Stupid A&E killed it because they didn't want the one demographic this show was pulling in, they wanted to cater to a younger audience. So insulting. So stupid. This was a brilliant show and I want it back!
Longmire was so refreshing it was a return to quality series making, addressing meaningful issues , with a leading character - a man that isn’t perfect yet has all the qualities of a good person... who has the wherewithal and mana (presence) that we haven’t seen in a very very long while. Great show and well assessed
Love Walt, Man after my own HEART. I’m to old to care what others think, I’m a bit “Old School”, been wearing cowboy hats and boots all my life (nearly fifty years), just love Walt’s style and mind set, sticks to his guns regardless of everyone else’s opinion. 👍🏼❤️🇺🇸🤠
You hit the nail right on the head! RobertTaylor’s portrayal of Walt Longmire is what made him human and believable. He is honest, but not perfect, but he is, above all, a good person. I’ve been to Longmire Days in Buffalo, WY, and met Mr. Taylor and author Craig Johnson.. The two of them created a great character!
@@julieb.5381 Yes I went in 2019 for the.entire 3 days. It was soooo much fun! He even signed a can of Rainier beer for me. I highly recommend the experience!
You are exactly on point. Robert Taylor is the perfect fit. This man is the best hero we have had in decades. All the garbage on TV and then this pure, moral, kind, lovable man shows up. A real man. The writing is superb and the cast is fabulous. I love the chemistry between Walt and Vic which steams over. I am so glad they got together in the end. Also, he is one gorgeous man. He’s the tall, handsome, rugged real man of most girls dreams. And he was Agent Jones in the Matrix. Wow. I wish they would continue this show forever.
Walt is definitely one of my favorite characters in a visual medium of all time, and he was just written so wonderfully throughout the show. He had the classic traits you expect from a good old boy, but had some deep and intriguing flaws that offset him and made him more engaging to watch. He didn't always make the right calls, he sometimes let his own biases get to him and it almost cost him everything. But he stuck to his guns, learned where he errored and came out of it a slightly less stubborn man. A great, inspirational character.
All westerns, good or bad, are morality plays. As a western fan and as a writer of westerns myself, I came to Longmire fandom through the TV show first, then read the books. In part it was because Walt had that moral code not seen since Gunsmoke, Cheyenne and The Rifleman. But I also had a powerful feeling of synchronicity with him. I’m a cowboy at heart, I believe in a moral code, I am about Walt’s age and height. I have been a law officer and a military officer, and at the time I first saw the show, my wife was recently deceased. I also despise cell phones. That gave instant identifiability with me. I felt like I instinctively knew this man and what he was going through. Yet despite all the controversies and questions we have about is “broken” character, we know without a doubt that in the end Walt will do the right thing. In our hearts we hope we would, too. Walt shows old school toughness and yet he can be sensitive. He is also in denial about his attraction to Vic, as any moral sheriff must be when they are the supervisor. This is the best modern western I have seen precisely because the main character has a moral code he will not shed, even if it kills him. In that sense, he is the classic western cowboy hero set in a modern day setting where he seems out of touch with most of society. Best of all, he doesn’t care.
well said, Ed.... I agree totally. At 70 I recall the old westerns that were indeed morality plays meant to convey a positive message to the audience. It is amazing to me, that so few people realize that the answer to today's troubles lie in the template of the character of the heroes of old, be they fictitious or real...sympathy for the loss of your wife
Walt is definitely a very big inspiration. He is a man of the law, but knows that the law fails people sometimes, which sometimes drives him to make his decisions based upon his own discretion and heart. He is able to see the good in those that have fallen and are seeking a second chance, can bridge very chaotic divides and is willing to face the consequences for his principles. He was always a fine example to me of why you should stand for what you believe in even when it doesn't benefit you, because what's right is right and some things can't be compromised. His stubbornness is endearing, because when all else is in flux you can always count on Walt to be a constant force for good.
Yes, there's a lot of layers there. I'm always amazed at how much energy the creators spend building the back story of the character, even stuff we never really see on screen, but it all helps to bring the guy more to life and pays off by us being able to talk about him as if he was as real as our neighbor down the street!
Nice to see a thoughtful presentation of the man. Helped me to formulate what I'm seeing in Walt. He expects loyalty. Because he knows he's a good man and deserves it. He doesn't trust anybody. He hates lying. He wants to flush out the truth which is not only necessary for his job but intrinsic to his nature. It's not that he doesn't want friendship or intimacy but sees it as something he has to guard against having seen it so many times in his job used to manipulate trusting people. He never wants to be caught off guard. That would be failure. A betrayal to his badge and training. While not as jaded as his former boss, Lucian Connely, he's learned a lot from him and his own experience and will not err on the side of trust. He trusts his gut on Nighthorse and feels betrayed more by Cady than anyone else in his life. This is a superb work and has held my rapt attention as I have now binged the whole 6 seasons in less than 8 weeks with the exception of one more show - the finale - scheduled for Monday night.
Viva Longmire! Boy Howdy! However, in addition to Robert Taylor becoming Walt on screen gotta give a shout out to Lou Diamond Phillips capturing the pure essence of Henry Standing Bear. You can't have Walt without the Bear. These men are brothers in the truest sense and while Lou's physical stature does not perfectly fit the giant of the man in the novels, he brings Henry to life in all other ways. Particularly the cadence of his speech. Lou is Standing Bears voice.
We say "as if removed from the tongue" - I wanted to write exactly the same. In some ways these outstanding personalities complement each other, but in their main principles they are similar. Excellent work of Lou Diamond Phillips, the image created by him is unforgettable.

I was informed that I would like it, so went to Amazon and watched it. Enjoyed the whole series without interruption. Most enjoyable watch. And thanks for sharing more about the character make up and how it is stiched together.
Walt reminds me of a modern day Marshall Matthew Dillon. That says a lot in my book. I greatly admire both men in real life and the characters they play.
I thought the exact same thing! For many years I always wondered if they would do a remake movie of Gunsmoke. But I know they could never cast a Matt Dillion. But Robert Taylor would have nailed the role (though he is a little short)
Thank you. Enjoyed your insightful analysis. I consider LONGMIRE to be the best acted, best produced, and best written of all time. Robert Taylor most certainly deserves praise for his ability to convey the main character in a way no other possibly could, but the series also contained equally superior supporting actors who reached to the audience and brought believability to the roles they played. This is especially true of Katee Sackhoff's character whose body language alone should win an Oscar! Oh, and it's the only made for TV series I've ever purchased for home viewing.
Wow! I came across the series early on during the pandemic and became addicted! I loved seeing Wyoming, the Indian culture and the Walt's cowboy lifestyle - a world I was so unfamiliar with. I also appreciated his strong moral character, work ethic and bravery. For some reason, he reminded me of my hardworking grandfather (minus the gun battles). I was so obsessed with the show, I think my boyfriend was secretly jealous! LOL
LONGMIRE THE EPITOME OF MAN ! WE ALL LOVE HIM !! AND WE LOVE ALL THE ACTORS ON THE SHOW !! NETFLIX BRING IT BACK !!! ITS OUTLANDER DONE MODERN DAY WESTERN !!! WE LOVE IT !!!
I absolutely loved this show. Robert Taylor was perfect as Longmire and the chemistry between him and Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, and A Martinez, and even Peter Weller was fantastic. As much as I loved it, I think it ended at the right time, but I'm still waiting for a spinoff, "Matthias and the Ferg!" LOL.
I fell for Walt with the death notice episode. He cried, my heart melted. I started watching this series when it was on A&E years ago because of Lou Diamond Phillips and A. Martinez. When the series ended years ago, I thought it was done. We got Netflix 2 months ago, yes years later. While searching for Lou Diamond Phillips, I found Longmire. We binged watched the series in 7 days.
Craig Johnson, the author of the Longmire books, said that in Robert Taylor’s audition for the role of Walt, he did a scene where he had to inform a woman that her husband had been killed. Rob was the only actor to enter her house and took off his cowboy hat out of respect. No other actor who had auditioned for the role did that. It’s a small gesture but a meaningful one. That, and Taylor’s good looks, made him an ideal choice for the story lawman. So many scenes are memorable because of his performance. The chemistry between Robert and Katee, who played Vic, is something that the creators of the series could not have ignored. Vic is feisty and strong, but their tender moments were beautiful. And despite their engaging temporarily and falsely with other partners, we all knew which way they were ultimately headed. Walt retiring begs the question as to what he will be doing in a revival of the show. Probably raising a child with Vic is my guess. Is she still a deputy? Did Cady become sheriff? I hope we will get the answers to these questions. This series means a lot to the fans, and we want to see the talented cast together again!
My wife and I just finished the final season last night. What a phenomenal and sweeping show this was. You hit on the keys that made this so good. We especially appreciated the throwback type of character that Longmire was. Those type of men are rare in society today and are needed more than ever. One other key to the success of the show was the supporting characters. They all fit very well and helped strengthen the breadth of this series. We are already going thru withdrawals. Any suggestions on similar series? Thanks for this great channel!
Have you watched the TV series "The Son" (2017-2019) with Pierce Brosnan? Of course, it's quite different, but there can't be a second Longmire! But in its own way, it is also impressive, "catchy".
Longmire is one of those TV shows that depicts a modern day Western. Longmire and his small band of Sheriff's is undoubtedly the best show I've seen for a long time, the storylines are fantastic and emotionally charged, balanced out with love story/s that brings a sense of mystery to the show. It disappointing that the love story between Walt and Vic wasn't explored more, it would be a beautiful storyline for Vic to become pregnant with Walt's baby. A baby lost by Vic would have been a far fitting storyline ending. Have watched Longmire several times but Netflix in Australia has deleted the show for viewing....hope they return it soon.
It may be surprising that in a very distant country and for a person of a seemingly different culture, different mentality, other customs, Longmire is not just understandable - it is close, dear, and admirable. You watch his actions and the development of relations with Victoria, empathizing with all your heart. Because these are universal values-constancy, loyalty to principles, honesty, the desire for good to people and the punishment of evil. And of course love. Longmire is not a glossy beauty, he is not young, he is stingy with words, but looking at him, sometimes you forget to breathe. This is what real men of any age and any nationality are like. I wish there were more of them, although who am I kidding - there are not many of them, alas. And I would like to say separately about the well-chosen locations for filming. The view from the verandah of Longmire's house is one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen, and I live in the Crimea and am spoilt for various and delightful scenery.
WOW what a comment! I almost forgot to breathe while reading it, lol. 😂 This is spot on in so many ways...I find Walt memorizing. I may be oldish but I'm not dead! 😌
As 'bad ass' is a bit subjective, Walt stands for those who may not be able to protect themselves. He's a man who knows how to absorb energy, whether from a bullet, or a fist. He's a man who willingly takes the fight to the superior force. He's a man who refuses to be intimidated. He's a man who manipulates his enemy. He's a man who finishes the fight... he is a true bad ass. Longmire is a great show, and you compose a great video... thanks!
Yes. It was certainly timely, but he was telling the truth. Barlow's agenda being exposed was what truly saved Walt; Nighthorse was honorable in not participating in it exactly for that reason.
Thought that Jacob was a great character and have no idea why he went to jail. They had no evidence of his direct involvement, and he actively worked with Walt and Henry to save both of them at different times
@@Justicia007 He did eventually become imprisoned for business corruption, but the details weren't specified in the series finale. It may not even have been Walt (or the Absaroka County SO) that ultimately effected his final arrest. I'd have to go back and re-watch that finale to be sure, as I've only seen it once.
Longmire was one of the series, I got hooked on like many others and I was very disappointed when the serie ended on German TV. Thumbs up for an excellent serie and brilliant actors not only the main ones - every one was a perfect match
Awesome video man, and love the channel! Nice to see Longmire get some love, such a damn good show! Hope to see more videos on this show in the future! You got my sub!
Robert Taylor knocked every woman off her feet with his portrayal of this well written character. It's not really that surprising. Women have been seeing giant babies trying to pass themselves off as men on TV for decades now and I don't care how expensive your suit, your car and your bling is, that's tiresome. They put a real... not perfect, but a real man on TV... with standards, guts and a combination of brains, intellect and depth, and the women came running. To rephrase ZZ Top... every girl's crazy about a sharp, good man.
ME AND MY HUSBAND HAVE WATCHED IT TWICE !!! AND MISSING IT SO MUCH !!! LONGMIRE IS THE PERFECT CHARACTER TOO PLAY THE SHERIFF ! AND VIC WAS SO RIGHT FOR HER PART TOO !!!
Robert Taylor becomes the perfect and with all flaws Walt Longmire. Walt has becomes my local hero here in sunny Puerto Rico. On my way to pick up the hat and boots. Thanks The Modern Western for creating such an informative YT channel on western. And yes, looking forward on your reviews for Hells on Wheels.
Though far from "accurate", this series appeals to me for a number of reasons. As an aging man myself who once did some time as a cop, I find myself more able to relate to shows and movies featuring older protagonists, as if to validate the idea that "mature" men can still be heroes or experience adventure. The Wyoming countryside (okay, played by New Mexico countryside) is, to me, a character in the show itself. It sets the tone and posture for a lot of the emotion and drudgery that forms many of the plot lines. My father, a rugged man himself who also did time as a rural Colorado deputy, lived and died in central New Mexico, not far from where much of Longmire was filmed. Unfortunately, he passed before Longmire aired; he would have been enamored with the series as well. He and I, though separated for most of my 54 years, shared the same outlooks and values, something I found uncanny when we re-established contact about ten years before his death. I also go about my days in boots, jeans, and beneath a cowboy hat, when I'm not working, at least (I work in EMS.) I drive an older Dodge pickup truck now, but I'm tempted to check out a Bronco for sale south of me. It even sports the same color scheme as Walt's does. ;-)
He's made much about the TV version of Walt not being funny but I found him hysterical at times. Sure he didn't crack jokes but he gave the impression of being very grounded and therefore well placed to point out life's foibles.
Longmire is simply the best show I had the pleasure to stumble across by accident.

Taylor's performance is wonderful, and he is SOOOO striking to boot. It's so nice to have a "mature" actor to swoon over! And so nice to see an actor who can really sit a horse... My favorite show ever!
It’s refreshing to watch!
MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY !!! WALT IS ONE OF THE SEXIEST MAN I HAVE EVER SEEN !!! IT JUST RADIATES FROM HIM !! AND HE DOESNT EVEN NO IT !! THATS WHAT US WOMAN LIKE !! A MAN THAT IS NOT IN LOVE WITH HIMSELF !!!A SILENT MASCULINITY !!!WOW !!!
I just can't imagine why this show is not still airing. I've mourned the series finale for a few years, now.
this show is everywhere, your not looking in the right places, think even netflix is playing it Again and again and again.and again.gag
@@starstuff5958 I know that, I meant I cannot believe they are not STILL PRODUCING the show ie., new episodes we've not seen before.
Me too!
Stupid A&E killed it because they didn't want the one demographic this show was pulling in, they wanted to cater to a younger audience. So insulting. So stupid. This was a brilliant show and I want it back!
@@DoulaGarcia And took away the reason a certain demographic watched their channel at all. Brilliant.
That was the best show of all times.
I can’t believe they won’t bring this Show back it was truly interesting. All the Cast was Great and the stories were always interesting and engaging.
Longmire was so refreshing it was a return to quality series making, addressing meaningful issues , with a leading character - a man that isn’t perfect yet has all the qualities of a good person... who has the wherewithal and mana (presence) that we haven’t seen in a very very long while. Great show and well assessed
And Walt/Robert couldn’t of got there without the brilliant diverse cast !
I want this show back!!!
One of my favorites. Great moral compass. We could use more of this these days. Wish it were still on.
I wish the show continued for 10 or 11 seasons.
Thanks Judy!
You actually met Mr. Johnson & Robert Taylor. That is AWESOME!!! If Longmire Days returns, Covid permitting, I want to go. Sounds like a blast!
@@julieb.5381 Yes I went in 2019 for the.entire 3 days. It was soooo much fun! He even signed a can of Rainier beer for me. I highly recommend the experience!
@@JudyGoodson Good for you--sounds like so much fun. I'd love to experience that & combine it with a trip to Yellowstone. Maybe in 2021. Who knows? 😄
Really well put, sir!!! 😊
Well stated.
Plus he did it all with an American accent. Apparently he reverted to his Aussie accent off screen.

That was a great show I will watch it all over again
I watched the series 3 times. It was my "go to" while I sat down to lunch. I miss it.
Love this show, the books and the characters-Boy howdy, hmmm.yes it is so.

Hands down my favourite TV show.
My partner and I have watched these show from the first season to last time and time again.
Me too Zac!
MINE TOO !!! THE BEST WESTERN !!!
Loved this series and wish it could of had another season or 2.
Loved the depiction of Henry Standing Bear, and the bond of brotherhood between those two!

Longmires the perfect combo of badass and gentlemen

Well done, The Modern Western. Well done.

Love this! Good job! Presentation is Stellar! Thank you,
Walt is not a small town law man, he is the Sheriff of a huge county with only 2 or 3 deputies to help him enforce the law.
Love love love this show & Walt ❤️
I fell for Walt with the death notice episode. He cried, my heart melted. I started watching this series when it was on A&E years ago because of Lou Diamond Phillips and A. Martinez. When the series ended years ago, I thought it was done. We got Netflix 2 months ago, yes years later. While searching for Lou Diamond Phillips, I found Longmire. We binged watched the series in 7 days.
Bring Longmire back for a few seasons!
We would love it!!!
AT LEAST EIGHT LIKE OUT LANDER WE LOVE IT !!!!!
Please bring back Longmire, or at least a movie!
Have the whole series on Netflix! Have watched each episode many times! Love Walt, Vick and Henry!
Best TV Series since Bonanza. Walt is awesome and I like dispatcher lady as well.
I loved this show. He was superb
The reason we love Walt Longmire is that he's a man's man. He's positive masculinity personified.
Excellent idea and thank you. We will give it a try.
It was a great show wish there more like it. TheReaper!
I would watch it again and again, I love that movie.
Loved this show
It may be surprising that in a very distant country and for a person of a seemingly different culture, different mentality, other customs, Longmire is not just understandable - it is close, dear, and admirable.
Thank you for your comments! It is interesting that the weathered American Sheriff character is actually universal in some ways.
WOW what a comment! I almost forgot to breathe while reading it, lol. 😂 This is spot on in so many ways...I find Walt memorizing. I may be oldish but I'm not dead! 😌
I find Walt mesmerizing. Auto-Correct is trying to censor my comments, lol. 😲
SO TRUE !
Dude looks like the whole cast of Longmire blended together..
Yeah great man, Walt brings great colour to the screen, finished too early for me,
As 'bad ass' is a bit subjective, Walt stands for those who may not be able to protect themselves. He's a man who knows how to absorb energy, whether from a bullet, or a fist. He's a man who willingly takes the fight to the superior force. He's a man who refuses to be intimidated. He's a man who manipulates his enemy. He's a man who finishes the fight... he is a true bad ass. Longmire is a great show, and you compose a great video... thanks!

I love that scene so much. I've replayed it many times on Netflix. They were great adversaries. I didn't see it coming.
@@Justicia007
He did eventually become imprisoned for business corruption, but the details weren't specified in the series finale. It may not even have been Walt (or the Absaroka County SO) that ultimately effected his final arrest. I'd have to go back and re-watch that finale to be sure, as I've only seen it once.

Love this show...
THIS IS WHY WE LIKE HIM SO MUCH
Though far from "accurate", this series appeals to me for a number of reasons.
It even sports the same color scheme as Walt's does. ;-)
Love the show, LOVE the books!!
One of the best series in a long time. Classic all the way around.
I am among the swooners!
He's made much about the TV version of Walt not being funny but I found him hysterical at times. Sure he didn't crack jokes but he gave the impression of being very grounded and therefore well placed to point out life's foibles.
