I find it wild that Therese’s gentleness often seems to be perceived as her whole personality, instead of one aspect of a radical interior life. St. Therese was fierce - it is no small thing that she idolized Joan of Arc… I highly recommend reading the poems and plays she wrote about her.
@@wayofthestars Therese was a warrior. Spiritual genius. Radical in her trust in God’s Love and Mercy. Doctor of Merciful Love.
When I was introduced to St. Therese, I was told, “She’s your worst enemy and your best friend. Enjoy!”
😂😂
Don’t like St Terese? Those are fighting words!
@@dominicschulte6073 haha ya I know what u mean..
I am a new re-convert and I can't wrap my mind around people not liking saints when we have never met them. We are going off of sometimes first-hand but often second and third hand accounts and making judgments on them. It just really confuses me. If anyone could clear it up for me I would really appreciate it.
Of course we may not resonate with every saint the same, but to outright dislike them? It sounds crazy to me. My mind instantly thinks that it will be an awkward conversation at the least if God willing we make it to heaven and have spoken bad about a saint.
You can have her. You can share her with less people.
As my patron Saint, these indeed are fighting words.
I know ryt..jk
I was the most UNHOLY person, throughout my life. When Christ called me to the Church, St. Padre Pio spoke to me IMMEDIATELY! His staunch, no nonsense holiness resonated with me.
Padre Pio, pray for us!
Funny you should mention that, Padro Pio sometimes scares me. I think he is the saint to put the fear of God in people. Tbh I think he's a man's man Saint.
I'm a woman btw.
This is the most inflammatory title Josiah has ever written
The best kind of Clickbait… It definitely worked on me!
Thank you for smiling at me St Therese, your little way has pierced my heart.
St. Therese of Lisieux is also my Confirmation Saint. She was recommended to me by Sister Mary Helen Grace from my Church, and I’ve never looked back. Grateful to Sister for helping to guide me in my journey of faith when I was young. Blessed Be. ❤
"Our patron saints are those opposite from us" A Franciscan postulant told me this a couple of months ago. At first I thought he was wrong but the more I reflected on it, I realized he was right, at least in my case. This seems to be the case with Shayne as well. My saint is St. Teresa of Ávila:)
That is correct. My patron saint Zelie is diligent, beautiful, and a mother of five children. However, I am exactly the opposite.
You don’t chose St. Therese, she chooses you.
@@arose4u2 agree
I was praying to God to help me find my patron Saint for some weeks. I noticed that my feed would suddenly be filled with videos about people talking about St Therese. Didn't think too much of it. One Sunday I went to Mass despite having a cold and blocked nose.
The Church has relics of a number of saints (St Paul, St. JP2, St. Anthony of Padua, St Mary MacKillop) including St Therese. After Mass, when the Church was empty, I prayed in front of the relic St. JP2 for healing to clear my blocked nose. Nothing happened.
I walked over to the relic of St Therese, and as soon as I read the plaque and realised it was her, my nose INSTANTLY cleared and I got the smell of flowers, I looked around, there are no flowers anywhere around me. I knew immediately that St Therese had chosen me. God is GOOD!
Agree
I hadn't really thought much about St Therese, but over a couple week period last month, it became very clear that she had chosen me.
I 100% agree. I was resistant to her at the beginning but she made it very clear that she had chosen me.
This is why I miss good old-fashioned T.V. Everything on TH-cam is just clickbait.
Even if someone doesn't like St. Thérèse🌸, she will work on their hearts and they will become very devoted. 😊
St Therese of Lisieux the Little Flower once said; she was like a little flower looking up to the saints giants in the faith and she replied because she was a little flower our Lord would pick her up in his arms to lift her above the great saints. She is known as the greatest saint in modern times a Doctor of the Church.
I kind of feel that way about what people have done with poor St Francis
Even the LGBTQ community has tried to co opt St Francis in recent years
What, love him?
@rylewx certainty he is loved and should be! I meant more like he is mischaracterized as a soft cuddly guy, standing around in birdbaths. When he was actually incredibly strong and heroic, undergoing penances for love of Christ and the Church.
What sort of man would go out in the wilderness and tame a man eating wolf if not a man of courage.

Ooh. Can you go more in depth into this?
@@madelizabethjade Pope Francis is depicted as a liberal heretic. But he's actually pretty orthodox on faith and morals.
I can see that. The world makes him out to be a proto hippie who despised the Church hierarchy.
This was so cool to listen to. My name is Theresa. I’m currently reading the story of a soul. I have gotten many roses also from St Therese. I’m 53. When I was 18 I did a novena to her and she answered. I did a novena to have a son. I have one son and 3 daughters. I did a novena that was answered but differently than I wanted but turned out better than I expected.Recently my daughter who is 30 had a mini stroke. I have been praying to God for her and asking St Therese also to pray for her and intercede for me. There were many miracles during that time. But, I, as I’m reading the story of a soul, many of times also think like , hmmmm I don’t really like the way she did that, or maybe it’s how they portray her, but like sister Natalia when st Therese speaks about the deep spiritual things, it’s just beautiful. I bought my 5 year old granddaughter(daughter of my daughter who had the mini stroke) a st Therese doll for Christmas. I been trying to tell them “little ways” of St Therese. But I thank Jesus for giving us the saints as little flowers to look at. Beautiful and gives the scent of heaven. I’m really glad to know that sister Natalia thinks the way I do about st Therese to a degree.
I think it's time for me to give St. Therese another try
Haha she doesn’t let you go
Years ago I bought Therese's Story of a Soul but couldn't get past the first couple pages. Then one year for Lent I decided to read it as a penance. Except it wasn't. It was a spiritual gift. Oh, and she asked me to send this to you: 🌹

What do you mean St Therese gave you the rose on your face? You woke up one day and St Therese was hovering over your face with black gloves and a needle?
I know Tattoos are a pagan practice. So that is something a saint would NOT do.
@asevelel I'm guessing he tattooed a replica of the real rose he received onto his face.
@@chrisperez1685 You know what, I was being goofy but was still confused, and what you just said makes a lot of sense.
yeah I read St louis de montfort's little rosary book at a really vulnerable time in my life where I was dealing with a new schizophrenia diagnosis, just having gotten out of the hospital for a psychotic break, and I was hallucinating a lot of voices, and it was affecting my prayer life because I thought the voices were from God but then they would get really messed up and evil. So I was trying to turn to God and prayer during the most chaotic and confusing experience of my life, and it was blowing up in my face. So I ended up having to reject every single voice I thought was God, still believe He's there and He loves me, and just trust that God would be able to get a hold of me even if I kept hanging up the phone on him so to speak lol. So I was wanting this relationship with Mary, but it seemed like the only prayer I was healthy enough for was prayer where I basically didn't recieve any comfort or feel like anyone was on the other end of the line at all. And it made the rosary really dry and awful, and I kept hitting walls and not being able to get through it and feeling guilty about it. So I figured Mary probably didn't want me to pray the rosary for that long or that often, at least not yet, and I figured it probably would make her just as happy if I tried to learn about the rosary and learn how to pray it without getting stuck, which is why I picked up that book. But the book was really not good for me because it made me feel like I was hurting Mary's feelings by not praying the rosary well enough. I did learn a lot about the rosary, and it did make me want to pray it, but there were things about it that I had to just push away because they weren't good for my relationship with God, it made me feel exhausted and discouraged and like I had to try harder if I wanted God to love me, which I couldn't, because you can't earn God's love by being good enough, it's a gift, and that was a lie that I was super succeptible at that time
For me it's impossible to dislike St. Thérèse
I love Thérèse of Lisieux. St. Catherine of Siena is my favorite.
Reading "Journey of a soul" at the moment i love it, top Saint for sure up there with Saint Faustina.
I so wish the camera would have caught Mother Natalia‘s facial expression when chat GPT called her the abess 😂

What do they mean by Therese sent them roses?
@@kimberlykatiti6969 If people pray to St. Therese for assistance the belief is that you will receive a rose or a flower in some form as proof that your prayer will be answered.
@@lesseryellow I would say it's more about the prayer being heard but not necessarily answered in the way you think it will be.
I don't like it when people coopt the Little Way to downplay the necessity of ascetism and penance. Therese didn't do that.
For some reason the "little girls", St. Therese, St. Maria Goretti, and St. Gemma Galgani are the 3 big saints that I have heard about and know about, and want to learn more about.
I loved this. We are going back to Mount Carmel, which is home to the Canadian National Shrine to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux.
Lol 😂... according to her book her Mother Superiors disliked her too. Long-suffering.... tolerance of others everyone talks back at the slightest disagreement these days..
I don’t think St. Therese was gentle, she was fierce and ambitious and had to practice gentleness.
Remember those Muppet Show characters Statler and Waldorf? They'd probably say something like: "Matt Fradd? Matt Fraud more like! Harrumph!" Only joking, Matt! Great channel! 😇
The Passion of St Therese changed my life. Most unique perspective of her.
Et les français ils sont là dans les commentaires ??
I don't like St Therese much either. I read Story of a Soul after hearing the "simplicity and practicality" of her spiritual life praised over and over. When I read the book, I learned that she never committed a single mortal sin, and her spiritual life seemed to depend so much on that exceptional grace that I didn't find much I could imitate.
She was spoiled, neurotic, impulsive, and needy. I can totally relate.
@@Linda-f8q6p God Bless you and St Therese pray for us!

Therese was a neurotic but thats ok
You know what Shayne, if gentleness - a fruit of the holy spirit - is a quality that's a particularly important charism for you to have, then aggression would have been laid on you to help you purify it. Think of all the people in prison, or isolated due to not being able to manage their aggression and have gentleness. The people who do or will suffer isolation because they can't be trusted around vulnerable people ever again due to a complete lack of gentleness and self-control. Those folks need a mentor and patron saint. So, there you go.
Haha St Therese always feels like an annoying little sister, peeking over your shoulder and standing in your peripherals. She is relentless :)

Why don’t ppl like st Therese?
For me it's not that I dislike her but that I find her intimidating. Her spirituality is intimidating in the smallest ways but that are huge in everyday life. So I avoid her in a way.

When I first read Story of a soul I really disliked her. For me it was Hysteria of a soul🤦🏻♀️ Now I repent. Years later I read a book by Jacques Phillip about her little way and something in my brain and my heart changed, it was a click, a connection and I could understand what trust in God means. I was kind of a pelagian.
I've read all her writings, except poems. I needed that change to really understand her. Now is one of my favourite saints.
I dislike some saints because the biographies show them perfect during all their lifes. That's why I prefer to read what they have written than what others have written about them.
Wha does it mean she gave them roses?

If you pray to St Therese, usually in a novena, you either get a physical rose or a smell of roses quite often. In an unexpected way. Obviously if you're a florist, you won't get a rose. But if you never get roses and then one day there's a red rose on your desk at home with no one else in the house. That kind of thing.
The rose is usually coloured to indicate something.

St. Therese in 99.999% of the things I've seen about her portray her as a Victorian novella come to life, complete with early death from consumption. Even the things she wrote herself, I hear in Snow White's voice. It turns my stomach.

Roses. Lace doilies. Theatric photos of Therese histrionically playing Joan of Arc, then sitting like a little tubercular owl peering out from beneath dozens of layers of habit and bedsheets dying on her convent’s veranda.. Her nepotistic relationship with her birth sisters in the convent, their collective abandonment of their father to madness in the asylum.. She’s somehow awesome, yet just a bit too much, overly dramatic, the star of her (their) own production, verging on a drama queen.
That day at World Youth Day on the racetrack in Paris in 1997 when they proclaimed her doctor of the Church, when they enfolded her cult into Saint (ahem.. ) John Paul II’s cult of personality.. That day was pivotal for me, a day when I began to question so many things.. The obscene rock star like adulation we, the crowd showered JP II with, followed by what struck me as sloppy mass sacrilegious “pastoral” desecration of the eucharist so typical of the Novus Ordo during communion there .. All of that disturbed me.. JP II is spiritually and theologically dodgy in too many subtle ways, far too dramatic photogenic and emotionally tempting, while his immediate fruits have been profoundly ambiguous, even putrid.
I can’t say how I feel about Therese. I just keep her at a distance, because I don’t trust Modern piety and spiritual sensibilities. There’s a lot of putrefaction in Rome. Anything or anyone they promote these past 100 years is suspect in my sensibility. The less sentimentality I have affecting me, the better, and Therese’s cult is saccharine and sentimental unto near absurdity.
This is dreadful!
