I've had such a negative experience buying professional 16 mm cameras online. A broken ARRI SR1, a completely destroyed CP 16, and a defunct NPR later..I'm really happy that it worked out for you. super jealous. Happy Shooting!

The format was invented by a late friend of mine, Rune Ericson. In the early days one had to be careful that the lab didn’t scratch the extended part of the image but by now I imagine all have had the rollers updated. Great format for 16x9 even though that standard wouldn’t exist for another 20+ years!

@@nkosiroma Yes, the K-3 can produce great, pro level results. Due to its limitations, it's very hard to film dialog. My idea is doing a digital mockup first, edit it until I'm happy with it and then shoot the same thing on locatiuon and on film. This way you only shoot what you need, since the final edit already exists. This on the othyer hand doesn't allow for improvisation. I still think the digital mockup is the best choice when on a very tight budget.

Im a first AC in LA. I bought an Aaton xtr prod about 2 years ago. Still haven’t Dp’d with it lol. Stuck in the ac cycle. But it’s probably shot about 15 music videos I’ve rented it on.

*Hello Fellow Brother in Christ. I pray you will receive an Arriflex 416 Super 16 mm camera. This was the very last in a series of studio production Super 16 mm motion picture cameras made by Arriflex before they ceased all further production and development of 16 mm based motion picture cameras. This camera could use allot of 35 mm lenses and accessories interchangably with the Arri 435 35 mm motion picture camera. The 416 was noiseless running, self blimped, computer controlled with built in color video tap and speed regulation. This was the only 16 mm motion picture camera which produced images on 16 mm negative which actually approached 35 mm quality. This was especially true if you used Eastman 5245 ASA 50 Daylight negative film in it. The SR 2 Super 16 is a great production camera, and many network TV series were shot on this camera. The SR 3 was even quieter and many wildlife series were shot on the HS (High Speed) version of this camera along with specially configured 800 foot super magazines lubricated to run in minus 40 plus degree Farenhieght temperatures. A famous Academy Award winning wildlife feature epic film on Emperor Penguins was shot on the SR3 version of this camera.*
This was randomly reccomended to me but wow! Such an awesome story of how you got the camera! I love the look of film and I hope to one day shoot on it and possiibly even get my own film camera. But this was such a great video on the SR2!
I had it serviced last year because it needed a belt replaced. I think if it's being used regularly it should be serviced once a year or two just to check up on everything. These cameras are tanks though, so they really don't need too much work to keep them running.
If you’re right up to the subject you’ll hear it, but if you’re at a normal distance it shouldn’t be too noticeable. I haven’t had much experience with sound and film yet, but I will absolutely share my thoughts when I can make an on set BTS style video.
Cool video man. What movie have your favorite cinematography? For me, probably the original “Rocky”. I love how they were able to capture the grittiest of Philadelphia and the long continuous shots.

The 416 is newer with more integrations for modern aks, but both will give you the same image with the same lens. I believe the SR3 HS can shoot higher frame rates than any of the 416 models.

Yes, it absolutely will ruin the film if you do this with unexposed stock. This was just a dummy roll, so I figured I could show what happens under the lid for the video.

The 416 is newer with more integrations for modern aks, but both will give you the same image with the same lens. I believe the SR3 HS can shoot higher frame rates than any of the 416 models.

Yes, it absolutely will ruin the film if you do this with unexposed stock. This was just a dummy roll, so I figured I could show what happens under the lid for the video.
