Fams ... we, MommaB and I, are just 😢 The words to this song are so so 💯 beautiful. No wonder why my Aunty wouldn’t translate for us. She said that she didn’t want too because she might get words mixed up or wrong. This is like one of those beautiful poems that comes to life and tears at the heartstrings. Thank you so much fams for this insight into Si Oto Loto, it gives more meaning for us listening to the song knowing what it means. @@LifeWyfCaityB No worries! 😊 You'll be surprised at how many island songs carry just as much depth and compassion. Si'oto loto is a cover, which, like many of our songs and poems (both Sāmoan and Tongan alike - or across different Pacific languages for that matter) hold complex intricately interwoven metaphors which makes translating them a struggle. I guess language barriers (particularly amongst those brought up overseas) have prevented many from having the privilege of appreciating the beauty that is expressed through our languages and songs. I'm more than happy to help open doors towards that understanding for our peoples. It really is mana-enhancing and empowering! Have a great weekend!! ❤❤

Unfortunately Tongan tauolunga has been modernised and most tauolunga these days if you pay good attention you may realise it has a Samoan twist! Not that I’m against Samoan I love my Samoan people as I have Samoan family too, how ever it would be awesome if most tauolunga punake keep Samoan dance and Tongan dance moves separate as they have there own richness and story to tell! Contemporary dancing is not a part of Tongan tauolunga aswell so people need to stop it and keep the culture sacred and alive!

The beauty of our Poly customs is that we can differentiate it from the other and you’re right in saying that one can spot a bit of another culture in our own. Everyone is entitled to their opinion...with all due respect...I have danced for decades in all styles of Poly dancing...especially Tongan...n I don't think that is the case at all.
It is easy to tell the difference in the Tongan n Samoan ways of dancing...n if there is a young lady that is doing a Tongan dance that may look to you...as if they are moving in a similar way to the Samoan way of dancing...then you have been watching someone or people that doesn't know how to do a Tongan dance properly in the way of we Tongans perform...n the same goes for a Samoan dancer too.
There is Grace n Elegance in both traditional cultural dances of Tongan n Samoan...given both traditional dances are done correctly.Anyways Have a Blessful Day n everyone on here too.Stay Blessed.

One family here in West Melbourne and all the kids speak fluently I swear 💯 and that’s the only Tongan family we know here but definitely a whole lot more back in NZ 👍🏼💛
