This does take place in Louisiana, BUT every scene was shot in FLORIDA. 😂 Their house was on the Palatlakaha River, and then they used FSC, Stetson, and the Citrus Bowl (Camping World Stadium). After filming completed they decided they needed an aerial shot and used Williams-Brice Stadium, as the aerial view for the final game.
Airboat scenes were filmed in the Lake County chain of lakes around the corner from where I grew up. Good times taking jet skis out those days to observe from a fair distance
I think Kathy Bates is underrated in this. Don't get me wrong, Sandler is iconic as Bobby and plays it to perfection, but I think Kathy Bates had a tougher role. She had to be funny, over the top, with just a splash of overprotective enough to deserve some hate. Then she has this quick but strong character growth enough to feel redeemed. It just feels like a lot to fit into one movie, but Kathy nails it! Also, Vicky is a ride or die and I love that for Bobby.
Is a great one in his collection. One that I never hear people talk about though and is in my opinion, his best dramatic role is "Reign Over Me". That movie is so, so good and was years before Uncut Gems.
To this day, I think the most unrealistic part of this movie is that the guys who spit in the water didn’t get beaten to death by the other players.

The best part about her portrayal is that it feels real, like, you could find many people like her if you looked. It seemed authentic
