It's amazing how Cassandra Clare's books just keep getting better and better...Like when you look at Lady Midnight then City of Bones it's like...She has made a huge step-up...It's just amazing. And the cover is gorgeous too xD I might, I'm tempted to say I love this book more than City of Bones and Clockwork Angel...
I agree that whenever I read bits about previous characters, like Simon, Clary, or Izzy, I love how it feels so seamless and natural. But yeah, when I read the twist I was like YES! I been thinking why this a rule and now we can get a series about it!
This book broke my heart into a million piece and it's only book 1! What's Lord of Shadows going to do to me?! I'm not ready!! I'm so mad at Emma, why does she have to do this. My poor Julian's heart is going to be shredded to pieces I just want to jump into TDA an give him the biggest hug and tell him everything will be okay but I don't know of anything will be okay. Especially since cassie said TDA will be more heartbreaking than TID!

I'm just scared Emma is going to drive a wedge between Mark and Julian you're right, it's actually going to kill Julian so much. And it's so unnecessary. That 'why lie?' I had two emotions. First I was like 'WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHY LIE YOU IDIOT MARK BLACKTHORN!' However, I was also like '... That was smooth Mark.'
I believe there is a connection in the story from Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy about James (Will and Tessa's son) and Christopher (Henry and Charlotte's son) relating to TiBerius. More so Ty and James. It was discovered that James had a unique power and I believe Ty has the same power that just hasn't been discovered. Let me know what you think !! :)
I finished Lady Midnight and practically came here straight away. I actually didn't read Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy before this. I do plan on reading them pretty much right away though. I wonder if I would have liked LM better having read them first. I kind of figured out the Alec and Magnus and Clary and Simon plot points beforehand though because of hints Cassie dropped through twitter. Cassie Clare NEVER writes the same thing twice! LM blew me away! I need the next book right now oh my god. I totally didn't put the whole Nightshade thing together!!! But oh my god that makes so much sense! I adore Ty as a character so much. I feel like he is so well written and I can just really get into his head. Props to Cassie for his character! I didn't figure out the whole reason behind why parabatai can't fall in love. Well not in a obvious reason. I knew already that they had a stronger bond, and I thought that the closeness between Julian and Emma was a huge factor. But when Jem said the reason why, my heart shattered. To love is to destroy...it seems so much more potent in this sense. THE SEX SCENE OH MY GOD. I usually prefer a slow build, but Cassie really made me realize how much I needed that scene from them! It was so full of emotion and there was really no other way it could have gone. All of the sexual and emotional tension that had been building up prior to that scene could not have been let out in just a heated make out session. And of course hearts needed to shatter right after. THE STUDIO SCENE AGH MY HEART. For some reason I was not surprised that Julian had been running the Institute then entire time. Like Emma said, "We didn't know....but we knew". It was just one of those things that wasn't said explicitly, but I just knew it was happening. Julian is now my favorite character. MALCOLM FADE MORE LIKE MALCOLM SHADEY AF AM I RIGHT?! I knew The Lost Herondale must have played a part in that!! Alright, I'm going to get those novellas like immediately so I can get in on this knowledge I didn't have! THE LAST SCENE OH MY GOD. I can't handle her and Mark I just can not. WHY LIE?! And he closes the door?!?! AGH AND EMMA!!! Anabel WAS revived! The epilogue showed us that! Something must happen with that! At this point I think I'm going to read the Shadowhunter Academy and then reread LM lol. I loved it so freaking much.
I wasn't a huge fan of Emma and Julian in CoHF either because I wanted to read from the other characters but I loved them in Lady Midnight! I love the characters so much! I felt so happy whenever references are made too! I love how Cassandra Clare can do so much with the Shadowhunter world! SPOILERS. I didn't expect Mark to be in book one too! I'm loving your theories! The big plot twist... DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. And then THE END WITH WHAT EMMA DID. OMGGGG. So much heartbreak just happened right there and will continue to happen throughout the trilogy. Fake dating is one thing but Mark and Emma becoming an actual couple and falling in love omgomgomgomgnononononono.

I don't think it's possible for anyone to hate this book. it was absolutely amazing. my heart is breaking for Julian even though emma is doing the selfless thing I kind if want her to be selfish. and I was really shipping mark and Cristina. the whole plot twist at the end...mind blowing. I spent half the book thinking it was Diana I never once considered malcolm. I think in Lord of shadows they're probably going to deal with anable Blackthorn considering she woke up.

that's what makes cassandra's books awesome. All of the characters have their own story and you love them all separately. They are ALL protagonists. That's what I live about her books. Also I also LOVED the fact that she was mentioning the previous characters from TIM and TID and OMG! When Tessa and Jem appeared I started crying. Also, I love Mark very much and I ship him with Christina AND Kieran.Emma is officiallymy favourite female character! Also, love your videos, they are amazing.
I started getting suspicious of Malcolm when these two scenes were put together, when Emma and Julian go to visit Malcolm and he is meeting with those two Hollywood guys and he said how people will sometimes come to them for help making their movies and things successful. And then when we heard that the guardian would grant any thing they want and would give them charms or whatever and when those two scenes were put together in my head I was like what if Malcolm is the guardian but then I was like no way that can't be because Malcolm is good and he comes over for pizza and he drove the followers away with the fire at the institute so it couldn't possibly be him but in the back of my mind I was like but what if it is. Ugh such a fantastic plot and I'm so excited to see where this series because unlike the other two series, at the moment there isn't this super defined villain. Like there's lots of unresolved conflicts and plots but not a valentine, Sebastian, or mortmain per say.

SPOILER WARNING Emma you were wondering about what the plot will be now that Malcolm's dead. I don't know if you didn't read the epilogue or you forgot but in the epilogue it's like half a page where Annabel wakes up so I think that will probably have something to do with the next books.

I may never read Tessa s series but I READ TMI 4-6 to be able to read Lady Midnight so it worth every minute and I m also a fan of poem Annabelle Lee (the only poem I ever loved) for years and this book felt like love letter for Annabelle Lee coz it's awesome but Julian and Emma made me crazy at every thing they ever talked or done anything else

Will they seriously go mad?) then We have Mark. WHO SORT OF HAS 3 LOVE INTERESTS: Cristina, Kieran (who wasn't very nice, but then saved all their assed and so I'm confused) and now also Emma. And then Cristina also had Diego who betrayed her, but not really, but still?? But it kinda looks like she is forgiving him. (??) Now I don't think Mark really feels something for Emma though. He's just a confused puppy who's heart is been broken by both Kieran and Cristina. But still, like, what do you mean love TRIANGLE. This is much more complex XD. And then we also have Ty and Kit who I ship. Their ship name is Kitty. People who don't see it; fight me. I loved all the relationships in this books (as in friendship, family and such) it was all so pure and wonderful. I love everyone. Everyone loves each other. SO MUCH LOVE. MA HART MA SOLE. I just. There's so much to say about this wonderful book, but I literally just finished it so my thoughts are all over the place. (And I'm still hurt over Malcolms betrayal, THEY LOVED HIM. AND HE JUST ALWAYS HATED HIM.) Also, it hurts me that right now I can't imagine a happy ending for Emma and Jules if what Jem said is true. I just. Imma cry for a few hours bye. but isn't there some bit about for parabatais who are in love with each other, the deeper the love goes, the stronger the bond and their power gets which eventually will make them crazy and make them hurt people around them? i think it was jem who said it when he was talking to emma after malcolm died? i thought this was the real reason why emma decided that she had to break julian's heart. because she doesn't want him or her hurting people they love and julian doesn't know this so she had to be the one to push him away

The Annabel tragedy, the Tobias Herondale tragedy and many more are in Clave approved children's literature! Emma, please please please do not hate me but...I kinda read Lady Midnight first and I liked it a lot. I thought it was good. I think I'll like it even better since I'm reading the earlier books and it will fill in some holes. I did love Emma. She's my favorite Cassandra Clare female lead. She gave me Isabelle Lightwood/Katiniss Everdeen feels. And I love love love love the bond she has with Julian. It reminds me of Will and Jem's bond, but deeper. And I ship Mark and Kieran together. I love them so. Even though what Kieran did was horrible, I think...people have done crazy stuff in the name of love. And I love them together. I mean, I love Cristina. She's awesome but I see her and Mark as great best friends. What about you? What do you think?

Noooooo Stop Mark.... A theory for LoS: For the ritual that Malcolm had to do to bring Annabelle back to life, Blackthorn blood had to be shed. And in Lady Midnight, Malcolm sent that note that made the room explode and then Ty cut his leg, maybe that was the Blackthorn blood that had to be shed because the explosion was caused by Malcolm and Cassandra Clare never specified how or where the blood had to be shed....

Annabelle woke up in the epilogue so I assumed that she was going to be the new villain, I mean, why else where there be a special scene for it at the very end where she opens her eyes?

YES EMMA THE NIGHTSHADE THING. I noticed it was a compound name too, and I got super suspicious. And oh my God this book was not good for my stress levels...it was so intense and mind blowing and the love triangle/mess/thing is freaking me out...and the "why lie?" line made me VERY uncomfortable. Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who started rereading it right after I finished it xD
I know I already asked another question but do you think that Kit could possibly be what Tessa is (Shadowhunter/Warlock). We haven't heard of Kit's mother, which could be a demon, and there wasn't any runes that we know that were on Johnny Rook. That's why I think it says unknown on Kit's "species".

I am so genially surprised by Mark. I did not expect to like him at all, and he ended up loving him and I loved all of his comic relief lines, and the kitchen scene ❤️
Just finished Lady Midnight this afternoon and it was absolutely amazing!!! I can't wait to see where this series goes, even though I agree with you that it'll probably be heartbreaking. Loved your review and agree with everything you said. One of my favorite scenes which I haven't really noticed anyone else talking about was when Julian finally got through to Mark after he returned, when he realized that they weren't just in his mind as another form of torture. I totally lost it at that point. Ugh, I need the next book to come out now because I need to know what happens next ... it was SO good!

Hi Emma, I just finished Shadowhunter Academy and I want desperately to read this book. Now, I commented in another of your videos that I read Clockwork Angel, started Clockwork Prince and never read Clockwork Princess, because I didn't like them. Still I know what Tessa is, I know who she ends up with, I know what happened to Jem. Now that that's been said, I told you I want to give TID another try and you said I should do it. Do I absolutely need to read it before this book? Because this book is calling me and I didn't read it before because I was reading Shadowhunter Academy. And I just don't want to read 3 more books so I could read this one unless it's absolutely necessary. So what do you think? At this point I feel I would dislike TID even more because I'm gonna be constantly thinking about Lady Midnight... Sorry for the long comment.
i wouldn't say you NEED to, but it definitely adds to the story and will help you make more sense of things!! the great thing about cassie clare books is despite minor spoilers and a little confusion, you can totally read other series without reading the previous ones. you'll be a little confused and might be like "awh damn i wish i saw that unfold in the actual books" but you can make it work!!
I have a theory that In the second book Emma and marks fake relationship won't as so much ruin Julian as everyone thinks it will, I also think once whatever main problem is solved in the second book with Annabel that Emma's/ julians relationship will start to spark up in the third book and I believe that maybe that just because Emma decides not to physically be with Julian that it still won't stop the love from growing & my thought right now Is that Emma thinks that if she tries hurt Julian that it will stop him from loving her and that way their parabatai forbidden love magic won't happen. But what if since the love they feel for each other wont end the bond will just continue to grow even more and I think that maybe their love will ruin everything and the clave will be so afraid & they won't know how to stop it and maybe that's the devastating ending the third book will end with is that their parabatai love will ruin everything and not some villain. and something horrible will happen

I should know because I looked it up and I think that was really brave of Cassie to write a character like him since I have been in Special needs classes ever since fifth grade. First off, I know I'm really late to the game. Lol I wait till I get all the books in a series before reading them. I have a few things... 1. I did, about half way through the book, guess that it was malcolm. Lol it was pretty obvious in the poem and how he was very misleading. 2. In the beginning of the book when kit is describing the people in the market, he describes seeing jem and tessa. Seeing a boy with dark hair with a streak of silver and a young girl with brown hair walking by. My first thought was jem and tessa 2. At the end of the epilogue, Johnny Rooke tells kit that he is his greatest secret. And the way Johnny panicks when Emma and Cameron come to the booth? I feel like kit has a mix of downworlder and shadow hunter in him. When in, book 2, kit flashes back to him asking his father who his mom was. Johnny just shrugs and says, she left after he was born. Aaaand, even mark and julian wonder, mentally, who kit's mom is. It may be Fay-warlock-shadowhunter. Because Clary didn't have those sudden instinctual, reactions when she was fighting. And kit did! Idk what his father tought him, but the boy had no muscle and in book 2, he even looks at his stomach and compares himself to julian and Jace. Saying, he has a flat, no ab stomach. Lol 3. Isn't there a short story called shadow something in the academy book with simone and catarina loss. How he is told about james herendale has his mothers gift of being a warlock? Maybe it was passed down but stayed dormant until it was mixed with dna from another downworlder?🤔 Something to definitely look out for.

OMG, I love Lady Midnight!!! Some of the things you mentioned was some of the things I was thinking about, too. You mention about Mark and Emma fake dating. When I read Lady Midnight, I got the vibe that Mark liked Emma. Idk I think it might have been just me, but I totally agree with you about how could she do that to Jules. I am glad I have found someone who loves the books as much as me. Where I'm from there isn't anyone that I could talk about these books and get all excited about. I am super stoked for the second book and impatiently counting the days.

AHHHH I LOVED LADY MIDNIGHT SO MUCH!!! (SPOILERS AHEAD) Did you have the epilogue in your ARC? I'm assuming not, but it's called "Annabel" and the last line reads "In her tomb by the sounding sea, Annabel's eyes opened." So I'm also assuming that the rest of the series will be dealing with those repercussions? I can't wait for more people to read this, it was so amazing and blew my mind!!

I finished Lady Midnight and practically came here straight away. I actually didn't read Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy before this. I do plan on reading them pretty much right away though. I wonder if I would have liked LM better having read them first. I kind of figured out the Alec and Magnus and Clary and Simon plot points beforehand though because of hints Cassie dropped through twitter.
Cassie Clare NEVER writes the same thing twice! LM blew me away! I need the next book right now oh my god.

I adore Ty as a character so much. I feel like he is so well written and I can just really get into his head. Props to Cassie for his character!
I didn't figure out the whole reason behind why parabatai can't fall in love. Well not in a obvious reason. I knew already that they had a stronger bond, and I thought that the closeness between Julian and Emma was a huge factor. But when Jem said the reason why, my heart shattered. To love is to destroy...it seems so much more potent in this sense.
THE SEX SCENE OH MY GOD. I usually prefer a slow build, but Cassie really made me realize how much I needed that scene from them! It was so full of emotion and there was really no other way it could have gone. All of the sexual and emotional tension that had been building up prior to that scene could not have been let out in just a heated make out session. And of course hearts needed to shatter right after.
THE STUDIO SCENE AGH MY HEART.
For some reason I was not surprised that Julian had been running the Institute then entire time. Like Emma said, "We didn't know....but we knew". It was just one of those things that wasn't said explicitly, but I just knew it was happening. Julian is now my favorite character.

I wasn't a huge fan of Emma and Julian in CoHF either because I wanted to read from the other characters but I loved them in Lady Midnight! I love the characters so much! I felt so happy whenever references are made too! I love how Cassandra Clare can do so much with the Shadowhunter world!

I didn't expect Mark to be in book one too! I'm loving your theories! The big plot twist... DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. And then THE END WITH WHAT EMMA DID. OMGGGG. So much heartbreak just happened right there and will continue to happen throughout the trilogy. Fake dating is one thing but Mark and Emma becoming an actual couple and falling in love omgomgomgomgnononononono.

Also I also LOVED the fact that she was mentioning the previous characters from TIM and TID and OMG! When Tessa and Jem appeared I started crying. I AM IN LOVE WITH JULIAN BLACKTHORN. He is one of my favorite characters ever.
I started getting suspicious of Malcolm when these two scenes were put together, when Emma and Julian go to visit Malcolm and he is meeting with those two Hollywood guys and he said how people will sometimes come to them for help making their movies and things successful. And then when we heard that the guardian would grant any thing they want and would give them charms or whatever and when those two scenes were put together in my head I was like what if Malcolm is the guardian but then I was like no way that can't be because Malcolm is good and he comes over for pizza and he drove the followers away with the fire at the institute so it couldn't possibly be him but in the back of my mind I was like but what if it is. Ugh such a fantastic plot and I'm so excited to see where this series because unlike the other two series, at the moment there isn't this super defined villain. Like there's lots of unresolved conflicts and plots but not a valentine, Sebastian, or mortmain per say.

I just, Cassie knows how to make you feel things. And the love story in this book is so complex.
Basically we have Emma and Jules who can't be together because they will become to powerfull and their power will drive them to absolute madness. (??) (according to Jem) (But like? Will they seriously go mad?) then We have Mark. WHO SORT OF HAS 3 LOVE INTERESTS: Cristina, Kieran (who wasn't very nice, but then saved all their assed and so I'm confused) and now also Emma.
And then Cristina also had Diego who betrayed her, but not really, but still?? But it kinda looks like she is forgiving him. (??)
Now I don't think Mark really feels something for Emma though. He's just a confused puppy who's heart is been broken by both Kieran and Cristina.
But still, like, what do you mean love TRIANGLE. This is much more complex XD.
And then we also have Ty and Kit who I ship. Their ship name is Kitty. People who don't see it; fight me.
I loved all the relationships in this books (as in friendship, family and such) it was all so pure and wonderful. I love everyone. Everyone loves each other. SO MUCH LOVE. MA HART MA SOLE.
I just. There's so much to say about this wonderful book, but I literally just finished it so my thoughts are all over the place.
(And I'm still hurt over Malcolms betrayal, THEY LOVED HIM. AND HE JUST ALWAYS HATED HIM.)
Also, it hurts me that right now I can't imagine a happy ending for Emma and Jules if what Jem said is true. I just. Imma cry for a few hours bye.

Emma, please please please do not hate me but...I kinda read Lady Midnight first and I liked it a lot. I thought it was good. I think I'll like it even better since I'm reading the earlier books and it will fill in some holes.
I did love Emma. She's my favorite Cassandra Clare female lead. She gave me Isabelle Lightwood/Katiniss Everdeen feels. And I love love love love the bond she has with Julian. It reminds me of Will and Jem's bond, but deeper.
And I ship Mark and Kieran together. I love them so. Even though what Kieran did was horrible, I think...people have done crazy stuff in the name of love. And I love them together. I mean, I love Cristina. She's awesome but I see her and Mark as great best friends. What about you? What do you think?

A theory for LoS:
For the ritual that Malcolm had to do to bring Annabelle back to life, Blackthorn blood had to be shed. And in Lady Midnight, Malcolm sent that note that made the room explode and then Ty cut his leg, maybe that was the Blackthorn blood that had to be shed because the explosion was caused by Malcolm and Cassandra Clare never specified how or where the blood had to be shed....
I actually guessed that it maybe was Malcolm Fade. I didn't know why he would do it, but I guessed it.

YES EMMA THE NIGHTSHADE THING. I noticed it was a compound name too, and I got super suspicious. And oh my God this book was not good for my stress levels...it was so intense and mind blowing and the love triangle/mess/thing is freaking me out...and the "why lie?" line made me VERY uncomfortable. Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who started rereading it right after I finished it xD
I know I already asked another question but do you think that Kit could possibly be what Tessa is (Shadowhunter/Warlock). We haven't heard of Kit's mother, which could be a demon, and there wasn't any runes that we know that were on Johnny Rook. That's why I think it says unknown on Kit's "species".

Just finished Lady Midnight this afternoon and it was absolutely amazing!!! I can't wait to see where this series goes, even though I agree with you that it'll probably be heartbreaking. Loved your review and agree with everything you said. One of my favorite scenes which I haven't really noticed anyone else talking about was when Julian finally got through to Mark after he returned, when he realized that they weren't just in his mind as another form of torture. I totally lost it at that point. Ugh, I need the next book to come out now because I need to know what happens next ... it was SO good!

Hi Emma, I just finished Shadowhunter Academy and I want desperately to read this book. Now, I commented in another of your videos that I read Clockwork Angel, started Clockwork Prince and never read Clockwork Princess, because I didn't like them. Still I know what Tessa is, I know who she ends up with, I know what happened to Jem. Now that that's been said, I told you I want to give TID another try and you said I should do it. Do I absolutely need to read it before this book? Because this book is calling me and I didn't read it before because I was reading Shadowhunter Academy. And I just don't want to read 3 more books so I could read this one unless it's absolutely necessary. So what do you think? At this point I feel I would dislike TID even more because I'm gonna be constantly thinking about Lady Midnight... Sorry for the long comment.

the great thing about cassie clare books is despite minor spoilers and a little confusion, you can totally read other series without reading the previous ones. you'll be a little confused and might be like "awh damn i wish i saw that unfold in the actual books" but you can make it work!!

I have a theory that In the second book Emma and marks fake relationship won't as so much ruin Julian as everyone thinks it will, I also think once whatever main problem is solved in the second book with Annabel that Emma's/ julians relationship will start to spark up in the third book and I believe that maybe that just because Emma decides not to physically be with Julian that it still won't stop the love from growing & my thought right now Is that Emma thinks that if she tries hurt Julian that it will stop him from loving her and that way their parabatai forbidden love magic won't happen. But what if since the love they feel for each other wont end the bond will just continue to grow even more and I think that maybe their love will ruin everything and the clave will be so afraid & they won't know how to stop it and maybe that's the devastating ending the third book will end with is that their parabatai love will ruin everything and not some villain. and something horrible will happen

I got spoiled about who killed Emma's parents when I was on page 450 but it gave me chance to appreciate the clues and I didn't cry but sometimes I had tears in my eyes and I rarely cry so I'm not ready for book 2 but at the same time I need book 2 rn!

First off, I know I'm really late to the game. Lol I wait till I get all the books in a series before reading them.
I have a few things...
1. I did, about half way through the book, guess that it was malcolm. Lol it was pretty obvious in the poem and how he was very misleading.
2. In the beginning of the book when kit is describing the people in the market, he describes seeing jem and tessa. Seeing a boy with dark hair with a streak of silver and a young girl with brown hair walking by. My first thought was jem and tessa
2. At the end of the epilogue, Johnny Rooke tells kit that he is his greatest secret. And the way Johnny panicks when Emma and Cameron come to the booth? I feel like kit has a mix of downworlder and shadow hunter in him.
When in, book 2, kit flashes back to him asking his father who his mom was. Johnny just shrugs and says, she left after he was born. Aaaand, even mark and julian wonder, mentally, who kit's mom is.
It may be Fay-warlock-shadowhunter. Because Clary didn't have those sudden instinctual, reactions when she was fighting. And kit did!
Idk what his father tought him, but the boy had no muscle and in book 2, he even looks at his stomach and compares himself to julian and Jace. Saying, he has a flat, no ab stomach. Lol
3. I am halfway through book 2 and can already see that he is going to be a bit of a surprise and something Jace and julian will die to protect!
I'm sure there is more I have in my head about all of this, but I will wait till I am done with Lord of shadows, to watch your review on that....umm. something just came to me.
Isn't there a short story called shadow something in the academy book with simone and catarina loss. How he is told about james herendale has his mothers gift of being a warlock? Maybe it was passed down but stayed dormant until it was mixed with dna from another downworlder?🤔

OMG, I love Lady Midnight!!! Some of the things you mentioned was some of the things I was thinking about, too. You mention about Mark and Emma fake dating. When I read Lady Midnight, I got the vibe that Mark liked Emma. Idk I think it might have been just me, but I totally agree with you about how could she do that to Jules. I am glad I have found someone who loves the books as much as me. Where I'm from there isn't anyone that I could talk about these books and get all excited about. I am super stoked for the second book and impatiently counting the days.

AHHHH I LOVED LADY MIDNIGHT SO MUCH!!! (SPOILERS AHEAD) Did you have the epilogue in your ARC? I'm assuming not, but it's called "Annabel" and the last line reads "In her tomb by the sounding sea, Annabel's eyes opened." So I'm also assuming that the rest of the series will be dealing with those repercussions? I can't wait for more people to read this, it was so amazing and blew my mind!!
