Parrot fish are so sweet. I had one named Polly that would give me smooches against the aquarium glass. He lived for 13 years, he was a very happy fishy
They're a pretty aggressive fish. I have 2 in a 40 gal tank and they're both pretty young. The "Alpha" one would constantly bully and bruise the weaker one (his whole head and fins were black). He stopped doing it after maybe 2 or 3 weeks of being together, but rarely does it during feeding time.
Because fish can't create facial expressions like mammals can, it's more difficult for humans to interpret what they're doing, thinking, etc. But close study of fish, particularly social fish, reveal an interesting level of intelligence.
Quoutub that is a blood parrot, which is an aggressive species. If they put other fish in there than it is very likely that the fish would just kill or eat them.
No , he will not kill them. I had one of these fish in a 55 gallon tank with community fish much smaller then it and there were no problems. I named mine Sherbet and gave him or her never knew which it was, and gave Sherbet a house , I just called it Sherbet's house , It was just aquarium decor big enough that could be used as a cave , which they like. If the bottom feeders or algae eaters got into Sherbet's little house he/she just pushed them out. Mine also liked to be touched. Sherbet was no bigger then a 50 cent piece when I got him/her and grew to be as big as this guy's, and lived a very long life. Never ever had any problems with Sherbet harming any of the other fish.
He is very much alive and in great health as of 6/18/2016! It's hard to clean the aquarium as he always wants to play. Heck, it's hard to get anything done in the room because he's always acting out to get me to come over to the aquarium. It's probably the fish thinking it's a female and trying to do some mating ritual or something. Unfortunately reality usually isn't as wonderful as our perception of it.
It's actually very common in fish keeping, I think the general public is giving fish less credit than it deserves. A lot of fish are also quite intelligent and can easily recognize their owners and differentiate different humans, and also learn tricks they'll remember their entire lifetime. But of course different species of fish have different level of intelligence and consciousness. A wrasse is intelligent enough to have self awareness (there's a lab experiment on this), a cichlid can be affectionate like the fish in the video (which is a parrot cichlid), different betta fish have very strong individual personality, very curious of their surroundings and can easily learn tricks, but sadly most people put these active and intelligent bettas in a vase or a bowl that made them a depressed and inactive stationery floating fish. Other species like tetras and rasbora are more simpler minded and less interactive but their simpler intelligence and instinct are still impressive.
Fish can be easily trained, also. Fish behavior, memory and deduction skills have been tested in laboratories enough to get an idea of their smarts. We now have recording equipment that can detect an incredible variety of vocalizations they make, shedding some light on how they communicate in various social settings. Owners who choose to be involved with their fish often yield astonishing results, teaching them tricks and forming trusting relationships with them. Koi are a famous example.

@@armageddon4831 people are smart and realized he never put food in the water to begin with. The title of this video should be "I'm playing with my fish!" Instead the a-hole used a "kind hearted" title to reel in more views.

This is not adorable. This fishes live in big groups. Need "friends" not for love but instinct. This fish doesn't love the owner and it is not playing.
for those saying they've never seen a fish this interactive with its owner, I think I have an explanation for that...this fish was a dog in its past life
That is the cutest thing ever! So impressive to see a cichlid play! I have a lot of experience keeping fish, but I have never seen something like this before! (Also try to not break off the slime coat on the fish! ) I hope he's still alright!
I first saw this on instagram. Many of the comments were like "I wish I had a fish like that!" Just wanted to say I think this is really sweet - the connection the two of you have, and that for people who say animals don't have feelings, this certainly brings it justice!
Except fish don't bond with us... is it really hard for some of you people to understand that this species of fish is simply curious and has nothing else to do in a tiny compartment? It has nothing to do with wanting to 'play' with someone it acknowledges as a leader/friend.
Jesus Christ Animals can have much better communication than humans also plus they were during perfectly fine balancing out the pray and predators before we came along and fucked everything up 😐 Wolves have packs and social order Lions have prides Chickens have the pecking order Hyenas have a pack (I think...) Fish have schools Humans can barely talk to each other sometimes without trying to start a war
This is the reason I got a blood parrot. And mine is just so darling! He likes to pretend to bite my fingers off, and then kisses it better after. He pretends he’s aggressive, but he’s a softy! Haha 😂!! Oh and one night I was having a horrible panic attack, I was sobbing and he just stared at me with his face pressed against the glass and did his little dance that I taught him (he bobs from side to side, almost like he’s shaking his head “no”) to cheer me up!! It was so sweet and helped me calm down after the panic attack. One of my favorite pets I’ve ever owned!! ❤️🥰 🐡❤️
Adorable :D My oranda is similar. More a 'water puppy' than a fish. lol Most fish I've had in the past don't want to be messed with much, and then there's this one who, while I'm trying to clean the tank, is there putting her face in my hand and trying to get attention. lol
Similar experience with my comet (Carassius auratus) as when the aquarium was being serviced he'd swim and rest in the palm of my hand. This is a problem for Goldfish as they have a slime coat which can be removed through human contact. However, I trusted my Goldfish to have the intellect to know if his slime coat was being removed. Furthermore, when ever I passed his/her aquarium he'd attempt to get my attention. Although, in my opinion that was probably him asking for blood worms.

To be fair, Maria said "he" because OP stated the fish was a boy in the description. Don't be that guy, Pizza Dog.
He is

She would wiggle like crazy & go back & forth keeping me in her sight & the more I talked to her the more excited she got like a dog. Had her 5yrs miss my little angel

Yes
I had a fish like this a year ago. he was wonderful. Sadly he passed on, but I got some videos of him like this. Thanks for the memories.
this is not a fish this is a dog in the body of a fish
SO CUTE!!
OMG, what are you doing there? You're awesome!
No.
This Dog has Autism.
no. fish is smart to.
I have seen so many people misunderstanding the behavior of animals "he acts like a dog!" No. Maaaany animls act like that but people barely notice it, even cats, birds and fish do things like that, not only dogs.
stfu hes not implying that only dogs do that. take that liberal shit outa here

I just don't understand it when people say that animals are just animals; this is a great example of a trusting friendship between a man and his pet companion.
Sad
Katharine Miller I mean, technically we human are animal so we are not that far from them.
Yes it's arrogance on the part of man, especially those for whom science is a religion.
I mean.....animals are just animals. They're not also anything else. Animals aren't also trees, or cars, or spoons etc. Kidding...... just playing with you're word usage.

I'm sick of these comments. Maybe it gives sense of purpose and creativeness for those who copy this meme from others and replaces its content with a different title. Really it's just a giant lump of cancer spreaded into every fucking video.

Rain526 Also considering that they’re already in horrid environments on average. Without that gel it’s the difference from life or death. The worst treated fish ever...
This is adorable it's the first time I've seen someone play with fish ❤️
This is not adorable. This fishes live in big groups. Need "friends" not for love but instinct. This fish doesn't love the owner and it is not playing.
I used to have a big fish named Charlie, he liked being petted like that too. 😀

Janelle B he just likes the scritches. Fish will rub against turtles in the wild
My fish was just like this too, I couldn't go in the room without her "following me".
Except fish don't bond with us... is it really hard for some of you people to understand that this species of fish is simply curious and has nothing else to do in a tiny compartment? It has nothing to do with wanting to 'play' with someone it acknowledges as a leader/friend.
Sad that you can't see past your species. Must be lonely in there.
Jesus Christ
Animals can have much better communication than humans also plus they were during perfectly fine balancing out the pray and predators before we came along and fucked everything up 😐
Wolves have packs and social order
Lions have prides
Chickens have the pecking order
Hyenas have a pack (I think...)
Fish have schools
Humans can barely talk to each other sometimes without trying to start a war
I had a king kong parrot I used to do this too but since his mouth was more formed when he bites it actually kinda hurt lol

My oranda is similar. More a 'water puppy' than a fish. lol Most fish I've had in the past don't want to be messed with much, and then there's this one who, while I'm trying to clean the tank, is there putting her face in my hand and trying to get attention. lol
Taurus01979
Yep, i had an Oranda and a fan tail that played like that.
Taurus01979 how do you even bond with fish?
