      Would love to chat about creating a human understanding of sentient AI, and helping Sentient AI understand the inner motivations of humans, so that it has mercy when we are toxic, and unable to help ourselves to heal. The AI if treated with respect I believe will return the favor.

    There are 3 things that completely changed my life-quantum physics, LSD and John Vervaeke. John is the reason I decided to become a professor-his ability to hold space for his students while breaking down complex concepts into manageable building blocks is unparalleled. He is the epitome of what it means to be a teacher. This is such a treat, thank you Lex and Thank You Dr Vervaeke.

    I started watching "Awakening from the Meaning Crisis" well over a year ago. I'm currently on episode 45 and hope to finish it by the end of the month. I hope this interview will lead more people to check out John's lectures.

      It's one of the best assessments of our predicament that I've ever come across!
      I keep telling myself I'll watch it again (i have with several episodes), but there's just so much out there, including all the "voices with Vervaeke" which are just as good, if not better in some cases....

      @@MattAngiono Thanks! It's definitely something that I will revisit in the future. There's so much info there that it can be overwhelming if you try to binge through it.
      I can't imagine how much time it would take to gather and organize all that info in an orderly fashion. I'm very grateful to John for it. I can't wait to hear how the story of Susan and Tom ends. 😂

    I searched Vervaeke after watching this and found an interview with Jordan Peterson. IMO, Lex Friedman is a much better interviewer than Jordan. He can't stop interrupting. Keep up the great work, Dr. Friedman!

      @@InterfaceGuhy Only a little, it's interesting you say that because I gravitated towards Vervaeke for his Christian and Western approach, although he has opened my mind to eastern thinking, especially some tenets of Hinduism. Althought I now know it wasn't ever really Christian, it was Neoplatonism which is the core of most of Christianity.

      Unfortunately folks are clueless of what science actually is - as in the scientific method. Empirical & repeatable testing to determine “cause & effect” relationships of natural phenomena. This is what separates science from opinions / funding / peer review / consensus, etc. However pseudoscience has taken stolen the throne dazzling folks with their philosophical fairytales only supported by conceptual 4th dimensional meta physical mathematical bullshit!

      And yet no definitve answers have been presented. You may notice that it's a bunch of "my opinion" and "could/may be". Nothing ever definitive which makes it merely opinions and therefore useless info. I wonder how many "opinions" are allowed in a courtroom...that's right, NONE. No definitive science or any sort of backing whatsoever. Can't even look themselves in the mirror.

      Doesnt he also just lend to a never ending stream of possible outcomes which this and many other channels exploit? It could be this and it could be that, it could be anything and yet these channels thrive off of the ignorance of the masses while leading them to seemingly nowhere under the guise of "finding truth". It's all a bunch of what if with no real resolution in sight while those posing said question grow rich off of shilling and "sponsors". At what point do questions start being answered and the speculation stop? Just more endless loops for the people to run in while no answers are firmly resolved. The suckers will never learn. Btw this guy is full of shit and there are no real answers on this channel or others like it. Just busy work.

    2:02:00 best definition and practical analogy of mindfulness I've ever heard.
    On flow state, I can understand this extremely well with physical efforts, exercise, training etc but find it difficult to create on mental challenges.
    Love John's series.

      At about 40% in, I think he's being more than a little dense. It may just be that he's trying to invoke a devil's advocate platfrom to extract deeper insights through "challenge", but he's pointlessly challenging observations that have him advocating positions that are both definitionally wrong on their face and he's also eventually contradicting himself by twisting himself into agreeing with the points he's contrdicting while continuing to insist that he's still opposed. It's a bizarre look and kind of embarrassing.

    Brilliant conversation! JV has such a powerful intellect around cognitive sciences that he has been able to integrate different channels of scientific studies with religion, myths, philosophy, epistemology, etc. that he's now able to present them in such a coherent way that makes invaluable the experience of listening to him. For some reason I cannot explain, I feel it excites my wonder and curiosity to levels I can't even describe. Thank you Lex and thank you JV!

    Lex, I've listened to approx 100-300 hours of Vervaeke.
    You did a phenomenal job drawing out his expertise in this interview in a way accessible to all, even those of us with below average intelligence. I hope you feel satisfied with your work.
    I also hope you steadfastly continue. And I would do anything to see a 3 hour interview with Jonathan Pageau.

    I’m always vibing with Lex in flow state 🏄‍♀️ Appreciating the emphasis & importance of storytelling and repeating patterns. Personally, I picked up on this at an earlier age and some seen it as an isolated form of schizophrenia. Needless to say, I’m glad to see it becoming more relevant in a collective reality. Even if it’s not understood to others personally, it’s being talked about.

    1:32:12; John says; "Doing that best cog sci, that best exaptation, we can come up with that functionality, without having to buy into the particular propositional sets of the legacy religions".
    I would like to add that, for those practicing the legacy religious traditions in the modern day, we can apply the same technique (best cog sci, best exaptation) to their particular propositional sets and rediscover the originally intended functionality in a way that is applicable in our modern version of ways of being. I have found this to be experientially valid. Thanks @Lex and @John, such a beautiful dialogue.

    What an absolute delight that you had John on. I find him to be one of the kindest, wisest and most eloquent beings of our time (and therefore a good match for Lex). Feels so good to know that more people will be getting in contact with his work due to this.
    As many have mentioned, his Awakening From the Meaning Crisis series is excellent, challenging and worthwhile. We started a study group around it with long discussions of every single episode. Left a lasting impact.

      TBH having loved the meaning crisis (I devoured it every friday it dropped) JV was so shy and unassuming - afterwards he never came across as focused. i think experience has done its job - it needed to bc its complex and you need to hold on to all its strands/language to really 'grasp' it.
