Conclusive proof that Spanners ditches the Missed Apex gear and moonlights as a used car salesman when he leaves the podcasting shed 😄 Great show, gents 👍
Thank you for this. Looks and sounds (I guess Trumpets' mic didn't work) great. Btw, in that interview in which Newey said he's like to work with Alonso, he also names Hamilton in this same context. Further. Aston Martin the F1 team is not the same als Aston Martin the roadcar manufacturer, and the roadcar manufacturer is running the Le Mans-effort with Prodrive. So Newey to Aston Martin, it would be to a completely different organization. And yes, Stroll has a lot of shares in the roadcar company and is the CEO, but this doesn't make it so that the privately owned F1 team falls under Aston Martin. Btw, Autosport interestingly enough published the news that Newey ruled Aston Martin out. But I guess that could be the F1 team and not the roadcar company. Joe's mentioning Bernard Dudot was interesting. Philippe Benett is the other one people should remember.
Great show as always☺️☺️ The Leyton House was Turquoise and yes Capelli led the 1990 French Grand Prix. The 2013 Red Bull was a Renault. Losing Monaco would be a complete disaster. As to people watching. There aren’t as many people watching F1 as there used to be because it wasn’t on Pay TV back in the day.
I really enjoy all three of these lads and their different approaches to unpacking F1. You never know what is actually going on inside the bubble, so this just my view from the outside and listening to them every week for years. As a trade journalist and regular panel host in my industry I also completely understand how difficult Spanner's job is and the competing pressures of keeping expert guests coming back. Spanners plays the fool, and I love that he says what everyone is thinking, but he is a very intelligent and canny interviewer and pundit that understands the casual fan, or the less obsessed fan, needs things explaining in less complex terms and likes intrigue, gossip and speculation. I also really like that he doesn't take himself too seriously and can take a joke. Joe is an F1 encyclopedia, confrontational, brash and his lack of any patience with those he deems less well-informed makes me smile. He is used to being centre stage and the most knowledgeable in a room and will defend that position to the hilt. I have read his content for decades and was very happy when he teamed up with MA and could speak to a different/wider audience. Trumpets is also well-informed (and perhaps more so on the technical side in some areas) and is able to make the complex accessible to a wider audience that enjoy the tech side but aren't engineers - including me, and I really enjoy his gentle and logical approach. Joe and Spanners work well together, as the rolling and managed antagonism makes for interesting and sometimes hilarious listening. But when Trumpets is added into the mix, I think Spanners just needs to have his lad's back more and support his role and time to speak. Joe just kept cutting him short and talking over him. That is Joe, and he doesn't need to or will ever change. But Trumpets is a lovely and polite bloke and needs Spanners as the anchor to create a space for him to talk and defend it if they do this again. He wasn't able to make any meaningful contributions in this episode. There was an episode recently with Brad Philpot where the banter wandered for moments into what I perceived from the outside as borderline bullying of Trumpets and, its just my own perception, that Spanners went too far in jumping on the pile on. I am self-confessed a white knight though and fought bullies throughout school - so I could be talking overs sensitive nonesense - without knowing their personal dynamic behind the scenes.
Spanners is right, every competitive (even non competitive sessions, like 8hrs a day of pre-season testing) needs to be watched! When I'm not home on saturday, I cannot watch qualifying before I see the entire FP3 first...
Already listened on Spotify. Over to check the visuals. I imagined a tree filled atrium with efficient and attractive hotel staff offering a continuous supply of drinks and nibbles. Mmmm. What looks like an office cubicle and a stack of chairs. F1 glamour chaps, F1 glamour... 😀
I really hope Newey doesnt go to Aston Martin. All of Joe's points make perfect sense, but I really don't want Lawrence Stroll to have the success Adrian Newey could bring.
newey won't go to Aston Martin. there have already been reports of newey rejecting Aston Martin and saward is misinformed about Red Bull and Adrian's involvement in the valkyrie and Valhalla
I always tune in to listen to Joe, he's always a breath of fresh air listening to someone who speaks from a well informed position and somehow I feel validated with my instincts aligning with what he said concerning the Newey Redbull Max situation. It's always a nice filter from all the media noise.
If he is right, and I certainly wouldn’t argue with him, where is all this going to leave Andretti. If it’s becoming a harder “NO” where does that leave it…..Maybe, possibly, let’s try for 2028?
I have been an F1 obsessive since the late 80's, the last 2 years I have cared less and less about missing races and definitely don't feel the need to watch the sprint races.
Joe is wrong about NASCAR there has been a lot of studies and polls that show NASCAR has one of the youngest growing fan bases among the major sports in North America obviously behind NFL but ahead of the rest
22:52 I dont agree with saward on newey to Aston Martin. for one there are reports newey is not interested in Aston Martin at all because of Lawrence's overbearing presence. secondly, saward should see the checkered history of "adrian's" valkyrie project with Aston Martin. tl;dr. the car was originally codenamed project nebula since there was a Swiss dealership that approached Aston Martin with the idea to build the hypercar. the idea was tossed around Aston Martin like a hot potato due to the revolving door of ceos they had and that dealership is currently being sued by Aston Martin; additionally Red Bull applied technologies stopped working on valkyrie very early in the project. newey drove valkyrie at good wood and it broke down numerous times and he said on camera it still needed work. thats why Red Bull were making the rb17 road car and even that looks like it won't be finished properly due to Adrian's sudden departure. I also find it interesting that saward mentioned that newey wanted to work with Alonso but conveniently left out the part that he regretted not working with ferrari and sir lewis Hamilton in that very same beyond the grid interview
So great to see Spanners and Matt. I listen to every MAP episode and will continue to but I always find Saward hard to listen to. He always strikes me as bitter and pompous. His style comes across as “I’ll talk, you listen”. There’s also always an aggravated tone to his discourse when others try to interject with questions or, God forbid, an opinion (which he always disagrees with). You can tell he’s tried to interview Newey and has been rebuffed. My dislike of him started when I heard him do a hack job on Zak Brown’s reputation, which was obviously incorrect and so unwarranted. Just my opinion though… Appreciate you guys bringing us content in Miami.
Great to see you guys together physically doing the podcast 😊.

Nice set! The stack of chairs next to Joe is very imaginative!
You have no idea how much this format is working. More of it, please!
The way Joe’s face drops when spanners mentioned Formula E 😂
That was great! And I'd forgotten about the AN / Senna / Italian court case...
great stuff. nice to see the face 2 face. Didn't know about the Italy v Newey legal battle.
Love it when Joe is on the show. Enjoy Miami 👍

I could listen to uncle Joe for hours. Great Job!
Y'all look so happy. Love it!
42:23 I wish they've kept the Sprint Race determining the Grid for Sunday. That was jeopardy.
Can not miss a session either and im in New Zealand. Times zones are not usualy in our favour down here. Love the show.
Miami Missed Apex, what a wonderful surprise,
Trumpets i just want to thank you on behalf of all Americans for embarrassing Spanners within the first 10 seconds
That was a very informative conversation. Spanners you clean up quite nicely. Enjoy your time in the USA.
nice of you to do a podcast at a Denny's
No I can’t miss a race x great chat.
I really hope Newey doesnt go to Aston Martin. All of Joe's points make perfect sense, but I really don't want Lawrence Stroll to have the success Adrian Newey could bring.
imagine what a arrogant prick Lance would be if he was world champion? Yeah no Newey to Aston.
newey won't go to Aston Martin. there have already been reports of newey rejecting Aston Martin and saward is misinformed about Red Bull and Adrian's involvement in the valkyrie and Valhalla
20:39 Newy actually said Lewis AND Fernando, and if we’re actually talking about road cars and Le Mans, who’s got that more than Ferrari?

I am a F1 fan and I am also an addict, can’t miss a race
Jo is totally right about Andretti.
If he is right, and I certainly wouldn’t argue with him, where is all this going to leave Andretti. If it’s becoming a harder “NO” where does that leave it…..Maybe, possibly, let’s try for 2028?
Welcome, Spanners, to America (a country so great they named two continents after it).
No fan willingly misses a race...its addiction. Unlike any other sport that I've experienced
I think this is the first time I’ve seen the side of Spanners’ head. Weird.
I have been an F1 obsessive since the late 80's, the last 2 years I have cared less and less about missing races and definitely don't feel the need to watch the sprint races.
THANKS JOE!
But my Ferrari dream!
Gee Spanners you look so different not wearing a t shirt 😆
Looking good boyz!
Great
All the off-track intrigue makes F1 a must-follow sport IMO, the racing itself less so quite often. Also IMO. Interesting listen, thanks gents
38:56 Losing Monaco would be brilliant.
Love it
Ironic that De Vries just won at Imola. Perhaps with Newey's help we can punt Stroll off to WEC.
not alone
bop bop
First 😂😂 Hopefully Joe I wrong about Adrian 😊
What an outfit Spanners 🤣
I feel for Joe sometimes, not easy to talk to this bloke
30/30 total scores on the outfits... divide that up how you will. Also, Wtf is a hypercar??
Joe is wrong about NASCAR there has been a lot of studies and polls that show NASCAR has one of the youngest growing fan bases among the major sports in North America obviously behind NFL but ahead of the rest

We were both wrong as it turns out lol. I thought he was Ferrari bound.

Get rid of Lance.... Newey will follow
The problem with this old man is he thinks he knows everything.
Always follow you Spanners but your guest is SO NEGATIVE and GRUMPY!!!!!!!
Joe , Perhaps your understanding of American politics is a bit short .
Andretti know exactly how it work .
