    This is super interesting as it adds to the bigger picture. Hope there is more to come for other brands. That wholesale is not the same what the public will pay should be self explanatory. I mean, that is not something that is unique to watches but all products.

    The only reason why they post "transparency" videos like this is to fool the suckers into believing they don't have room to negotiate down. The timing is convenient too after so many shady dealers getting exposed, I smell defense mechanism and bs

    You should do a video on every step that goes into buying a watch as a dealer, with service, all the way through reselling it. People would better understand the time, effort, expertise and structure that goes into a sell. And where the profit margin actually goes.

    • @greymarketpod
      @greymarketpod  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'll do a POV (point of view) video from the view of a watch from the moment we receive it to when it ends up on a client wrist.

      They should also do a video showing the backdoor supply they get from ADs

    Sorry I am doing both for watching and listening. For podcast please do as you have a great voice for it so I would enjoy that as well. Watching is great too as I like to see the watches you are talking about. I like this content so if you all have the time for this (not sure how you all have found the time so good on you all for that) please keep this format up!

    You fools actually believe the 5 to 10% markup? 😂😂 These guys are snakes. I wouldn't be surprised if it was more like 30%. Wouldn't be surprised either if they buy tons from ADs at retail. 5 to 10% isn't going to pay for all the employees, commissions, lights, marketing and fancy luxury cars etc.

    There are a ton of costs and risks associated with getting wholesale pricing on any good or service. If you have a problem with this video, spend the $100k plus to set up your own AD and good luck with that. Odds are you're better off paying more using a reputable dealer who eliminates the aforementioned risk. If this reasoning doesn't make sense, buy a Timex.

    Avi your video needs more detail. You discuss a 2018 15202 and use CURRENT msrp but in 2018 the msrp was much less when this watch was purchased. I think be a little more mindful of context because wholesale and used pricing is affected by age as well so it’s a little weird you’re comparing a 2018 watch to 2023 msrp

  • @497chris

    Market correction benefits many, burns some. The current housing market is an example. Great time to buy, not a good time to sell. I see a trend, when a market goes down, interest rates increase. When a market goes up, interest rates decrease. Should it be that way though? Just asking 😂.

    Thanks for sharing those prices Avi. Nothing wrong with making money. I'm surprised it is something that needs to be explained to the public. Although I guess it helps to prevent outrage from leftists.. At the same time - 40 grand for a stainless steel watch just shows how ridiculous the market still is. One more thing - Avi, could you make a video about servicing costs of various brands / watches? Some people expect Breitling level pricing on AP watches and once it goes into 4 digit territory, people open their eyes wide. Keep up the good work! I enjoy listening to your podcasts as you keep going through a bunch of information in a short amount of time, you don't come across as having overgrown ego and you don't throw jokes that nobody laughs about like that german Nico guy.

I get that is controversial and not everyone likes it, but I feel that if your clients trust you they will come and buy again and again. Lastly everyone needs to make a little money and that is totally fine with me as well. You make money when you buy at the right price and leave emotions out of it;more simply said than done... 😂 😂

  • @evandavies8890
    @evandavies8890 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ok, so you're a bit unclear with your terminology.
    As someone who's a watchmaker and worked for a number of high end brands, run flagship stores and runs a pre-owned platform, you keep using the term "wholesale".
    What you mean with wholesale is what you guys, as grey market/pre owned dealers or traders buy it for.
    That isn't the actual wholesale price. That's YOUR wholesale price, not the WATCHES wholesale price since you bought it from someone else, not the authorized retailer.
    Let me explain.
    Having worked with many brands directly with sales, I know what the brands sell them to authorized dealers for, which most of you aren't.
    For most brands that sell products to privately owned authorized retailers; Bucherer, Wempe, Schaap & Citroen, The Hourglass etc.
    They pay roughly between 50-65% of the retail price for the watch. That is their wholesale price. The range depends on material, scarcity, price etc etc.
    So a watch with a 10k retail price, that AD would have paid around 5-6.5 for it. This is their profit that they have to pay VAT on, salaries on, other taxes and employer costs, rent etc.
    The prices you're talking about are the prices that grey market/pre-owned dealers flip to each other, because mostly they do a lot of business between each other back and forth very frequently, so it is in their interest to keep those relations good, and make smaller profits on more frequent trades.
    Can an outsider just walk in and get these prices? Most likely no. Can you guys who do this buy those watches at those prices privately still, yes.
    So there is a bit of a distinction between what grey market dealers buy it for, and what the AD wholesale price is.
    Look at the new 126600LN Daytona, retail price of 15.100€. The price that the Rolex AD purchases it for is around 9k.
    Grey market dealers would be overjoyed to buy even the previous version for even 20k, let alone at retail.
    So this seems to be quite confusing for a lot of people when terminology isn't really very clear.

    • @greymarketpod
      @greymarketpod  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the insightful comment! Since we're not an authorized dealer and are not purchasing directly from the brands, I mistakenly assumed that was a given. I'll be more clear about it in the future.

    • @MyWatchLLC
      @MyWatchLLC ปีที่แล้ว

      They are a grey market dealer. Obviously they are talking about their cost! Nothing confusing here, you are confused. And a panda doesn’t have a wholesale cost of 9k. Stop trying so hard.

    • @evandavies8890
      @evandavies8890 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyWatchLLC Of course I know that, but not sure everyone else does. Hence my comment.
      You’re free to give me the exact number what the Daytonas wholesale price from Rolex is if you know. But the margin should be roughly in that area. How else is an AD supposed to make a profit, if there margin is even smaller?
      I’m trying to help create a bit of transparency here mate. If you aren’t adding anything useful, then don’t comment.
