  • Take a look at the construction of the incredible Millennium Force coaster at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. While I have released some of this footage many years ago, this is the first time I have released it in 60fps. I thank Cedar Point for inviting me to take an up close and personal look at Millennium Force.

    What a time to be an enthusiast. So much happening in the late 90s/ early early 2000s. That little snippet about Villain at GL hurt too. No one knew how crazy things were about to get

      It was a great time to be an enthusiast. There was so much being built. I remember first hearing about Millennium Force about a month before it was announced. I was told to go ride Superman at Darien Lake to get an idea of what to expect. While I was in line for Superman, I ran into some industry folks that were there for the same reason I was. Ha ha.

      @@SeanFlaharty awesome memories! I think we are in a time again where it’s great to be an enthusiast in a way that’s similar to the lates 90s - early/mid 2000s.

    This is great work! My favorite ride there!
    Cedar point would never let all this peeking happen with their new rides anymore.

      They kind of do. They have a charity event each winter where everyone is taken on a tour of the park and taken to backstage areas. Back when I recorded this video, the park would call some folks for small private tours.

    Nice! That brings back a lot of memories! I visited the park in 99 and took a lot of photos of the sign and the construction site. I remember how mesmerized I was from watching it on the webcam. It's still one of my favorite rides there. Thanks for sharing!

      It's still one of my faves as well. I know plenty of people that don't care for it. I would love to know what they would have thought had they been alive when that coaster opened. The hype was insane!!

    MF will ALWAYS be my favorite no matter what they build because it's the one that brought coaster fandom to an all time high, it broke the limits, it created the wars that lead to rides like Fury 325 today. This is legendary footage and the HYPE of EVERYONE is something you don't see anymore.

    Stengel is a genius. We need more coaster designers that are like him.

    • @SeanFlaharty
      @SeanFlaharty  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, trust me. They are out there. VelociCoaster, for example, is a non-Stengel designed coaster that has elements that look like something he may have cooked up. His influence is everywhere.

      @@SeanFlahartyall I can find for now is Werner Stengel and John Wardley. I'm expecting to search for more coaster designers that designs coasters built by Multiple Coaster Manufacturers B&M, Intamin, MACK, and Gerstulaur

      Keith McVeen has designed most of the layouts of all the Universal coasters since he started over ten years ago. He also has the patent for the new Donkey Kong Coaster that will open in a few years. His first project was Forbidden Journey. Jon Smith of Sea World is also another guy that really designs some incredible layouts, working with manufactures. He has designed the layouts for everything at the Sea World and Busch parks for over ten years as well. Iron Gwazi? Pantheon? Those are just some of the latest coasters he has worked on. Both are friends of mine. :)

      @SeanFlaharty  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. We had heard about it but I hadn't seen pictures of it until it was nearly completed. I believe the ride was announced in November of 1999, a few months after Cedar Point announced Millennium Force. I went to Fuji Q in 2005 and Steel Dragon was closed due to an accident. It reopened and I was finally able to ride it in July of 2019. Fun ride.

    • @SeanFlaharty
      @SeanFlaharty  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was quite a project. I remember seeing footage of the wheel being reconstructed in the front of the park. I have been going to Cedar Point since the 70s and it felt odd that the wheel would be sitting in the front of the park. Now it seems like it has always been in the front location forever.

    Millennium Force is a Hyper coaster model not to be fooled because of the Disambiguational names .But it is still a Giga Coaster. So it's a Giga-Hyper and Hyper Coaster models that are 200 Dr and over, like Magnum XL-200 could be prefer as a Double-Hyper Duplex-Hyper, or a Twin-Hyper

    • @SeanFlaharty
      @SeanFlaharty  ปีที่แล้ว

      In technical terms, I believe Intamin's hyper coasters were listed as Mega Coasters in their catalogs during the time they were making them with that design. You are correct in that Millennium Force is essentially a big hyper/Mega coaster. The trains are slightly different than those found on the other Mega Coasters by Intamin.

    • @themeparkreconnoiter9787
      @themeparkreconnoiter9787 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeanFlaharty I guest Intamin doesn't give a shit about B&M Morgan and Arrow or what there coaster models are supposed to be called. If they called there coaster models Mega instead of Hyper. That means that there models that are 200ft tall and over are called Hyper-Mega Coasters. However if there 300ft tall and over. That means there called Giga-Mega Coasters.
