I just picked up a 1957 python 4" blued in the box unfired today,I had tears of joy on my way home,I've wanted one since I was little and I'll tell ya this gun is in 💯 condition
I bought mine in 1980 for $350!!! I bring mine to shooting range, shoot and enjoy it. Wonderful handgun. I gave to my son ... he shoots it about once a year ... still in near perfect condition.
My god they are gorgeous, bought my 6" in 80 when I got out of the Navy. Believe it or not I traded it in 84 for a colt car-15. What a dope I was! You are correct they were "all" hand made action is like butter and triggers break like glass...Congrats on yours
Don't get me wrong I love my firearms and respect the workmanship put into them but why not fire it? I was given 2 pythons, colt 1911 model 70, s&w 32 long and bunch of others. Brought them to the range and everyone gave me crap for shooting them. Sorry but I can't just let something sit around collecting dust.
Im so late on this comment. My python is being reblued right now and I am absolutely going to shoot it. As the fanboys say “to shoot a python is to love it”
Yep same. There was an older retired state trooper who would have 3 pythons for sale every single year. Always were gone within the first hour at the gun show. Every year they would go up $100. Dude had the foresight to put them away. He knew they were special. Everything great eventually comes to an end. We're in the junk era now.
I bought this gun new in 1983 for 359.00 in California, after 4000 rounds+, the action is as smooth as the day I bought it. Time to re-blue it! Yours looks nice, Go ahead and shoot it----
Bought one (6", blued) for $385 in 1978. I got half the cash cutting yards and my folks put up other half for Christmas present. I was one happy 16-year-old. Have had it ever since. Fired less than 2000 rounds. Sure wish I'd been able to buy a bunch!
Beautiful revolver Sir. Colt revolvers in general are awesome. I'm also very fond of the King Cobra. It's a different action obviously, but likewise a fine revolver. Thanks for sharing the Python!
It's awesome cause my dad was on a website called gun brokers where people action guns off. We found a 1975 and a 1978 colt python 6" barrel in the blue finish. We bought them for super cheap and it's lit cause the 1978 is the exact year of rick grimes python from the walking dead. A few days later we found a colt anaconda 8" barrel that has never been shot for 40 some years and got it for super cheap too!
I've owned one since the early 80's. Mine was bought new and came with a rear outline sight and red insert front sight. Is this revolver worth $2,000 used, nope. I also own a S&W 686 and I can buy two of these new for less than a Python used. A close friend bought a Ruger Match Champion recently and that is a fantastic revolver.
Thank you very much for your Python videos, very nice job! This morning i picked up one from 1972, 6 inch blued, only at the tip of the barrel, you can see minute traces of wear. It has been shot. And damn it will be shot again. Next weekend. It _longs_ for being shot. Such a nice trigger! We do not live forever. And when the curtain has fallen, you won't take this gun anywhere. So cchoooot it! NOW! :D Have been waiting for my buying permit well a year here in Germany, maybe this freaks me out a bit. But well, at least we can get pristine Pythons below 1 k on the used market because nearly no one can buy more than 2 handguns here. So - have fun and thanks for sharing! Love to hear more about our guns for sure, so keep it up! ;-)
Simply the best. 1” Groups with 148WC ammo with little effort. Mine is 1968 6” Royal. Not as pretty as yours but I shoot mine without guilt and it continues to increase in value like a muscle car. Can’t say that about a new Smith 586. New Smith’s look and feel like they are made in Taiwan
I own a 6" nickel plated Python! It was stolen and I got it back 18 years later. I have a video on my channel. It is the "Rolls Royce" of the revolvers. When I got it back, I took it out and shot it! Still hits dead center! That will be the last time I ever shoot it, it is now been retired. Mine was made in 1973! I even have the box it came in. Enjoyed the video! Oh, I have a friend of mine which sold his Colt Python, his Colt Diamondback and his Colt detective special. All 3 for $3000. I told him if he ever wanted to sell them to contact me. He didn't do that. Really pisses me off. He told me he needed the money right away to pay down on a Porshe sports car. What a fool! Take Care!
Sweeeeeet revolver bro. Thanks for the look and info... keep it for a rainy day ain't that right bro. Well I'm pretty sure you won't want to sell it but if you had to atleast you get your money's. Worth for it. Or more no doubt.
Gun Enthusiast i have more than doubled my money on it since the day i bought it some years back. My only mistake was not buying more of them when the price was low, now they are too expensive for me.
Beautiful. I have a Colt Trooper Mark V, brand new in the original box with all the original paperwork. Not a mark on it. Never been fired since bought. That is my safe queen. I have a Python that I'm picking up tomorrow that I will shoot. It looks just like yours, made in 1979, and it has a little holster wear near the crown, and a couple of small scratches near the pony. It's not perfect and I got a good deal on it. I have really wanted one to take to the range, and this is going to be the one.
BATJAC J.W Ow! I guess I have to accept that...Been totin' mine since mid 70's...If I carry, it's in the holster...It has been stuck up two noses in its lifetime, and I'll go no further on its History, btw, no deaths involved with the nasal insertion things...They was smart enough to get the 'Message'...
I have a 1990-1 6 inch blue barrel. It came with black grips. I don’t shoot it a lot but I run about 100 rounds a year. I always draw a crowd and let a few people shoot it. I love their smile when they cock the hammer. None smoother.
I'm just curious, if you'd ever decide to sell this one, how much would you ask for it? I've seen these guns in the 1800-5000 price range. This one is in excellent condition, a Python like yours here, goes for at least 2500-3000.
+András Horváth (Drutar) the prices do keep climbing back when i bought this the gun shop told me hand on to it it's the best investment far as a pistol you can get. Boy was he right. Don't think ill sell it soon but if i did i'd have to ask top dollar.
Ben Heron Depends. For example, barrel lenght. Usually sellers ask more for 2,5 inch versions, and even more for 3 inch versions. There are also "special" serial numbers (pairs maybe), engraved Pythons, even depends on the year it was made in. And of course the stupidity of the seller. I've seen some in worse condition than this one, for 7000$. So when I said 2500-3000 I tried to be rational, considering all of those things. Also I said AT LEAST. So it could be more. He could easily sell it for 5000$ I guess. Edit: Oh, and of course fired, or unfired counts. A Lot.
I paid 2500 for mine today 6-30-21 it in 90% condition and I didn’t complain about it. I’m just happy to finally have one in my collection. But to be honest I really don’t think I’ll treat this new to me pice anymore different then my Ruger Security six pre warning banner gun.
Alve Bladin depends most of the time its on auction and you'll have to face the bidding war. The prices now are a bit high at 2000 to 3000 too expensive for me to buy one today.
I take my python out, admire it and stroke it with a micro fiber cloth. Then I put it away. Sometimes I have a negligent discharge, but I always point it in a safe direction.
None better for collecting. I do believe pre model S&W 27's that are superior to the run of the mill post 60's Python though and the S&W action superior to the Colt and is easily tuned, IMO. But the Python is drop dead sexy.
My father in law has one that he got from his dad. It's never been shot except from the factor. He showed it to me once it's still in the original box.
what do you mean the 586 "always outshoots the Python?" Doesn't that depend on the shooter? Maybe it is because the cylinder latch is more practical for hurried reloads than Python. No way it is even more accurate.
+teller121 Any differences as far as the gun's inherent accuracy goes would be minimal as best. It depends on the person. The Pythons were never known for being very great service sidearms. Great for target shooting, but not so much for defensive purposes. After all, it was based off of a .38 Special target gun.
Shoot that gun bro........that is what it was created for........yes they are a dream to shoot as you stated.......but you have to shoot it to have the dream.......I have three Colt revolvers including one NICE Python.......I do not abuse it or shoot it a lot but I am not gonna die and leave it unused
The Python was undenyably a great gun, but one of the most overrated in weapons history. It only jacked up in price because Colt stopped making them and the gun dealers saw an opportunity. The most over valued as well. The Smith and Wesson Model 29 is a close second. Great guns but not really worth anywhere near what you have to pay for them.
I just picked up a 1957 python 4" blued in the box unfired today,I had tears of joy on my way home,I've wanted one since I was little and I'll tell ya this gun is in 💯 condition

They shoot amazing very smooth.

Something about that Python. The flame out the end of the barrel at the range is awesome. Much respect.
Thanks for watching.
This gun is one of my favourite Revolvers . Since Samuel Colt made ' The Peacemaker ' .
This Revolver, is a beautiful work of art .
I bought one at the Rod & Gun Club in Fulda, Germany while I was stationed at Downs Barrack, 11th ACR, back in 1978.
MU5TANG5 I have one on layaway with German import marks. I was told it was probably a GI purchase at one point. Did yours have the import marks?
bripro68 I would have to look it over see if there's any unusual markings.
Don't get me wrong I love my firearms and respect the workmanship put into them but why not fire it? I was given 2 pythons, colt 1911 model 70, s&w 32 long and bunch of others. Brought them to the range and everyone gave me crap for shooting them. Sorry but I can't just let something sit around collecting dust.
tony !!!! Firearms means u fire 'em!
Im so late on this comment. My python is being reblued right now and I am absolutely going to shoot it. As the fanboys say “to shoot a python is to love it”
I remeber when my dad took me to a gun show when I was a kid and seeing some Colt Pythons for sale. It was love at first sight haha.
Yep same. There was an older retired state trooper who would have 3 pythons for sale every single year. Always were gone within the first hour at the gun show. Every year they would go up $100. Dude had the foresight to put them away. He knew they were special. Everything great eventually comes to an end. We're in the junk era now.

+Richard Wood it's a smooth shooting gun for sure
Picked up a Python today it’s definitely cool. Vintage 1970
Bought one (6", blued) for $385 in 1978. I got half the cash cutting yards and my folks put up other half for Christmas present. I was one happy 16-year-old. Have had it ever since. Fired less than 2000 rounds. Sure wish I'd been able to buy a bunch!
+teller121 i know with today's prices ouuch!!
Magnum Force is the whole reason why I LOVE Colt Pythons
I have always wondered how Colt pulled off such a deep lustrous blueing on these things. Its like the paint on a show car...
I love the colt python.
The ROLLS ROYCE OF HAND GUNS.
Beautiful revolver Sir. Colt revolvers in general are awesome. I'm also very fond of the King Cobra. It's a different action obviously, but likewise a fine revolver. Thanks for sharing the Python!
WeTheArmed thank you for the supportive and kind comments, the colt snake revolvers are truly a gem to any collector. I wish i had more money.
It's awesome cause my dad was on a website called gun brokers where people action guns off. We found a 1975 and a 1978 colt python 6" barrel in the blue finish. We bought them for super cheap and it's lit cause the 1978 is the exact year of rick grimes python from the walking dead. I had one in the early 80's one of those that good away. On my would love to have again list
***** yes sir if you search long enough i think you can still find one for a lower price.
Nice.
I must admit they are the most beautiful revolvers ever built and that Royal blue finish is amazing with sunlight.
If you hold that and say "I am the law" you actually are.
LOL
Is there a BB version of this gun? Someone please tell me!!!
Yes it is a tsd air soft revolver you can choose if you want a 6 in 8 in and a 4 in barrel you can get silver or black

+Cameron Morris love that gun

Screw the porsche, keep the python
The Colt BOA .357 is the Rolls Royce of the revolvers my friend, not the Python ;)
Sweeeeeet revolver bro. Thanks for the look and info... keep it for a rainy day ain't that right bro. Well I'm pretty sure you won't want to sell it but if you had to atleast you get your money's. Worth for it. Or more no doubt.

I have a 1990-1 6 inch blue barrel. It came with black grips. I don’t shoot it a lot but I run about 100 rounds a year. I always draw a crowd and let a few people shoot it. I love their smile when they cock the hammer. None smoother.

what would make some pythons worth 5000$ if this one is worth 2500-3000$? not judging just curious

+Ben Heron also the 41 magnum versions are more i think

I used this model as a duty weapon when I was a cop.
Ryo Saeba’s signature gun 😍
My vintage Python will outshoot my 586 any time. Not by much but it's noticeable. Same with my 2020 version.
Such a lovely gun
Thanks!
I take my python out, admire it and stroke it with a micro fiber cloth. Then I put it away. Sometimes I have a negligent discharge, but I always point it in a safe direction.
Now that is funny.
That sounds climatic!
The dirty harry gun
This is Ryo Saeba's gun in " CITY HUNTER " !
'One word. Python. Heh.' Indeed.
simply beautiful....
Kitne ki hai
Thats is beautiful!!!!
None better for collecting. I do believe pre model S&W 27's that are superior to the run of the mill post 60's Python though and the S&W action superior to the Colt and is easily tuned, IMO. But the Python is drop dead sexy.
+vl5150 i agree with you. Good post here thanks for sharing it.
I wish they made them just one more time so I could buy one but I'll just settle on a s&w 586
+jacob dukes i know i wish they still made these and lower the price.
Barrel length I like
im in dallas Texas area
My father in law has one that he got from his dad. It's never been shot except from the factor. He showed it to me once it's still in the original box.
Wouldn't handle without gloves...Nice piece.
+sandspar thank you
Have one just like that
thanks for the vid this made me choose colt over smith n Wesson 686
I thought the Colt BOA .357 is the most sought after modern manufacture revolver... ?!!!
what do you mean the 586 "always outshoots the Python?" Doesn't that depend on the shooter? Maybe it is because the cylinder latch is more practical for hurried reloads than Python. No way it is even more accurate.
