- When author and poet Maya Angelou was working on the 1993 film Poetic Justice she had an interesting encounter with one of the film's stars, rapper Tupac Shakur.
Maya Angelou's interview with George will air as part of a special New Year's Eve episode on Tuesday, December 31 at 11:30 p.m. on CBC.

She failed to use her notoriety for change..then she had the audacity to challenge 2pac -a very impactful determined and compassionate leader who was using his resources love and brilliance for change to a destitute cause. She made him CRY when she should have been making him Proud. Like kindred spirits. They spoke the same language. She saw him for the wounded young man that he was, not the Thug image he portrayed. That is why he cried. That is why she changed him.

@@vilijam22 Essentially she's saying that she only has the rest of her lifespan to speak before death takes her away. So it's better for her to speak the truths that people need to hear at that moment versus dancing around the conversation with nice sounding words and wasting the precious moments she has left.

She didn't know him so she didn't know how much these words were right.
Pac was raised by Afeni to be a major leader. As a kid, his mom used to tell him that he was so important for the community, that he was a black prince.
Pac was a black panther, so he was more than aware of what his people have endured during the last centuries.
Maya had the words that Pac deeply felt. That's why he cried. It was like a reminder : stop this bullshit, you have a nation to raise.

Pac was a young kid with an entire world on his shoulders. His mistrust in people wasnt unjustified, but the anger of youth just took him to a dark place.
If anything, this makes me respect Pac even more. The fact that he cried shows you just how much he was hurting and felt for shouting and screaming and cussing like that.

Pac let out tears of pain. He was fighting against the world. The pain that only black men can shed. I had plenty of those moments in my early twenties. That inner rage and hurt..

Pac did a track in tribute to her. "Still I rise" is one of her most famous poems and Pac did his own personal version of "Still I rise" and his opening verse is one of the hardest rap verses of all time. Not because it's vulgar but because of it's depth.. In one verse he outlines his life in a way that only he could do it.

What she said to him was not only the truth but it was extremely important. I'm sure her words meant the world to him. Rest in peace Maya and Tupac.
He cried because he knew the truth. She as well. When she said that, he felt the relief of someone understanding him as many didn't understand him. Remember who Pac was BEFORE Deathrow. He was post Black Panther Party. He knew what we went through and people then, just like now, forgot that. All he wanted to do was help change the world. Remember he said, he may not change the world but hopefully he would be the spark to someone who did. Some of his cries went unheard. It gets deeper though. Especially how Deathrow was a cover for his image. But I'll let people figure that out on their own. Cuz I'm feeling a bit like Pac right now and I know people wont listen.

I remember the first time I heard this woman's voice . I stopped and had to listen. I didn't understand , but she spoke to my heart . I listened, everything she spoke . She always had a message, always had something to give to the generations of children who would listen . She made an impact in my life . May you rest in peace.
