Yes, Harry Stoneham technically wrote it, but that’s only because the full version is much longer and has other elements, so he was credited as the writer. Laurie composed the actual piano bit that was used as the theme, and when he was musical director Stoneham did his jazzy take on it. When Laurie took over in 98 they went back to using a simpler version with just piano and saxophone.
This clip is a little disrespectful to the real writer of the Parkinson Theme. The late Harry Stoneham wrote the theme. And he was the musical director for years before Laurie holloway had anything to do with the show.
It was a fantastic programme , weekly unmissable and always interesting . According to my dad , it was one of the better things on the telly , it turned into the family gathering . 👍🇬🇧

When the show was a hit, the BBC wanted to release a single but because there was no full version other than the 30 second theme part, so Stoneham expanded it and was listed as the songwriter.
Laurie Holloway has written some fantastic TV themes but he didn't write this one. Credit should go to Harry Stoneham.
