Lens mount is made from metal, may have been bent , so dont try to attach this lens to your camera it may damage your cameras mount. Can you check the bolts that keep in place the lens mount , is there any damage on threads.Finaly i would change the lesn mount with a brand new , it is not very expensive part.
Random question here. I have the nikon F mount version.Would it be possible to change the integrated board and lens mount and convert it to a Canon mount?
Hello , it is a difficult question. In my opinion yiy have to replace the lens mount and the contacts, if the contact flex cable is the same (same contacts on the board) there could be done. Also search if the main board of the lens is one P/N , that means that is compatitable with all lens. But it could be done , if tou try my suggestion.
Hi, I bought a lens where the autofocus is not working at all, which in my case did not matter as I pull focus manually, but while twisting for focus it is not completely smooth throughout the whole rotation. Could this be the focus gear? Or is it as previous mentioned perhaps the flex cable? Thank you for doing this!
Hello my friend, there is no any focus gear at this lens. The focus motor is working electromagnetical, so there is nothing to do with the manual focus. If your manual focus is not smooth , it should be the three plastic bushings that need penetrating vaselina or at the previous assembly may have overtorqued the three bolts that keep in place the 3 bushings. As for the auto focus the flex cable is connected to the focus motor as an assembly , you have to replace it.
I don't know if you are still replying to comments, but I wanted to ask - is there a way to replace the front filter thread? How much disassembly is required for that?
@@ganag83 thank you for the reply, I've checked the prices for just that plastic part and it's too expensive, so I probably won't be attempting the repair anyway. Thx again
Hi, I need to remove the back lens element to clean it from fungi from both sides- can I access it without taking off the rubber grip and fully disassembling the lens? Thanks!
Hello as i understood you want to clean the element as shown in my video at 5:39. You have to remove the rubber grip and partially disassembly the lens from rear. Do not care about the rubber grip if you remove with care it will fit when you reinstall it.
Hello! I have never tried a front disassembly of this lens. But watch this video, the process looks similar for all sigma lenses th-cam.com/video/3eKpDdcrbHc/w-d-xo.html i
Hello, i ha ve this problem i need help. There in some dust inside the Front 1st optical glass of my sigma 18-35mm and i do not know how to get there/open it and clean it, because i do not know how to open the front glass ? Can you help please ?
Hi. Thanks for the video! How did the problem appear/introduce itself? I bought the same lens second hand and the apperture only closes to ~/2.5. If I select smaller aperture in camera settings, I can hear the motor running longer/louder, but the apperture is not closing past ~/2.5. Was it the same for you? Did you disassemble the lens first to understand that gear is broken?
Hello i had almost the same problem , the aperture was making a noticeable noise on fully open position and did not take the right position. Then i disassembly and i found the broken gear on aperure motor. I deal with this problem twice , so at the second repair i replace the genuie plastic gear with a meta gear from aliexpress (www.aliexpress.com/item/4001074838062.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.164.5acb1802wnm0eK) and still now it is working perfectly.
@@ganag83 thanks a lot for the advice! I was stupid enough to buy the lens although I noticed that apperture was not closing, however I thought it was a lens software issue. After finally getting hold of my camera now I realise that apperture is closing between /1.8 - /2.5 and not closing further, so probably NOT a software issue. I guess the seller will have his karma back 🥴
Yes, the gear is cracked indeed! Will try to glue it with epoxy glue, maybe will be able to fix it like this while i wait for the metal gear delivery! Thanks again for the video instruction! Helped me a lot!
Hi George, I just came across your video. I was wondering if you could give me any advice. I have an similar lens but the aperture won’t change anymore. It is “stuck” on 1.8. Do you by any chance have an idea what could be causing this? Thanks
Hello , the most common problem for these series of lens is the broken aperturte gear . But it could be also a damage flex cable , you have to disassembly to figure out.
Hey george, I got a grain of sand stuck entirely under the zoom ring. The ring still turns, but you can feel the sand in there and hear it as well. After reviewing the parts, is there any way the sand particle can get deeper inside the len and cause damage?
Hello i have never disassembled the front section with the manual ring, but the way that manual ring is working is similar with the focus ring. Probably the little pieces are stuck on the cylindrical bushings of the zoom ring because there lubricated with baseline or grease. So i believe that the cylindrical bushing will get worn and also the sand will pass deeper to your lens. It is better to ask for help a authorized sigma service for cleaning and lubrication of your lens.
My lens mount got broken when the camera bag dropped. Just need to ask if a broken mount can be repaired or I need to buy a new one.

It makes sense but risky. I would try if i had already the conversion parts, otherwise it doesn't worth.

@@ganag83 ok thanks, will take it apart today to see if the gear is indeed broken
An advice , the motor aperture gear is tiny ,and its difficult to find the crack, use a magnifier.

Hello guys, i got a few scratches on the focus distance metering, do you have any ideea how to remove them?
If the scratches is from the inner side you have to disassembly the lens, as i remember you have the access for cleaning.
Hey, do you know if the zoom and the focus can be smoothened, is there anything doable to reduce friction in both focus and zoom rings? Thanks!
In my case ,it helped applying a very small quantity of vaseline into the slots were zoom and focus ring moves.
Would this fix an Err 01 code on the camera? And how much would replacing that part through Sigma’s shop be?
Hello the Err 01 can triggered for a couple of reasons. In my case there was not any error code. Try to clean the camera and lens contacts .
Did you figure it out? Mine is getting Err 01 too
Where can I buy a replacement for the focus drum (where is the af / mf zone) for this specific lens? thanks!
Hello ,this diasassembly stops before the focus mechanism (motor and ring) , try a search at aliexpress for replacement part.

I was hoping you were going to tear it down and remove all the optical elements. Ah well, it's better than nothing.
I teared down until the aperture mechanism ,that was my problem in my case. It is a functional lens so there was any further repair needed.
