I messed up, Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters is a bit more than just "more of the same," so there will be a video on that game next week.
SNES drunk 🥴
Have a nice rest of your day

Also, there's a few other differences between the characters. Protoman *does* have a faster dash, but it also forces you to travel further and he doesn't get any lower to the ground like with Mega's slide. Bass's airdash thing is just terrible because it normally rockets you straight into attacks you were probably trying to avoid, but if I remember right he can do it in the air, too, I think? There's some trick to it that makes it not totally useless, but it's been so long since I played I can't remember exactly. Overall, Mega is the best character because his slide lets him dodge more attacks and that's really the only difference.
In the second game they also get special attacks to differentiate them a bit more (and Duo plays entirely differently from these three), but those aren't in Power Battle.
0:51 actually you can choose your boss order by timing the button press with the cursor's location. If you leave it for long enough it will select randomly, but you can stop it while it cycles through the bosses by pressing the shoot button (at least on the Anniversary port)
In arcade is like that, too.
I think the only difference is that difficulty is slightly harder on arcade.
This was really fun on the Anniversary Collection.
Fun gem, would be cool to get another sequel.
This game was also in the wild on some the multicade arcade machines that came out in the mid 2000.
Yeah I remember playing this one at a Costco on one of the display multicade machines they were selling.
I have one, on my family’s Arcade Legends 2 cab. It’s just called “Mega Man”
Hey! That's what I played it on!
Gotta love the Dr Wily Stage 1 remix in the fight against the Mecha Dragon. These games are awesome.
Total length of video: 285 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 5 secs.
1.75% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
The Nostalgia Factor yeah, that happens a lot
😆
Recycled comment 😂😂
Haha and I enjoyed every millisecond of it!
@@TheGunmanChannel If you'd read the previous comments you'd know it's a thing he's doing now. SNES drunk says he could beat 8 seconds. So we're all waiting for it to happen. 😉
The Nostalgia Factor is almost as essential to these videos as SNES Drunk himself now, and I applaud both their continuing efforts.
3:10 Talking about Iceman using Freeze Man's theme: "It still sounds cool".
Was that intended?
It'll be a lot cooler if it was.
As head no, chill with puns! Being punny is not so cool.
He's just trying to break the ice.
You'll get a cold reception for a joke that isnt as ice as something that chill.
would've been nICE
Dude! This was on a neo Geo at my local super 1 growing up!
So much fun and I never beat it, b/c my mom stopped giving me quarters.
Bass was my fav character.
I never heard this game was ported in neo geo it was in CPS1 if i remember
it feels like i spent half of my (long) life in arcades. to still be learning about games that i never took the time to play or knew existed at all, is one of the things that is so awesome about the internet, and we really take that for granted.
In the second game, each character has their own special second charge attack that goes by pressing up while firing your shot. Mega Man hss an uppercut, Protoman has a short ranged attack, etc.. Probably to make up for how master weapons are given when there are two players.
I never knew! Must try it out.
Hell yeah, I love these! I found out about these on the internet back when they were first released and "playing it any way you can" (especially with arcade titles) was nowhere near as advanced or easy as today and these were my damn *holy grail* for years until they finally got packed in with the Anniversary Collection. The AC is great anyway, but these are honestly the best reason to own it, especially if you're a huge nerd like me and already owned all of the classic MM series on carts (...plus 8) anyway.
Fun fact, these titles were also released on the NGPC in Japan :)
Always nice to see another video from you Drunk. Hope 2020 is treating you well.
This game right here started my love for mega man it was the first game I played of mega man
I remember seeing this in a magazine in the 90's and just baffled me to see Gutsman so detailed. Had to wait for the ps2 collection like you mentioned. The second one IIRC has a shoryuken by holding up while charging or something like that. Was really cool to find out :)
If you thought that was baffling, you should see the Mega Man cartoon where they show off Gutsman's robo-butt.
I loved this game so much. Every afternoo I went to a store that had the arcade and played. I memorized every boss pattern to the point where I could beat it without getting hit at all and using only 1 coin. Great game, definitely give it a shot.
Woodman does a literal barrel roll. Hilarious.
I still have the GameCube edition of the Anniversary Collection from when I first pre-ordered it. So good.
This was actually at an old arcade I used to go to when I was a kid. Can't tell you how many quarters I piled into that machine. Bass's giant skull charge shot when he was at low hp was pretty neat
I believe these are now available on Capcom arcade stadium for PS4 and PS5
From the ages of like 5-8 I was obsessed with Megaman, the year long wait between 3 and 4 felt like an eternity to me. When I was in my late teens I came across Power Battle in one of those multi play arcade machines and until they were included in the 2004 series collection I thought it was just some kind of weird half remembered dream.
This is why I love your channel. I love Megaman but never even knew this existed.
I always look forward to your updates - never, stop, making, videos
I've actually seen an actual machine for this game at the arcade we have at the discount movie theater but of course lt was gone the last time I went. So needless to say when I heard they were going to be part of the mega man anniversary collection I didn't hesitate to pick it up and I enjoyed the heck out of this game and it's sequel.
I wish they were in the modern mega man legacy collections. I've played them on MAME but MAME is always a bit of a clunky thing to use, for me. I sometimes like the simplicity of just opening a game and using the controller I'm already holding with the right button combination already set up and stuff. I'm lazy, basically
Me I played it
platypusfox73 Certainly a better sight than the Sonic Fighters one I’ve seen at MAGFest...
Had the rare pleasure of discovering these without being aware of them previously when I unlocked them in the Megaman Collection when it came out back in 2004. Certainly helped ease the pain of the bad button mapping (which I don't think you could change, or at least I don't remember being able to). I think it was one of the first instances of a big retro collection of retro console games being released like this, so the flaws seemed excusable at the time, especially since the unlockable content was new games I'd never played.
It was my dream to own this game back when I was a kid, playing it in the Arcade felt soooo great
This game came out at the local arcade in the 90's and I remember dumping a ton of quarters into it cause it was so fun. Now I have both games on my custom Mame Arcade Cabinet and always come back to them once in a while.
Being able to play these was a major reason I got the anniversary collections at launch
I played those both on the MM Anniversary GCN collection. So awesome to have arcade games thrown in as extras, and these ones felt doubly special because they were Japanese only arcade games. I love stuff like that. I always felt like I was playing them wrong though. Like I'd just brute force through both games, but it always felt like there was some mechanic I was missing.
If you practice and pay attention to what the enemy does, you can eventually get better at this game. It's tough but fair. We had a great time playing it on stream last year, but couldn't beat it. I ended up trying again a few days later and then again a few more days later and was able to beat it. once you figure out the boss patterns, how/when to use the weapons and get familiar with the controls, it gets much easier.
Hell yeah more arcade game reviews!
Back when I was a teenager in the 2000s arcades were sadly becoming a thing of the past and disappearing almost everywhere, so it was around that time that I knew people who introduced me to arcade emulators (namely FinalBurn Alpha) on PC. I discovered a lot of games that never appeared on the machines we had around here, and this was one of them. Played it a lot around that time, and, weirdly, somehow I enjoyed it more than the traditional Megaman games. Hadn't played it since, though.
Thank you for providing what I have just watched and I hope you have a great day too, SNESdrunk ^ - ^
These games are awesome! They were also released together on the PS2 in Japan as Rockman: Power Battle Fighters.
I just love the way cut man entered the stage nice touch
This game also shows up in some arcade collection cabinets - I've worked a couple places with classic games cabinets that have 200+ games and this is a perfect game as it takes just about the length of a 15 minute break to beat !
I remember being on vacation as a kid in Myrtle Beach, SC and seeing this cabinet in the wild. I had no clue what it was, but I liked the mega man X games at the time (I was probably like 10, so this was 21 years ago) but I ended up pumping a lot of quarters into that bad boy.
I remember that game at the local arcade in a machine with multiple arcade titles in them. It was great. I wish I could have found a copy somewhere to purchase and own. Not an arcade cabinet though.
I loved this game as a teenager. The sprites in this game is one of the reasons why I got into bead art / pixel art.
Classic game. I used to play this alllll the time on the multicade in my condo building. This and the sequel. Good times.
Excellent work!
Ryan Shea agreed👿
To think that this game was released on the CPS1, the same board of SF2 and Final Fight.
Power Fighters was on CPS2 and TBH (considering other games on that board) it isn't as impressive
Both games are fun though
Before the Anniversary Collection, there was a PS2 port called Rockman Power Battle Fighters which was a separate Japan only release, and included both games. Also, there was a CPS2 release of this game with improved graphics and sound but that version stayed in Japan.
This was my introduction to Mega Man. An arcade cabinet at a church I played basketball at had this on it, and I ended up buying the Classic Collection for GameCube because this was on it. Then I played those (and MegaMan Zero 2) and there was no going back.
2:06
Each character has a special attack (release charge and hold up). MegaMan has the mega upper, bass has a flash kick and protoman does an uppercut but with his shield
Their eddie powerups are a little different as well
fun obscure fact: Power Battle was on CPS-1 hardware, but little-known is the fact that it had a slightly-enhanced port to the CPS-2 hardware of The Power Fighters. mostly you just get Power Fighters music and a good few more voice samples for the various bosses at a cleaner quality, but hey. this version was Japan-only, and can be found in the PS2 collection of both games
I used to play this all the time with my cousin back when I was a kid. To me, the bosses were the best part of Mega Man, and this game is quite literally just that. Gotta love it.
I'd love to see a new version of this. In 8-bit style. Every boss all in one game. But of course, there's always Mega Man Maker.
Mega Man Maker?
I need to google that.
Luckily for you, there is! There's a port of both games on the Neo Geo Pocket Color
I remember playing this on the megaman collection, so much time on this!
The mega man collections are one of the reasons I keep my ps2 hooked up.
I loved finding this game in arcade centers cause it was pretty rare like one machine in 10 arcarde centers, that rare.
Of course now you can play it "any way you can" XP (and I have cause they´re both awesome)
“That’s better than nothing” in any context in a megaman related video just triggers serious PTSD for me about a certain game I backed on Kickstarter....
I would just marathon 1-3, time to go beat the other entries for the first time in ages. Thanks for the heads up about the collection's extras.
I first saw this game in its arcade format back in the 90s at a pizza chain. Wasn't until years later I found out more about it. I love the video, but you might have added the fact that in many cases the older bosses have some new moves and abilities as well.
I remember hearing about these games for a little while and I think my friend and I emulated them back before we knew what they were.
Years later the first time I got to actually play these titles on a console with a controller was when the first Mega Man collection was made for PS2, they were unlockable bonus games I think maybe.
It's possible they were just there from the start, it's been a long time since I got to even see a PS2.
Either way, I always thought these were pretty neat games even though I was never that great playing them.
😄👍
This was my re-introduction to the series .Just found it last week Really like this game .
This is a gem. Love playing it for ému too bad never came across it in the arcades
A real couple of hidden gems this and its sequel, the power fighters. A really addictive and fun boss battle rush. Especially with two players. Just short and pretty easy but definitely worth checking out. The Neo Geo pocket colour version is also worth looking at, a mix up of the first and second, and like most neo geo handheld games is pretty impressive what they can do on that tiny screen
Cool, thanks. I didn't even know about that version
I was playing this game the day you released this video
I think can do special moves in both game or 2, either way great video man 😎
I once saw it on a random arcade machine in a Bar back in 1997... I freaked out because of it but my father don't alowed me to play because we were on our way to a wedding...
And I wasn't able to find it again for years!
one of my great frustrations as a gamer in the 90's...
Never played it, thanks for posting. Looks good...need to check it out.
I actually wish there were more 1v1 or tag style fighting games based around projectiles and dodging. What a fun twist, and as much as I love me some tekken, street fighter, and marvel va capcom. There are so many fighting games that are just more of the same and I feel like changing the focus to projectiles and dodging over melee and blocking could really make a fighting game stand out !
I first heard about this game way back in the mid 90's under its original name Rockman: Power Battle. I was probably 10. I had a friend who traveled to Utah I think for some boy scout camp thing, and told me he saw this "mega man arcade game" in a grocery store. But he kept calling it Rockman and I had no idea what he was talking about. I thought it was some bootleg counterfeit or something. The way he was explaining made it sound amazing, a Mega Man fighting game? Who wouldn't want that?? I came to find out many years later more about the game and that Rockman was just the Japanese name for Mega Man. I found a way of playing it and really enjoying it and the second game, Power Fighters. Its a fun nostalgic romp for any fan of the series.
The boss selection isn’t completely randomized; you can stop the spinner at any time before it automatically does (at least in anniversary collection port)
this is awesome! never heard of it.
Yuke Gaming me too 😎
Both of these wound up on the Neo-Geo Pocket Color as one cartridge for some reason. The graphics are obviously downscaled, but it's still Power Battle and Power Fighters; just on a handheld.
I have this megaman in My collection in PS2 and Gc , i miss this Game in the collection for PS4 and switch
I cant remember which one i saw it in, but I learned about this in a gaming magazine. Then years later I was so excited to play it on emulator lol
I remember playing these on the anniversary collection. I always thought they were a lot of fun. They're odd, but fun. I had always wished there was a 3rd game with some more characters, maybe focused on the X series. I always like that in Bass' ending in one of the games it implies that Wiley built Zero.
Sweet, I've never heard of this! Thanks Drunk!
Even cooler, this game was actually releases in US arcades as well. I remember playing it as a kid in some bar.
That game does look awesome! I haven't played much Megaman and I don't play fighting games often but this game does look cool
I remember seeing this in the Galloping Ghost arcade. I didn't play it though because I figured it just a standard fighting games. I wish I had checked it out now.
I'm sure you're not surprised to see me comment on this. Good video!
this would be an awesome concept to reboot: make it 100+ bosses with various route, 8 playable characters from the franchise, have not only weapon but armor upgrades for each character, have a wide variety of stages, give it multiplayer compatibility for co-op and vs. in various ways (speedrun, damage mode, etc)...
This game and the sequel are on the Gam Cube collection and I highly recommend it
Thanks for introducing those (to me) unknown arcade gems to us?
(These videos should be called "arcade drunk" XD ^^)
*I got the PS2 Collections just for these games*
They ported to the Neogeo Pocket Color about 20 years ago, too. Good luck finding it for less than $200, though.
Looks fun. Might try it at some point
I had this as part of the xbox Megaman anniversary collection. It was a fun game.
First played The Power Battle at a pizzeria way back in the very early 2000s and then got both it and The Power Fighters in the Mega Man Anniversary Collection years later. Love them both though I wish Power Fighters gave both players the boss weapon in co-op like in Power Battle. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Power Fighters next week.
Semi correction cause this might only be the case for the sequel but when you play co-op you do not both get the Robot Masters. Only one player gets a particular weapon and IIRC it's either based on who gets the last hit or you run into it after the boss dies.
You both can use the same weapon in this one, it's the 2nd one where only one player gets it
Can you review or link to an old review I may have missed on mega man legends for psx
Dear Drunk! (LOL) I have been a follower of your channel for a while, and really enjoy your videos. Looking at your list, I just watched your review of the Mega Man X series for the SNES. Could you review the remake for PSP? You can play it on Vita TV or any way you can ;-)
This game came as a bonus for the Mega Man Anniversary Collection on the PS2!
Theres also a handheld version of this on the Neo Geo Pocket Color.
I remeber playing this game at an arcade in Myrtle Beach SC and my brother thought I was so cool because I knew most of the characters and bosses from playing the legacy collection on gamecube
Always wish they did more w/ this and eventually made an X one. I seriously feel like cool updates to older formulas like this and further improvements and ironing out with more entries could've helped keep the arcade alive a bit longer int he west, and given fans something to get together on Friday afternoons and geek out about.. but c'est la vie.
Played through 'em both on the PS2. Good stuff.
So, ICE- / FREEZEman's theme still sounds COOL, huh?
I see what you did there :D
The Neo Geo Pocket Color has a similar Mega Man fighting game which is also awesome :))
Keep up the great vids man.
I know there's a really cool Mega Man Kart racing game series, though I think they were also on the PSX.
I had this on the megaman anniversary collection thing on ps2 and it was cool. I had never heard of it
This game is really fun, 90s Capcom I love you
Hey SNES drunk, maybe you already know or maybe you won't care that much but the Super Famicom games Ganbare Goemon 2 AND Ganbare Goemon 3 now have a full english patch available!! (I've been waiting 20 years for this!)
Thanks! Now to the main topic: Goemon 2 & 3 review soon? ;)
My local water park used to have this in its arcade, I put a few dozen dollars into it in my youth
