Remember: it's not about who did it better or worse, but how much they matter WHEN they emerge from the shadows. Thank you for watching! And don't forget about your homework from the end of the video!
The irony of re-releasing a video about comparing Osmund Saddler to Osmund Saddler is not lost on me. Still one of my favorite videos of yours to listen to, though. How stories change over time to line up with modern consensus is always interesting to think about. Of all villains who've had a similar treatment, I think the one that sticks out to me most is the reimagining of Doc Ock in Spider-man PS4. Anyone with a passing knowledge of Marvel will recognize Peter's boss in in an instant, but the story gives him such a fantastic human element and a very believable downward spiral to bring him to the villain he ends up being by the end. Comic book villains are no stranger to being revamped every so often (The Joker is a shining example of this, as malleable and changing as he is in every iteration, for better or worse) but Octavius's slow slide into depression and despair at a world who punishes him for trying to do good was an amazing (and sadly, relatable) modern take on the character and it's stuck with me for a while.
For all it's worth, not lost on me, either, just trying not to think about it too much. Oh my GOD you're right on Otto! My main introduction to him was via Raimi/Molina, and while I LOVE the movie, the game really gives his entire arc time to cook, especially in its established and familiar setting, like you said. Tragic villain done beautifully. The slow-burn of the longer game was absolutely to his benefit in that iteration, where the movie version was very much in service to Peter's arc. Both great in their own way. 🐙
