    If your waistbands on skirts are getting too loose, you can always double up the ribbing for the waistband, fold it over, then run a piece of waistband elastic through the space you've created, then sew the elastic to the inside of the ribbing and sew the ribbing closed. I made a circle skirt using this method, and, even though the yarn I made it out of is heavy, it doesn't fall down or stretch out.

    • @crystalzapata19
      @crystalzapata19 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Is there a video you’d recommend watching so I can try this! I’ve been waiting to make skirts and add elastic but I’m more of a visual learning

    • @xinestraw7781
      @xinestraw7781 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@crystalzapata19unfortunately I made it up! But I would suggest trying out making a skirt without a well-supported waistband first to test it out (I really like skater skirt patterns which you can find a lot of videos for online), then sorta play with the way you want to make your skirts. I would also recommend just watching part 1 of The Stitchery’s adjustable split-side skirt tutorial where she discusses skirt construction so that you can decide how you want to make a skirt (what shape you want, waistband, etc. it’s technically a sewing pattern but I really think understanding construction of skirts will help with making them.) Then, I’d suggest trying out making a skirt with a drawstring to see if you like that for the waistband. Tons of videos for that online too. For the waistband method I prefer, I have considered making a video if there would be interest, but it’s a fairly simple process. The fun things about skirts is that you can really customize how you want to build the, since they’re basically just doing rows in a circle. I hope that helps!

    thank you for showing your mistakes. I know I would make the exact same mistakes doing this if you hadn't! I really hate the sewing machine so I don't think that's going to happen any time soon but this really helped for when I want to tackle lining knit/crochet.

    I absolutely love this vlog. So many crochet blogs lean heavy on the aesthetics and showing sped up footage of crochet. You talk more and explain your process and that is my favorite. I like to listen to blogs while doing other stuff like crocheting and having a hang out with you makes my day.
    Thank you so much for your content.

    That’s why I had to stop knitting, the strain on my wrist and fingers was too much. So I just gave up on that.
    Crocheting…I take very long breaks and just stop because I get cramps in my fingers/hands. But since watching your channel you had me running to Michaels and Walmart for yarn. So I’m just refreshing myself and making a mesh hat for my locs. Take breaks so my hands won’t stress either.
    I always wanted to learn how to use a sewing machine…the world is endless once you could master it!

    There is an old saying: "If you fail to plan: you plan to fail" but what young person does everything right the first time?
    Sometimes you learn more from your mistakes than you do from your successes.
    You remind me of my younger self - so eager to complete something so I could use it/wear it/gift it or show it off etc.. 🙃🙂
    You've learnt how to use a sewing machine, how to line a crocheted and uneven shaped bag requiring intermediate to advanced sewing skills.
    So, as someone once said, "All's well that ends well"

    Always remember to add seam allowance, ironing the fabric will seriously make such a huge difference and make sewing a THOUSAND times easier(trust it seems so small but it makes everything easier and look so much cleaner too) and always try and pin with the pins perpendicular to the machine so they slide out easier!
    Also when doing corners or rounded edges or anything like that cut little slits(notches) into the fabric before you sew it and it won’t bunch up and will lay super flat and clean and make sewing a lot easier as well!

    hey girly, i dont know if anyone already said this, but it will be easier to first sew the lining of the jacket as a whole before connecting it to the crochet. if you copy the measurements of the crochet jacket and make a new "jacket"out of the lining fabric, you can put the two together wrong sides together and just sew the outer borders. or glue the outer borders of the two with fabric glue if you dont want seams to show. thank your for this video, i crocheted along with it

    Be patient with the learning process for sewing. It is a very different crafter vs crochet, but you will figure it out just like you did with knitting.
    To save some frustration, cut things larger. Easier to take things in our trim excess off.
    For the jacket, you can use a seam ripper from the fabric side to carefully cut the stitching, and use a lint roller or tape to pull any leftover threads out of the yarn.
    You got this!

    Personally, i sew all the granny sqaures in a 2D way so that the bag could be completely laid flat on a table and couldnt hold anything (like a blanket). Then i cut the fabric in the shape of the flat bag. Then i sew the lining on, then i stitch the bag together so that at that moment it could hold something ☺️

    🧵The sewing machine is so cute , u should totally cover it in stickers. You did amazing even if u only lined one bag.
    🪡My mom has a sewing machine she bought 2yrs ago she still hasn't taken it out of the box so dw both are sewing machine are collecting dust😂 It's bigger than your one but I hope someday I can learn how to use it like you!
    📹You should totally make a separate channel for vlogs and gaming that would be great idea.
    🐶Maki is such a cute dog 🥺!
    🌈21:37 I could listen to you talk all day 🤭
    ⚖️Honestly I just loved seeing you go back to old projects and fixing any missing or adding anything on to them.
    💐The trousers look great and will look amazing when u get to making the top, the top and the maxi skirt looks amazing, and the last top u made looks great on you.

    It's great you're trying out the sewing machine! My guess on why you got so tired after using it is that you tried something new and focused quite hard on it--that usually takes a lot more effort and energy because you just aren't used to it yet! It will get better with time :) In the beginning of my crochet journey crocheting did the same to me; but now it is a way to relax and have fun because I've gained enough experience to actually relax my mind while doing it. And yeah, knitting wears on you in a different way, maybe because you need to hold all of the fabric/project up at all times while in crochet it can "hang" from one stitch? Who knows.
    Also; you mentioned that zigzag sewing is commonly used in bags and such, and that's likely true. The zigzagging allows for more stretchy-ness while the "straight" sewing makes for a sturdier, more immobile stitch, at least in my experience. You will likely see a button or such on your sewing machine which lets you set how big the stitches are, and that will also impact how stretchy the final piece will be. I also think I saw that you're trying to sew on satin fabric on the coat, and that's quite well known for being tricky to sew, so I'd definitely look up a video for sewing that in particular.
    Sorry for rambling, but I hope I said something helpful haha. Anyways, a great video as always :) I love your content and would love to see some gaming on a second channel!
