew up on Sonic X. The Storybook Games. Unleashed. Jason Grithif has always been my favourite sonic voice. He could be high energy. He could be relaxed. He could bring real emotion to the voice while still sounding like Sonic. And I've always apreciated that aspect of the character.
I’ve heard people say Kirk’s Shadow sounds like a smoker, but that was actually Jason’s take. 😆 “We’re here for Shadow. I mean we’re here for Sonic!” We all know why we’re here! 30:19 THEY SAID IT! The argument over water being wet was hilarious!
@@yrooxrksvi7142 Nah if Kirk used a voice performance similar to Jin from the anime Samurai Champloo, he’d be perfect since it sounds very similar to David Humphrey’s portrayal of Shadow.
Kirk was amazing in SXSG as Shadow. He was also amazing as Kisame in the Naruto series. I loved the new direction for his voice in SXSG and can't wait to see what's next!
@@orangeslash1667 They said the same for Roger as Sonic, and he sounded phoned in as hell in Frontiers other than noticeably too old. At this point, it's just easier to assume that most of the Studiopolis cast is miscasted.
@@yrooxrksvi7142 Kirk isn't the only one. Roger himself admitted that the deeper voice was the director's idea. What Roger needs to do is use his Forge voice from Wolverine and the X-men. That voice would fit Sonic better. What Kirk needs to due is use his Harry Mason voice from Silent Hill Shattered Memories.
This is why I really want the 4Kids company and the rest of the 4Kids voice actors back. Jason needs to come back as the voice of Sonic and Shadow he has too. Please, Sega hire Jason Griffith, Amy Palant, Lisa Ortiz and Dan Green back. Please!
Ya know, I don't think I ever saw much of Jason really, to me after his role is Unleashed and Pokemon BW, its like he disappeared off the face of the globe.
That would be cool and not just them, but some of the other characters with actors that are still alive. Tails, Amy and Knuckles too. Though I doubt that'll ever happen.
I'd send in a million request letters for Jason Griffith to come back. He hasn't lost his touch and makes a million times better mature Sonic voice as well as being young!
(This post is for me) Best and worst Shadow side by side 👀. Sorry Kirk and his fans, but just gotta be brutally honest. Though I'll always defend his one exceptional take in Sonic Forces (don't know why this was the ONLY time he sounded based in the game series. Free Riders was okay too, but he peaked in Forces, which should be the standard VA direction for him. Sega/Kirk, please). Wait hold up, Kirk is a voice director too? That only raises my disappointment further in his general portrayal. I just take acting and portrayals with my favorite characters seriously. Person wise though Kirk is cool. While everyone else timestamps the same thing(s), I'll add 10:25 (peak Sonic). Also, for the first time, hearing Jason talk regularly I realized can actually subtlety hear his Sonic. And it sounds good. With some very basic acting control, it sounds like he could easily pull off an aged/older/mature Sonic, like Roger has over the years (but of course better - similar matter with Kirk). Always awesome to see old VAs who actually still got it. 19:45 Peak Shadow doing a voice promotion for airline service, lol. 24:10 I mean, it's facts tho. 28:15 Wow someone actually asked him about his strep-throat when VAing Werehog. Based person. I strongly wished there were more specifically interesting questions like that asked to actors instead of "fun questions" like _whats your favorite color? where'd you go to school? what do you do on Thursdays? what's your favorite food?_ Ultra boring and pointless questions, instead of taking the special and lucky opportunity to ask intelligent questions that can clarify public misconceptions, add clarity to old/mixed topics, or give expansions to brief answers of the past. And would you look at that, Jason's answer to my question perfectly proved the exact points I just made. Okay let me digress the ranting. So Jason didn't have strep throat, just a really sore throat, and his overall answer was very satisfying to hear. Love it. 30:41 (Silv...) Jason just keeps making this panel highly entertaining. His answers throughout are too enjoyable. 36:26 Bason back at it again, like im saying. Basically did the 4th chaos emerald take but this time without Kirk's voice drowning/negating his, which he probably did that on purpose. Great! 38:05 A tall ask that even I probably wouldn't have, but this also based individual's request was honored by the actors. This was one of the best parts of this whole experiences, thanks to that fella. 40:25 Bro imitated KIRK'S Shadow, gold. Man I can't. 41:42 He doing so many voice impressions on this panel. This gotta be the peakest panel. 48:48 What in the speed of light was that Kirk 😭😆. 50:45 LMAO at that background person that said "you're too slow", somehow even funnier that he was ignored. Seems like noone caught on, even Jason the person who voiced that line originally. He probably didn't hear it that well from up there I assume. But yeah that was funnier than it should have been. 53:19 Thank god the last question was (really) based. Another top tier question. Some insight on why Jason sounded better as Sonic in Unleashed and Black Knight, and even he was self aware which was a great little add-on. Sega quite literally chose the worse timing to drop Jason as Sonic, at his literal prime. Again, even Jason knew he had a handle on Sonic then. Dammit Sega. I never imagined I'd find Jason even cooler than I already did. A perfect match/casting for that cool blue spikey hedgehog. Cmon, he's so clearly the definitive Sonic. It's definitely not even close. His coolness is unrivaled, just like 90's/2000's Sonic. I just gotta see a shared panel with Jason and Roger now. It's a must, especially with their personalities. That shit would be wild.
Jason is my all time favorite voice actor for Sonic and Shadow and was the one I grew up with most Kirk I wasn’t too keen about him as Shadow mostly his performance in Sonic Boom but after watching Dark Beginnings and seeing SXSG he has improved so much and he is my third favorite next to Ian who voiced shadow in Sonic prime both of them have done great job voicing this character and given their own unique personalities I hope to one day get to meet both of them someday 👍🦔🖤💙
With all due respect to Kirk, as I liked him as Saix and Gabumon, he doesn't really impresses me at all as Shadow. From Free Riders till Boom, he sounds like he was doing a drunken impression of David Humphrey. From Forces onwards, he's just doing a watered down Saix. In SxSGens he was just....bland and underwhelming, no line that really stood out, even when he's angry, he comes across as dull.
44:22 That’s me right there, Andrea!🤩 Jason Griffith is my favorite voice actor of Sonic and my favorite celebrity of all time due to how much I love Sonic! I even love him as Shadow and Jet! Oh my gosh! EEP!🤩 I originally met him that last Friday and was planning on seeing him on Sunday at the Sonic panel. Yet, my friend didn’t feel well so she couldn’t make it. I didn’t know if she or my boyfriend and I were going to come back on Monday. (We did, lol) But, I saw Jason Griffith again right before the Sonic panel so that I can give my friend a signature. I knew that he was a Full House/Scott Weigner fan like I am. I also love him as Aladdin and I met him at MoMoCon as well!🤩 He was so nice!🤩 Anyways, Jason Griffith got super excited to find out from me that Scott Weigner was there. So he literally ran over to Scott Weigner’s table only to not see him there. 😞 But, at the Sonic panel he called me out actually thanking me for letting him know that Scott Weigner was there. That moment as well as asking them that Sonic Movie question, getting their answers, and calling them awesome as well as Jason Griffith calling me awesome is such a pure dream! EEP!!!!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 Oh and that microphone was too tall for me so I was trying to fix it up. Kirk Thornton told me to own that thing.😂😅 The microphone worked out for a while. But, at the end, it started falling apart on me so I tried to fix it yet I listened to them at the same time. I forgot it was in my hand till they both reminded me, whoops.😂😅 Thankfully, I had some help from a handler and then left. At least it gave Jason Griffith and Kirk Thornton quite a laugh. Lol EEP!!!!!🤩😂😅
I heard of your reputation on Facebook, Andrea. You didn't deserve this experience especially since you're a toxic Sonic fan who supports Brian Peck and James Marsden
Kirk definitely stepped up a lot in Dark Beginnings and SxSG, but he just sounds... Too old, at times. Too forced. Jason's Shadow is still the best for me. David's... Was really good in Sonic Heroes, but I feel like he needed more games to be properly evaluated.
The journey of both Sonic & Shadow’s VA’s fits so much with their characterization through out the franchise with the script given. Jason really did great at representing Sonic’s young teenage persona with the script he was given. Carefree, Cocky, Hopeful & Adventurous. You could really hear how much fun the character has. While Roger’s debut wasn’t the best, he’s arguably affirmed himself with being having the most vocal variety with Tone for Sonic. No offense to Jason. I still love him, but I’ve found to enjoy Roger more because he sounds like the best at really making Sonic sound less caricature like and more like a real person with Boom(TV) & Frontiers/SXSG. He delivers his jokes really well but can also sell a more serious and annoyed Sonic than I’ve ever heard before. There’s also the fact that he makes Sonic sound a little more older than Jason, which I personally enjoy since I feel like Sonic’s getting older in the same way the franchise is. Jason sounds like 13-15 Sonic and Roger sounds like 15-17 Sonic. The same goes for Kirk. While he wasn’t the best in his debut, after forces & SXSG, I feel like he represents how Shadow become less “Edgy” in a sense in how he’s actively still moving on from his past but still retains the lonesome, “I’ll do things my own way” sort of attitude but has a lot more emotional variety. There’s a certain rasp in his voice that really swells the seriousness of the character. Once again, still love Jason, but listening to his delivery and dialogue again reminds me how “Evil” Shadow used to be whereas today he’s more of a lonesome, yet aggressive hero, which Kirk absolutely nails in Dark Beginnings and Sonic X Shadow I do hope Sega keeps the two for a long time
Ughhhh Not this "Character aging" bs excuse again.... "he’s arguably affirmed himself with being having the most vocal variety with Tone for Sonic. " Vocal variety ???? From Colors to Forces, all he did was the same deadpan dudebro with sinusitis voice everywhere, coming across as insufferable, whiny and juvenile. In Boom he sounds chronically depressed. And in Frontiers, he straight up gave up and used his own regular voice, sounding like he's doing a bored rehearsal for Chris Redfield. Where's this "vocal variety" you''re on about ? "I’ve found to enjoy Roger more because he sounds like the best at really making Sonic sound less caricature like and more like a real person with Boom(TV) & Frontiers/SXSG." HAHAH No way this is a serious comment. Roger ??? Making Sonic more real ??? Are you for real ? In Colors, Lost World and Forces, he's literally a one dimensional Looney Tunes wannabe, with no personality trait except "cocky and self-absorbed". Seriously, are you on so something ??? In Boom especially, when he's not sounding like a deadpan depressed low wage worker, he just makes noises or reverts back to the whiny nasal voice from Colors and Lost World. And Frontiers ? His attempt at sounding serious comes across as jarring and even more detached. " He delivers his jokes really well" Spouting juvenile cringe 24/7 while being absolutely insufferable at it. "Durrr Baldy McNoseshair" "Hue hue hue Let's go and recede Eggman's hairline", not to mention how out of place the latter is. "but can also sell a more serious and annoyed Sonic than I’ve ever heard before." If by serious, you mean workaholic 40 year old dad. Annoyed ? LMFAO He just sounds whiny and screechy, and even then, he always has the same bored deadpan tone whenever he talk. No enthusiasm, no energy, no spark that either Ryan, Jason or Ben in the movies have. "There’s also the fact that he makes Sonic sound a little more older than Jason, " A little. He literally sounds like a grown ah man in Frontiers. "which I personally enjoy since I feel like Sonic’s getting older in the same way the franchise is. Jason sounds like 13-15 Sonic and Roger sounds like 15-17 Sonic. " Sonic. Does. NOT. Age.
"While he wasn’t the best in his debut, after forces & SXSG, I feel like he represents how Shadow become less “Edgy” in a sense in how he’s actively still moving on from his past but still retains the lonesome, “I’ll do things my own way” sort of attitude but has a lot more emotional variety. " If it took THIS much time for his to "get good", it's really telling. Again with the "edgy" bs. Just like Sonic has been reduced to a one-note Deadpool wannabe until 2021, so was Shadow reduced to a Vegeta wannabe. But he's still quite the former shadow of who he once was. Just a generic loner rival guy. Don't see where the "emotional variety" is. "There’s a certain rasp in his voice that really swells the seriousness of the character." From Free Riders to Boom, he sounded like he was doing a drunken David Humphrey impression. Now he just sounds old and monotone, just recycling his gig as Saix or Kisame. " Once again, still love Jason, but listening to his delivery and dialogue again reminds me how “Evil” Shadow used to be whereas today he’s more of a lonesome, yet aggressive hero, which Kirk absolutely nails in Dark Beginnings and Sonic X Shadow " WTF are you talking about ? Jason's Shadow WAS the lonesome aggressive hero already in 06 ! In Dark Beginnings and Shadow Gens, Kirk has pretty much the same serious monotone all around, no real chages in tone aside from some angry outbursts that feel out of left field. "I do hope Sega keeps the two for a long time" NO. NO. NO. HELL NO. They've been around way longer than they should have, and they're not getting any better.

it's insane to see two legends voicing one of my favorite characters together in the same room. I've always like Jason's Shadow but Kirk's took me a little bit longer to like, it started sounding better in Forces and sounded REALLY GOOD in Shadow Generations. I love their origin stories to how they got the role of Shadow and I'm trying to figure out which role Kirk had which made the director ask him if he wanted to audition for Shadow. It had to be 2010 or prior due to Kirk voicing Shadow in Free Riders and Colors DS. He was actually an announcer in the original Call of Duty Black Ops so I wonder...
I like Kirk in other roles, especially Saix in KH, but honestly he just doesn't work as Shadow. People say "ohhhh He's gotten better". No, he just dropped the raspy drunken David Humphrey impression and he's just doing a worse version of Saix or Kisame. In Forces, he had some majorly cringe lines too. None of his lines in Shadow Gens really stuck, and I felt most of his performance was pretty underwhelming and flat. Same for Dark Beginnings, where the emotional outbursts felt undercooked.
@@yrooxrksvi7142 respectfully, I disagree. Jason or David would be better but I'm perfectly fine with how Kirk sounds in Shadow Generations. This is coming from someone that grew up with the 4kids cast and was upset to hear that they all got replaced in 2010 except for Mike.
@@Vantoxify Fine, but good ? Name me a line that REALLY sold him for you. Because I can't honestly think of a single line that made me say "Wow, this finally is Shadow". Too old, too monotone.

They'd have to bring back the grandiose, epic and cinematic vibe of Sonic games (Unleashed and 06) back if they're gonna reintroduce Jason Griffith back to Sonic. Otherwise it'd be a waste imo. No more Colors and Lost World writing / storytelling please for the love of God
I don’t know where you’ve been, @@zinidinerahman4168 but they’ve been bringing the epic and cinematic vibe back since 2022 with Sonic Frontiers and now Shadow Generations (go see some of the boss fights)! Also the writers of Colors and Lost World are now gone: they have been replaced with Archie Sonic comic writer Ian Flynn. Otherwise you’re absolutely right, the voice cast really has been wasted; now more than ever. Ask the latest B to A list voice actors Ray Chase and Robbie Daymond. It really comes down to the guy Kirk mentioned, Jack Fletcher; but also Stuiopolis as a whole. Who while what Kirk says is true, he definitely phones in his job at SEGA and miscasts these voice actors so blatantly; especially now. Him and Studiopolis need to go first.
I'd get this argument in 2015 but Kirk fits Shadow stupendously now. They finally told him the character has a backstory and he no longer tries to sound overly edgy but calm and collected. Jason still has my favorite Shadow voice but Kirk has better acting
I don't know where you've been but they have brought back the grandiose epic vibe,@@zinidinerahman4168. It started with Sonic Frontiers in 2022 and now with Shadow Generations! Seriously, at least go and watch the boss fights if you are skeptical. Also, the Colors writing/storytelling is gone as the writers for those games have left; replaced by Sonic Archie Comic writer Ian Flynn. Everything you said though about the casting being a waste especially now is absolutely right. The blame not only goes to how the stories are told but the guy Kirk mentioned at around 44:00: Jack Fletcher. Which, while what he has said about his competence is true; it's very clearly not for Sonic. This dude, along with the recording studio since 2010 Studiopolis has been phoning in their jobs and wasting good A to B list voice talent to this day. If you don't believe me look up and hear who the new popular voice actors Ray Chase and Robbie Daymond are portraying in Sonic. It would definitely be Jack and Studiopolis who would need to step down next if Griffith could come back. (Also, it looks like TH-cam deleted my previous reply so I'm rewriting what I said here for the public and for your response if you have any)
Kirk could be a competent better shadow. while has improved greatly in Sonic X Shadow generations he still needs to get rid of the gruffness in his voice. Instead of a sinister yujiro Hanma or Kisame he should use his youthful natural samurai jin voice or his Saix/Isa voice.
That’s kind of what’s frustrating, because he totally could do it without the gruffness, I’ve heard him in so many things he’s been awesome in. But I’m guessing it’s direction. Kind of like how Sonic sounding so deep voiced in Frontiers was due to the director
@@TheShockVox I generally think Roger is a straight up miscast as Sonic. From Free Riders to Forces, he uses this annoying uppity school jock with sinusitis voice, in Frontiers he sounded like he was phoning in some bored rehearsal as Chris Redfield.
Both Jason and Kirk are really funny together and very professional. But I'm sorry, I'll take Jason every day, and he's somehow gotten even better if Emi Jones' Sonic and Tails R is anything to go by. Real talk, I hope Griffith at the very least comes back as Jet if we see a new Riders game since Sonic and Shadow are off the table.

So cool

I'd send in a million request letters for Jason Griffith to come back. He hasn't lost his touch and makes a million times better mature Sonic voice as well as being young!
Kirk's also Orbot.
(This post is for me)
Best and worst Shadow side by side 👀.

Anyways, Jason Griffith got super excited to find out from me that Scott Weigner was there.
So he literally ran over to Scott Weigner’s table only to not see him there. 😞
But, at the Sonic panel he called me out actually thanking me for letting him know that Scott Weigner was there.

Once again, still love Jason, but listening to his delivery and dialogue again reminds me how “Evil” Shadow used to be whereas today he’s more of a lonesome, yet aggressive hero, which Kirk absolutely nails in Dark Beginnings and Sonic X Shadow
I do hope Sega keeps the two for a long time
Ughhhh Not this "Character aging" bs excuse again....
"he’s arguably affirmed himself with being having the most vocal variety with Tone for Sonic. "
Vocal variety ???? From Colors to Forces, all he did was the same deadpan dudebro with sinusitis voice everywhere, coming across as insufferable, whiny and juvenile. In Boom he sounds chronically depressed. And in Frontiers, he straight up gave up and used his own regular voice, sounding like he's doing a bored rehearsal for Chris Redfield. Where's this "vocal variety" you''re on about ?
"I’ve found to enjoy Roger more because he sounds like the best at really making Sonic sound less caricature like and more like a real person with Boom(TV) & Frontiers/SXSG."
HAHAH No way this is a serious comment.
" He delivers his jokes really well"
Spouting juvenile cringe 24/7 while being absolutely insufferable at it. "Durrr Baldy McNoseshair" "Hue hue hue Let's go and recede Eggman's hairline", not to mention how out of place the latter is.
"but can also sell a more serious and annoyed Sonic than I’ve ever heard before."
If by serious, you mean workaholic 40 year old dad. Annoyed ? LMFAO He just sounds whiny and screechy, and even then, he always has the same bored deadpan tone whenever he talk. No enthusiasm, no energy, no spark that either Ryan, Jason or Ben in the movies have.
"There’s also the fact that he makes Sonic sound a little more older than Jason, "
A little. He literally sounds like a grown ah man in Frontiers.
"which I personally enjoy since I feel like Sonic’s getting older in the same way the franchise is. Jason sounds like 13-15 Sonic and Roger sounds like 15-17 Sonic. "
Sonic. Does. NOT.
If it took THIS much time for his to "get good", it's really telling.
"There’s a certain rasp in his voice that really swells the seriousness of the character."
From Free Riders to Boom, he sounded like he was doing a drunken David Humphrey impression. Now he just sounds old and monotone, just recycling his gig as Saix or Kisame.
" Once again, still love Jason, but listening to his delivery and dialogue again reminds me how “Evil” Shadow used to be whereas today he’s more of a lonesome, yet aggressive hero, which Kirk absolutely nails in Dark Beginnings and Sonic X Shadow "
WTF are you talking about ? Jason's Shadow WAS the lonesome aggressive hero already in 06 ! In Dark Beginnings and Shadow Gens, Kirk has pretty much the same serious monotone all around, no real chages in tone aside from some angry outbursts that feel out of left field.

it's insane to see two legends voicing one of my favorite characters together in the same room.
He's voiced Orbot since 2010, so Colors. Might have something to do with that.

I still liked Humphreys shadow the best but since there's probably no hope Sega would bring Humphrey or Drummond back...I hope Griffith can voice sonic and shadow again. Kirk is good some roles but he just doesn't fit shadow 😅.
I think sometimes Kirk sounds closer to Humphrey than Griffith and I like that
I don’t know where you’ve been, @@zinidinerahman4168 but they’ve been bringing the epic and cinematic vibe back since 2022 with Sonic Frontiers and now Shadow Generations (go see some of the boss fights)!
Funny, cuz in SxSG he pretty much uses the Saix voice. Shows that, as funny as he is, he's a miscast.

Oh, they will. They'll have to eventually because Roger can't voice Sonic forever.

Both Jason and Kirk are really funny together and very professional. But I'm sorry, I'll take Jason every day, and he's somehow gotten even better if Emi Jones' Sonic and Tails R is anything to go by. Kirk is great in other roles where he plays the quiet, broody rival. Jin, Kisame, Saix. But I just don't feel it with his Shadow, even in SxSG it was so....bland and monotone. Still respect though
