  • Jagna, Bohol, the Philippines is about 2 hours from Tagbilaran City, Bohol. It has 2 hospitals, ferry service to other islands including Camiguin and CDO (Cagayan de Oro). Several hotel and pension houses and a nice public market.

    I like those "trikes". They are the style used in CDO and have 4 wheels. I've seen them in John's videos from Camiguin also. They might be a little less likely to tip over when the driver takes a hard right turn.

    • @AmazingPhilippines1
      @AmazingPhilippines1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every region and manufacturer has a little different style ricky and these seem as efficient for space as any I have seen. They can get a lot of freight and people in one and on top so the weight could really make the little bikes work.

    I just spent 3 1/2 weeks in Bohol -- very nice place. I did a lot of shopping in Jagna while going back and forth between Anda and my in laws in Mabini... the one thing I did learn, again, is that there are NO traffic laws in Bohol -- well, there are, but no police to enforce them. I was amazed at how many motorcycles go with no rear lights, OR no lights at all. Quite often I went to pass someone, and a headlight comes out of no where -- then went off again and a motorcycle passed.
    McDonald's there was WAY TOO BUSY -- have to pay 20 pesos to park there -- very nice, and two level, but still too small for what they need there.

    • @AmazingPhilippines1
      @AmazingPhilippines1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One needs to be especially careful when driving here especially at night as you have found out. There is virtually no enforcement of traffic. I heard Cebu City was "deputizing" 400 people to help enforce traffic rules here in the city.

    Another really good video. I have been planning my next exploratory trip to the Philippines and am interested in going to Bohol to give it a look see. The last time I was in the Philippines , I spent much of my time in Cebu with a couple of side trips to Tagbilaran. This video opened up my eyes and your use of the map convinced me this would be very doable. I will be traveling to Jagna. My only concern , No Jollibee in Jagna.
    Rod, that just might be the deal breaker for a retirement destination as far as I am concerned.

    You're correct about the milk probably. They have the skinniest cows I have ever seen. And some fruits they don't have the proper climate for, like apples. But as far as tropical fruits and vegetables I don't understand why they don't exploit their land resources to grow more for export to countries that don't have the climate to grow them. I see so much open land where they could grow acres and acres of food.

    • @AmazingPhilippines1
      @AmazingPhilippines1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree Larry. I think the agricultural sector should be doing much more. There is some government effort to "educate" farmers. So many of the farms are very small. Some larger corporate farms run into issues with the NPA communists who demand money or they burn their equipment in some areas.

    Very much appreciate this on the ground look at the market. It points to the fact that inflating prices are unavoidable everywhere. I now have the price of carrots etched in my mind. Here in San Diego County I'm purchasing carrots for .33 / pound but I must confess that is my very best price now and to get a smile from the clerk I need to bring my chisel along. LOL! Mostly I'm kidding 😂. To live in Paradise you need to pay the price. Those ears of corn look like jumbo ears they were amazingly large... These videos are so casual yet informative at the same time! • @AmazingPhilippines1
      @AmazingPhilippines1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Philippines exports pineapple, coconuts, cacao, and bananas Larry. I think the agricultural sector is generally not very efficient here and there is an effort to educate farmers on better techniques. We import 90% of our milk. We sometimes have to import rice as too much rain or drought decreases harvest. Some of the produce comes from other countries as well. Apples and oranges from Australia, New Zealand, and Japan for instance.

    What frame rate do you have your GoPro set to? It's a little jerky along the edges...is it 30fps or 60 fps? 1020 or 4K?

    Great vid rod, even though that wet market showing fish heads, eyes staring back at you, and the joints of pigs almost made me want to throw up

      if I were you man,you should check the towns of calape or clarin,cuz these towns are close to tubigon ..... tubigon is considered 1 of the big towns in bohol island ( the other 3 are carmen,jagna & ubay) & tubigon isn't far from cebu also, it's just an hour and a half small ferry ride to cebu city (in case, you're bored in a small town or you need something that you can't find there then just hop a ferry to cebu cuz since it isn't far anyway) ..... anyway, going towards the city of tagbilaran, (the capital of bohol) calape is the next town after tubigon & going towards the opposite direction is the town of clarin after tubigon ...... good luck ...... mabuhay !!!!!!

      There are several towns on Bohol with potential Clark as Johnnie has stated. We went through each of them and I would probably put the Tubigon area on top of my list as it is close to Tagbilaran and short ride to Cebu City.

    Are all the nice beaches private? Went there for a day or two and just hung out at the resorts even tho I wasn't staying there. IIRC we paid for admission but that was 10 years ago.

      Many of the nicer beaches on Mactan Island next to Cebu City are private but there are many nice public beaches in the Philippines. I can't name them though. Day use fees vary greatly.

    Hi again. I've heard about some incidents of Islamic bandits in speedboats sailing up to the Southwest of the island (beach resorts) and trying to kidnap foreigners. Any truth to that?

      A few years ago there was a group that came up. One was from the area I think. The locals reported them and in the end they were all eliminated holed up in a cave I think Michael.

      The drought of several months may be affecting prices but I am not sure. Much of this comes in from other islands and some from other countries. You may be able to negotiate a bit for some items.

      That raw fish and clams are very questionable. Not probably cooled and can lead to food poisoning and a hospital visit
