Regardless of its flaws the rp5s value for price, aesthetics, size, and power convinced me to purchase it as my first retro handheld after years of casually eyeing these devices
Got the ps buttons and man somehow just replacing the buttons not only makes the device look better, but for fun too. Makes it seem more official, like the device we wanted but never got.
The only thing i would add. To stop cross threading when replacing screws into plastic first wind them counter clockwise until they click then tighten as normal.
Those hybrid buttons look really niceeeee, I'm planning on getting an RP5 very very soon, and this would be a pretty awesome mod to do to it! Do you make colored button variants? I always liked that type of buttons hehe
I miss you guys man. RP 4pro is really a decent device and I love the 4 pro design more than the RP5. 4pro looks more classic and more retro looking for me. Also I think 4pro is powerful enough . I will get a 4pro next year even it’s an old device I love how it looks just want to be part of my handheld collection.
@ED4T good idea 👍 , next year the RP4 pro will be much cheaper 😊btw Ed, can u do me a favor, please make a tutorial on using winlator on Android 😊 but of course if you are not busy, because I don't want to bother you.... we really miss u, best fried
Nice tutorial/showcase! Another good teardown in-video along with Retro Tech Dad's 👌 Also, can you please put up a page or listing for those low profile sticks? They look really great! The ones that fit Retroid/AYN/etc. devices 👍 Like what's shown here on your GC RP5 on the left stick. I'd like to purchase a couple sets of 2pcs Black Dome(GameCube style) sticks for the RP5(but just the low profile variant seen here that I can't find on Etsy)... to try out/test against the DOTT sticks & stock Retroid sticks I have :) Just wanna make sure they don't rub against the shell of the RP5 around the thumbsticks, otherwise I'm in. Thanks!
The low profile stick is not available right now on my Etsy store. I will try to push them out next week . I have designed and tested a lot of times and make sure they don’t rub against the shell of RP. That’s why it’s lower also smaller if keep the original size when make it lower the stick will rub against the shell. All issues are considered when I was making the stick. Please no worry.
Sounds good, no worries; thanks for your work! Will look forward to trying them out when I can order & receive. Yep, I understand about the design in making the diameter smaller when shortening them to not interact with the shell, makes sense. Also, hope the Canada postal strike comes to a full close soon for you guys after potential settlements being reached today I read.
Yeah man I haven’t upload for more than half year. Miss all you guys here. I was too busy with my Etsy shop and full time job. Hope I can release some time next year to TH-cam and push out some gaming videos. I purchased a lot handhelds this year. I think i have a lot to talk about them.
Looks great! Any plans on making standard versions of the buttons? I would love to buy these for the noise appeal alone, but the off center buttons make me wanna pass for now.
@CaribbeanGamerpr I redesigned the button shape. Also I believe the stock button plastic is another reason. I tested the stock button after unglued them and they still sound same. I don’t think the glue is the problem.
It will be a little bit of quieter on the mini. You don't need to cut the membrane pad. Just use your finger nail separate them off the stock buttons. I showed the separation in this video.
Nice buttons, but personally I would prefer the opposite with a large PS version and a small Xbox version in the corner. I'm waiting for my RP5 to arrive and then I'll think about it.
Wow that is a ton of work to change out the buttons. I was thinking about doing mine, but… maybe it’s not worth it. I’ll just keep annoying my wife at night. 😉
just did it by myself exactly like he does in the video except i didnt unscrew the speaker. took me probably 15-20min tops. Really easy because the RP5 is build to repair so every part is really accessible. you can do it too! :)
Sorry man. I thought that’s too much just putting the repeated step to open up the backplate. It takes some time to open up the backplate. Probably 4 to 5 mins
They are not quieter lol youre flicking the purple ones buttons and pressing your custom ones so it sounds different., There is no difference between yours and factory. You didnt add any dampening or material so no matter what if you flick it like you are it will sound the same.. nice try tho
You shouldn’t judge this until you try in person. The button has different material compared to stock one. also I designed the button shape differently than stock ones to reduce noise. I was NVH engineer for 8 years in my career so I know how noise and sound works.
Regardless of its flaws the rp5s value for price, aesthetics, size, and power convinced me to purchase it as my first retro handheld after years of casually eyeing these devices
Yeah man absolutely worth the money.
Congrats, a great handheld for your 1st. I am also getting my 1st handheld after years of watching all of the reviews, haha 🍻
It's so great, isn't it! It's also my first Android device, so it has been kinda fun seeing how that operates.
Same. It’s been greatly so far.
The second I opened your video. I went straight to your Etsy and bought them. Amazing work. I am so excited.
Wow, thank you!
let us know how much of a waste of money that was lol
@@digitalmagik What a Moaning Michael. Plenty of people on his ETSY page stating the new buttons are quieter.
this made it SO EASY to do. thank you so much for this
No problem ! Buddy
Just wanted to say thanks for a good and concise video on how to do this. Cheers.
just ordered your colored PSX buttons for my RP5 🔥
Great work, they look amazing. I hope one day you can develop a clear d-pad for the Retroid to finish the sleek Vita look!
Thank you ! Eventually I will get there. This is just the start.
@@ED4T once you do come out with a clear d-pad ill plan to put in an order
The Vita dpads already fit, I believe.
@@SavingPrivateBob not without modifications
Nice to see an upload from you again, Man! Hope all is well! :D
Thank buddy. I will try to upload from next year haha but won’t so frequently and you have a wonderful holiday !
Got the ps buttons and man somehow just replacing the buttons not only makes the device look better, but for fun too. Makes it seem more official, like the device we wanted but never got.
Glad to hear that. It’s a small diy project. Haha just enjoy the modding process there is a lot fun.
The only thing i would add. To stop cross threading when replacing screws into plastic first wind them counter clockwise until they click then tighten as normal.
That’s a great tips . Thanks for it
Don't forget to chew your food before swalllowing!
Thank you for this video!
No problem!
Welcome back!
Thank you there. Temporary back tho
Welcome back!!!!
Thanks bro. I am temporarily back. Don’t know when the next video will be.
Those hybrid buttons look really niceeeee, I'm planning on getting an RP5 very very soon, and this would be a pretty awesome mod to do to it!

Excited for some Retroid Mini buttons!
Yes sir on the way haha
perfect guide thanks!
Planning on doing Mini buttons as well? Would instantly buy them!
Yes working on it and should be ready by end of this week.
hi Edd😅 nice to hear from u again....
a few months ago, I bought Retroid Pocket Pro 4, but suddenly they release this Retroid 5😢

@imanrachman9044 I will try man but no guarantees. winlator is great to use on RP4 pro I believe.

@Ap616 thanks buddy. yeah the strike sucks . Hope it ends soon. I will repost here I guess when stick are ready haha maybe a video to show the stick.
Hey! Any update on those low profile convex/GC sticks? 🙂 I want to purchase some :P @@ED4T
@Ap616 haha they are almost ready. it’s coming to my Etsy store tomorrow.
Damn Ed it’s been awhile!

Yeah I eventually will make some normal buttons just for the quieter purpose.
@@ED4T Would buy those in a heartbeat!
Do you think what makes it quiet is that the stock comes glued? I bought a replacement rp4p buttons and Im think on unglued them to test it out.
@CaribbeanGamerpr I redesigned the button shape. Also I believe the stock button plastic is another reason. I tested the stock button after unglued them and they still sound same. I don’t think the glue is the problem.
@@ED4T ohh thats good to know! Will have it on consideration
Dammit, I forgot to put the speaker back in. Gotta open it up again D:
Thanks for telling me what it is though :) I thought it was the rumble lol
This happened to me once as well I forgot to put the shoulder button in. lol
Hello. I ordered buttons for retroid pocket mini. Will the sound be quieter after installing them? And do I need to cut the membrane?
It will be a little bit of quieter on the mini. You don't need to cut the membrane pad. Just use your finger nail separate them off the stock buttons. I showed the separation in this video.
Can you please please make whites ones for the white rp5?
Please Msg me on Etsy I will make custom white one for you.
Just ot these buttons today.
Any Playstation style that will work for anbernic 556? Please reply
Yeah I will work on 556 buttons soon.
Nice buttons, but personally I would prefer the opposite with a large PS version and a small Xbox version in the corner.
I'm waiting for my RP5 to arrive and then I'll think about it.
Yes plan to making those one with bigger ps and smaller Xbox ones.
Can you make a Vita D-pad
Probably something close not exactly same as the vita dpad.
Will you please make a accurate colored game cube a button please 🙏
I will try but no guarantees how close the color will be with original GC
@ I’m sure it will definitely be better than that Christmas forest green they have now lol
I will make them glossy finish instead of matte.
Dreamcast buttons?
Great ideas !
@@ED4T +1 on DC buttons

Is a vita d-pad compatable?
I don’t think so. They are different. Maybe compatible with Odin 2 mini Dpad
i read somewhere that they fit, but you need to modify them a little bit, like sanding some down or so.
Its not helpful when you cut and edit OUT the most important bits on how you get the back plate out.
I mean why edit it out? How does that help?
Sorry man. I thought that’s too much just putting the repeated step to open up the backplate. It takes some time to open up the backplate. Probably 4 to 5 mins
Man I'm busting my hands up trying to pry that side open it is stuck HARD
Try to pull the back plate by hand while you are prying. It's better to use a thinner blade pry go get into the gap.
6:06 Soo....with my clumsy fingers, I snapped the ribbon cable (and the white port) off in one motion.
I’m sorry to hear that. Have you tried to contact with Retorid ? I guess they will be able offer you some parts to fix it.
@ yeah. Still waiting for reply. For now i can still play games without shoulder buttons
