John Benham's incredibly quick Moto Guzzi Le Mans at North Weald 2010

  • The quickest John has run to date is 11.2 at 121mph
    John also tells me he bought the Guzzi in 1981 and has therefore been enjoying it for over thirty years and caning it over the quarter mile for over 25 years.
    He goes on to say: "I am pleased that I developed the bike to run respectable times reliably and consistently in road going trim but would like to fine tune the current build with feedback to enable this from my planned garage dyno"

    Amazing what you can do with a light tractor engine. :) I want my old V50 back. And the bendy knees to get on it. :(

    Reminds me of being at the Bulldog bash many years ago running against Harleys & beating them on my Mk II Le Mans. I'm currently restoring it & have done a lot of tuning work. But I don't think that I'm going to be anywhere near that level of tune!

    Is this bikes reg WCE730T MY OLD BATTLE OF THE TWINS RACER?
    Cosworth pisons Dr John cam etc I spent my youth on

      @godfreydarling5956 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I once owned an ex battle of the twins le mans 1 too. Mine was a S reg one. Jack Gs from Dundee. Believed it had bigger carbs without chokes (you just flooded them) big bore barrels and an Imola cam and bigger valves or different cylinder head?? It also had straight through exhausts. It once broke off almost half an exhaust valve face which I found with a torch resting in the pipe. Filed off the dings on the piston crown and ground in a new valve and she did another 15,000 miles before I stupidly sold her. On a cold day she would not start without the sump oil being heated up so was not handy when away from home.

    would be quicker without the Guzzi gear change delay!

      @paulj6662 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make a heel n toe pedal, then just stomp it up a gear, of all the mods this one was the best. cheap n simple, never miss an upshift again.

      @BanjoLuke1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But.... It wouldn't be a Guzzi. I used to love that lost little moment of bewilderment between selection and engaging. It felt somehow aristocratic.... "You folk can thrash around on your whizz-bang Japanese superbikes, but this old tugboat will change gear when it's ready to change gear..."
      Perhaps not ideal for the quarter mile or the track.... But sublime everywhere else.

      @@BanjoLuke1 you could always 'Convert' it. Britain's fastest automatic motorcycle.

      @@DaveWatts_ejectamenta ha ha ha..... A greatly underrated and hugely, unfairly maligned motorcycle. Limited in its way, but a superb cover of ground. And yes.... One could 'convert' it. Ha ha.
