    Wow what a find! I would of fixed it the same way you did. It amazes me how we now live in a throw away world. It boggles my mind how some people give up on trying to see what is wrong with their equipment and go out and buy a new one. Thank you for being one of those people that like to save and repair things before throwing it in the junk yard.

    Fantastic find and great fix. Hammer size seems appropriate to me. I might have tried to use a punch or rounded body dent tool if I had one. But your process worked and you did not need to purchase something that you might never use again. Great job. Will be a good mower once again. Thanks for the videos.

    No problem beating it with the hammer but if I'd started with the bottle jack, knowing how single minded I can be, I'd have probably continued with it until success or at least far longer than you did.

    I’ve done this exact fix on my mower twice now😂 but on the third time a weld came undone at the front of the deck so when going forward it would get pushed into the blade. Had to bolt it back😂 still works and still makes me money😂 mower is a Gardencare LM565P

    The top of your bottle jack is threaded and you can unscrew it to give it a longer reach. I love the idea of using the jack to push the dent out. I sometimes use pipe wrenches and or adjustable wrenches to pull on bent parts and I love my 1.5 pound dead blow hammer for percussive maintenance like what you had to do. I remember when we had an old Craftsman mower. (not sure the model) It was always left out in the sun, and was pretty abused. I still have nightmares trying to start that thing up, I remember having to literally break my back over attempting to start it 10 times in a row before finally kicking off and then whenever I mow over slightly more than it can handle it would stall and it would take another 10 pulls to start it. We have a newer mower these days, and whenever I start it I'm always very grateful that I don't have to live through that again. I was 13 when I had to use the old Craftsman btw.
    Amazing video though, I love seeing you restore these things

    I know Briggs get a bad wrap but I’ve got the same series engine on 3 snappers. They are the commercial 8.75 with screw in filter but almost identical builds and I’ve got 5 years on all of them of hard work and never a single problem. The design on the 8.75 is best for services as well you can disassemble most of the engine with three bolts. I love snapper mowers this one isn’t a real snapper but the real ones are built like tanks even since Briggs took over. I make custom blades and run doubles on all my snapper ninja mower they have output like a small rider mower and cut better then plastic Hondas not to mention they are bullet proof. I can take apart the entire mower with a 1/2 and 9/16 socket and parts are interchangeable with mowers made by snapper 30+ years ago. I’ve turned all my ninja mowers into electric start using the starter and ignition from the hi-vac models the only difference from original snapper is new starter assembly everything else is a direct fit.

    A few wacks with the hammer and $100.00 later LOL. Great find & fix. I do not see anything wrong using the hammer in this repair. If you wanted to use the jack you could extend the top of it. If you are concerned about denting it out, next time place it in a bed of sand then get the hammer!

    Don't know if I am more impressed with your bent deck catch or the accuracy of your hammer blows! I'm pretty sure that was a Walmart offering back in '17 as the retailer was trying to trade off the once-stellar Snapper name. But it's not your grandad's Snapper as evidenced (and as you observed) by that thin metal deck, among other shortcuts in order to bring it in at a Walmart lower price. Still, it's decent and ought to give the next owner several more mowing years.

    The hammer was the correct tool but you should have used the wood in between to soften the blows and make it less denty.
    The trouble with laying a mower over towards the carb is not just the petrol but the crankcase breather which tends to dump the contents of the sump into either the carb or the air filter.

  • @brucecoleman7412
    @brucecoleman7412 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only problem with using a bottle jack is that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that there is a good possibility that you would damage the other side of the deck in the opposite direction. Instead of pounding the curved deck with a flat headed hammer, use something that has a radius to it against the deck and pound on that. You can get some cheap body working tools at HF that might ease your life.

      in production is pretty significant. I produce videos on this channel and on my other channel and have a full time job on top of that. So the extra time counts.

    I have a nasty habit of letting my grass get super tall because I tend to work a lot of overtime. I also tend to forget where all the rocks are roots in my yard are till I find them with the mower. Typically bends the inner deck on my Craftsman. I use a big crescent wrench to fix it

    Have a question for you and the viewers.. I have a craftsman ready start pressure washer with a briggs engine that will only start with carb spray. Once started the thing runs great! Shut it off and try and restart and it wont happen. I pulled the bowl and cleaned out some gelled fuel and also cleaned the bowl nut (jet). I have confirmed the thermostatic choke mechanism is working properly as well. I pulled the air cleaner assembly and the gasket looks sketchy at best. Is it possible that its the gasket on the air cleaner box is allowing too much air to suck fuel at start up as there is no primer on this machine.? I'm trying to put off pulling the carb unless i have too. I was thinkin on doubling up on that air cleaner box gasket but I dont wanna throw good money after bad. Thoughts?

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      no the gasket on the air cleaner is not that important when it comes to the carbs function. I would replace the O-ring, between the carb and engine. see if it's better. The other thing would be a bowl gasket that's leaking air into the carb.

    I’ve got a good question I have a antique push mower around 1950 cooper cyclone with a briggs i got it last year at a tractor show got spark back put gas in it it ran good but it leaked a lot of gas I got it out of storage and it wouldn’t run at all so I cleaned the carburetor and made a new gasket. the only way it will run is with full coke and it takes a lot of pulls to get it to stay running more than a few seconds any idea of what is wrong with it

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would first confirm what the compression read is, and then more than likely the carb needs to be replace but I'm sure it will be difficult to find.

    At what point did you think, "Holy crap I just stole a lawn mower?" It is in great shape. Don't get finds like that where I live. Depending on time, I might have tried to use a rounded piece of pipe to mimic the curve of the deck like Fitzee's Fabrications. If not, I'd slug it.

Great I propped it up (not on it side ) just to see if the new blade would turn freely.. however I turned the blade in the opposite direction.. Now the engine is locked up. I cannot pull it in the right direction an the pulley to start is locked up also .What are my choices now ????
