Probably 15 years ago there was kid at the beach that works the dock during summer, probably around 13, and he would do this when boats came to fill up with fuel or grab something from the store. Very impressive no matter who’s doing it.
I grew up on the docks and lived aboard. Needless to say I've handled a line plenty. I've never seen anyone do that. Very cool, and for all you "that isn't proper" technique, I agree. However, when speed counts, and it does when docking short hand in wind, I'd rather have her. It can always be made correct after the boat is secured.

I used to practice that exact technique frantically during my short wait at the ramp while my dad walked over to the truck and trailer after every fishing trip when I was a kid.
That type of line of work is very common in places with lots of rental boats that need a fast turnaround. It’s very common to see that in busy marinas as a fast temporary solution to tying off a boat.
I just learned how to do this cause I saw one of our summer employees do this the other week at the boat rental place I manage. Needless to say, I’m definitely gonna get this down perfect to up the tips I get handed when boats come back lol
Woooow, all of these horrid comments make me cringe! She's awesome at what she does. LEAVE IT AT THAT. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.
In windy conditions blowing you away from the dock. You can stand on deck and swirl the dock line around the cleat. Jumping onto the dock and trying hold a large boat is dangerous. Good video.
I did this once 45 years ago during a race, from the high side and everyone saw it but I was never able to do it again and I have since forgotten who was on the boat that saw it.
You did a little smiley face there, cute. Just make sure you keep those remarks on youtube because im the type of guy you do that shit behind her back infront of me we are going to....have a little conversation off to the side. I cant stand a bully.
Are you trying to say I was being a bully? Ummm, I sincerely thought that was a man. I wasn't trying to be mean however I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. No need to play tough over the Internet. Simple mistake.
No round turn on the cleat and she used weather hitches! To any person that works in the maritime field professionally, weather hitches will lock down a line if a heavy strain is applied. This may cause the line to have to be cut. New synthetic line is expensive!
It's really quite easy to learn. When I was in SD on a sail boat with my dad as a kid, I saw the dock guy do it like she did. I practiced and was able to do it by the end of the day. You just need to learn how to get the loop to fall on the cleat right to finish.
I can do that, learned it while dock handling at Catalina, CA... also from much farther away.... the locking technique actually came in handy while working.... Also I looked bad ass for the stripper boat haha
I bought a new, flexible rope (line) so I could practice doing that on dry land with no witnesses. If I get it down and learn a few knots then I'll have confidence to take my boat to the launching area.
reminds me of those shooters that set records in hitting targets really fast...but put them in stressful environment(where stuff explodes) and they wont hit anything x)
She figure-eighted it enough wraps to take pressure from tie, and then threw a half hitch on each side to lock. Very good. I have many nicknames and Ropeman is one. I don't know it all but I have never came up short on a solution. She is damn good and you can bet your sweet-ass, or hers, that she won't lose a boat on a weak tie. You Go Girl
I'm going to have to mount a cleat on my patio so I can sit around and practice this.
Ahahahhaha
I was thinking the same thing
That’s a better idea lol. You can find my dumbass standing on the dock looking stupid practicing all day.
9 years ago he’s still getting comments on this 😂
I agree! I wanna try this!🤣

some guy at my marina taught me how to do this when I was like 8.... it's not as hard as it looks, and it's DEFINITELY worth the time to learn!

I'd be worried it'll break the horn before there's a chance. Not a single wrap on the base.
@@silvermediastudio how often do horns break?

Vaaaary nice!! Linda I'm coming by to learn that!
I can do that, here hold my beer.
omg it's you
drink your beer and get that next boat in the water, your dog needs to sail.
Wicked Salty That's awesome. I'm sure those skills will make you rich.
Wicked Salty HAHAHAHA FUCKING ORIGINAL COMMENT RIGHT THERE GOOD ONE HAHAHHA
I would be honoured but first let me go and comb my hair for 25 minutes (so I look good for the cameras)
Thanks for giving me something to work on this summer

got stoked when I saw the Frenchys logo at the end. vaca down there every year during the illinois winter and its always a must stop!
i love when people figure out ways to do stuff quickly that works.
After watching it twice, I now feel like I'm an expert at it, also. That's what many years of TH-cam has done to me.

Those are otherworldly skills.

And she has the cutest dimples too!
You do it at all and I'll be impressed.
This technique is VERY handy coming from someone who worked at a marina
The 8s I can do but the cinch is where I’m impressed
This is pretty easy to do. Most dockstaff who've worked the job over a year would know how to do this. Especially at a big or busy marina.
Those are some skills. Maybe I should practice that.

no, first learn to make a proper cleat hitch. Looks impressive, but result not that good

fantastic way take the knots.....
