    Great video, I like your comment on home flippers. Some people want a fast cheap install for selling homes and that's understandable. I love that you know the difference and know exactly what to offer each person you install for.

    I glue every seam with carpet adhesive over concrete , as well as the walls where I cut to the smoothedge. Same practice with staples ( hammer tacker, not carpet staples) when I'm on wood subfloor. If you fail to this your seams will rip , fold , overlap etc, and also the pad will exceed your smoothedge, which not only looks terrible, but sacrifices a good stretch and grab . Good video

    The brown tape did it with our new carpet the same day it was installed. The staples created air pockets under the tape and it made the same sound. The point of the tape is to provide a water penetration barrier where the water-resistant padding has seams. You can't rely on staples or glue for this. I'm surprised a noise-less water resistant tape isn't made for the carpet industry.

    Nice video! I've seen this before with pad tape as well. With the newer pads with vapor or stain barrier manufacturers want a taped seam, and duct tape is what you need. One call back would cost you more then a years worth of spending extra on duct tape

      I use duct tape for all pad seams. Most of the pad we use has the moisture barrier and require the seams to be taped.
      How ever, the tape you show in this video...your exactly right. Dont use cheep tape!

      FloorsbySouthernboys been catching up on your videos when I have time. Because of you I'm pretty confident I can fix it. Really need to rent a carpet stretcher and the video you did on how to cut carpet by separating the fibers will make the difference. I have this carpet that has a very tough underneath part. Its thick. Feels like cutting leather. But I was trying to cut through the carpet fibers at the same time. I see what you were saying. Great videos. Very informative and helpful. Its not just entertainment. I really appreciate your filming and explanations.

    What is the point of using tape

  • @cruzjorge064

    Each installer has had their experience. I always use masking tape on concrete or regular sub floors and never had this kind of problem.

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jorge408 Yeah unfortunately it takes a few years for the tape to dry out and start making this noise, so it’s not noticeable when you install it, however it could be that this was in Tucson Arizona where is very dry

      Duct tape and pad tape works well. I only use it with moisture barrier carpet as directed. However, I have a different observation. A cheap duct tape (utility grade) will sometimes release and crinkle anyway. I've returned to 2 jobs because of this. Also, I've pulled up seasoned carpets that have ridges every 6 feet where the padding was taped. It's like the padding wears everywhere except under the taped seams.

    Hi, I am in need of some assistance. Would you be so kind to help me. The tape is exactly what I found in my brand new built home. What are your thoughts?

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manda Wu If you are really concerned about it I would hire someone to come and remove it and use duct tape and then reinstall the carpet

    What kind of glue do you use for the seams?

  • @opticsrus9981
    @opticsrus9981 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You should always glue your seems and edges. The tape is just there to hold the pad seems together while the carpet is installed and the padding doeasn't shift! We don't have all night for the glue to dry! And I have 23 years of carpet laying experience.

    Tape won't let the pad & carpet 'breath'.
    Will sometimes appear as a seam, telegraphing.

    Duct tape is the best solution. And it also is great for cuts, better than band aids.
