I always get hung up on the ‘protect your daughters’ because they don’t do the same thing for trans men and young boys. There’s some underlying sexism there.
I mean it does make sense based on context to say these things gender specific (not bc it’s less important that (cis/trans) boys are protected or it’s not as bad when SA happens to them but rather bc things like grooming and SA happens way more with women and girls, or things like child marriage etc.). But if you talk about “protect our daughters” in a context that clearly wants to paint trans ppl for example as predators it’s like… y’all act as if girls safety is important to, yet y’all do nothing against the biggest predator group which are (straight) men. (Of course the problem is not genetic but socialization of men - bc SA/DV definitely is a gender specific crime). Soo… doing nothing against sexism/misogyny but still acting as if the safety of daughters is important to you. BS.
Also they seem to miss that their "solution" where people have to use the facilities matching their birth assigned sex means they're actually PUTTING men in women's facilities because trans men will be forced into women's bathrooms and changing areas. It's like they completely forget there are trans people that aren't women...
It's the blatant manipulation of language that always gets me. They'll define a woman as an adult human female but then almost exclusively discuss their transphobic views using "girls" and "men". There could be a 18 year old cis woman and a 13 year old transgirl and they would still call the cis woman a "girl" and the trans girl a "man" because so much of their bs relies on the false idea that adult cis men are posing as women to attack underaged cis girls.
They say, as they use the blatantly political term: "cis". Honestly, one thing that scare me is that we don't even talk the same anymore, you can tell what someone believes anymore just by the words they use.
Also, if the risk of rape is a non-issue, why do you think gendered bathrooms existed to begin with? Its almost like men and women are different, and their are alot of men that are creeps, perverts, and much, much worse. I get that progressives want a better world, but do you guys think about what would happen if something went wrong?
My thought with the Fox News quote "Protect our daughters! All children deserve a safe childhood!": Yes! All children do deserve a safe childhood and we do need to protect our daughters! Trans children deserve to feel safe and accepted, including trans daughters! Accepting our children regardless of their gender and if they're trans or not protects them all from feeling less than and anything else.
Exactly what I was thinking! "Protect our children" - Yes, especially our LGBTI+ children. "Protect women" - Yes, especially trans women. Plus, trans men and NB / GF folk exist!!!!

Transphobia by its very nature is predatory behaviour. Transphobes are predators. And not in the cool science of action movie sense. They are predatory people who set out to hurt people on purpose. And they are obsessed with genitals.
What about "predatory men" who SA young boys or other men( even gay men). Do they deserve that sort of treatment too? It's as if only women are victims and that's not true in the least!
It also ignores the fact that women can be the perpetrators too. It's about power and control over another, and has nothing to do with orientation or gender identity.

14:00-15:16 My little brother was perscribed puberty blockers for precocious puberty. Do they really think that doctors are perscribing things that arent FDA approved? Or do they think that new medications don't need to be tested a million ways from Sunday to get FDA approval?
They literally claim that since the same meds used as puberty blockers are _also_ used in treatment of some end-stage hormone-responding cancers, the mortality rate associated with taking these meds (which is high due to the whole "end-stage cancer" thing) is an inherent property of the meds and so anyone taking them as puberty blockers/delayers must also be subject to the same mortality rate. It's category-essentialism; the same bad reasoning that leads to "we categorize trans women with cis men, so trans women by definition have the same SA rates as cis men" and more generally "there's a statistical difference between these two categories, therefore the exact details about where we've chosen to divide the categories is an absolute reality and the difference in averages is a property of every member of the categories."
Yep, I am a cis man, and I was on a blocker for 7 years as a kid for adrenal hyperplasia (I showed signs of entering precocious puberty when I was 6). There was zero controversy in the early 2000s when I was on them.
I mean some transphobes have argued that 6 year old trans kids with precocious puberty should be denied blockers and forced to go through puberty way too early "to teach them a lesson". So I think that question can be truncated at "Or do they think?".
These same people will claim that it's unnatural or unhealthy for trans kids to delay puberty until the age of 15 or 16 (when they can start hormone therapy), ignoring the fact that many cis kids go through puberty late, too, and that it's well known in the medical community that going through puberty late doesn't result in any negative health outcomes, in cis or trans kids. I'm cis and I didn't get my first period until I was 15. Temporarily, delayed puberty does cause some differences from normally developing peers (including temporarily lower bone density), but in the end, the only difference is that people who go through puberty late tend to be a bit taller (personally, I'm about 2 inches taller than my fraternal twin sister who went through puberty on a more typical timeline 😁).
It's always a three-line dialogue: Person: Okay, there's this word, "woman," that isn't quite as clearly defined as you seem to be assuming... Transphobe: No, it's simple! "Woman" just means "adult human female." Person: Okay, so there are these three words...

Regarding the "twins" billboard, if I remember correctly, the photos are of the same guy. Also, do these people think that if parents have twins they decide, "well I guess we have to raise one to be gay". Twins are raised together, so whatever parents do to one, they usually do to the other. 🤷🤦🙄
Maybe the twins were in different classes and the teacher taught one of them to be gay. /s Idk, man.. bigoted people seem to not think things through all the way.. like they don't want trans women in women's bathrooms, but they would probably also not happy with a bearded trans man in there either - since by their logic trans men are women. Really interesting science and research behind twins and sexuality! That billboard is entirely incorrect. Comparisons in studies have been made to look at the concordance rates for sexuality in identical and fraternal twins. An interesting difference is that the rates are over 100% higher for identical twins than fraternal twins, the rate for identical twins being roughly 25-50%, and the rate for fraternal twins being around 9-22%. This is taken to mean that genetic factors do, in fact, play a role in sexual orientation, considering identical twins have the same genetic makeup as each other, and fraternal twins do not. Studies show that the main factors that go into this are genetic and environmental, meaning that yes, it is natural.
There's an adjacent interesting study (about gay people), where straight people with gay opposite-gender siblings end up on average having more children than straight people with straight opposite-gender siblings or straight people without siblings. The evolutionary theories floating around are that gay and trans people have genes that are beneficial in human reproduction when it lands on straight people; genes that makes someone seek out male or female partners more actively than the norm and thus get first pick of good partners, and genes that make someone more masculine or feminine, enhancing their attractiveness as partners. Basically, it's advantageous traits that turn out harmless when it's expressed in non cishet humans and just one of the many, many, MANY quirks in our DNA.
Similar twin studies done on trans people have found a 20-40% concordance, which is statistically significant, and does suggest a likely genetic factor.
Yep. Like by their logic you can't be born with an autoimmune condition. Because I know someone who was born with an autoimmune condition whose twin was not. Actual analysis of the original(?) Hebrew condemns rape. "A large portion of Leviticus 18 proscribes the divine condemnation of incest. Initially, the relationship of Lev. 18:22 to incest in Lev. 18:6-17 is not obvious, especially in comparison to Lev. 18:18-23. The comparison of Lev. 18:22 to the repetition of miškevē ‘iššâ(“lyings of a woman”) in Lev 20:13, uncovers a parallel relationship to incest. While Leviticus 18 focuses on the forbidden sexual relationships, Leviticus 20 focuses on the punishment for participating in such relationships. The laws are reordered in Leviticus 20 to emphasize consequences of deviant relationships. Themiškevē ‘iššâis an act that is punished identically to other acts that are clearly incestuous. Therefore, the likely meaning of miškevē ‘iššârefers more to incestuous male-male rape as opposed to all erotic, same-sex relationships."

It really grinds my gears when people say trans children don't exist. How the hell do you think trans adults exist??? Do you think they spawn fully formed???
Oh no, they think adults just wake up one day and decide to be trans. But kids are too young to know if they are trans so therefore trans kids don't exist. Even though by that logic kids are too young to know if they are cis. Because if you can't know if you're trans, you can't know if you're cis. But if you point that out you get called a groomer.
"All children deserve a safe childhood." Absolutely agree that every single child deserves a safe & happy childhood & that includes kids who are no cis &/or straight. Something that always annoys me is when a homophobe or transphobe saying that they just want kids be kids yet what they usually mean is let them be kids that are forced into gender roles instead of actually letting them be themselves. There's nothing wrong with if a child wants to play with a toy that is considered to match their perceived gender. However, it's wrong when they're forced to do it simply because of their gender. What a lot of people with the mindset that child are getting indoctrinated or pushed into being gay, trans, non-binary, etc fail to understand is that letting kids express themselves as who they are, dressing in clothing they like, playing with toys they like, etc is actually letting them be themselves & not indoctrination. U know what is actually indoctrination? Forcing kids to fit themselves into a gender role or gender stereotypes based solely on their gender
Huh?? You keep bringing up kids but "kids" can't do lots of things like holding full time jobs, joining the military, smoking, drinking, getting married, getting tattoos, driving cars, and so many other things. Children aren't oppressed, they have been given in Western society a space to develop into adults. You keep saying kids but kids is a protected category.
Yep. Especially when they argue that "kids are too young to know if they are trans or not". Because by that logic, if you don't know if you're trans, you don't know if you're cis. So should all kids be forced onto puberty blockers until 18 when they are "old enough" to know if they are trans? I've been constantly "informed" that if I "just wait for puberty you'll grow out of it and be glad you didn't mutilate yourself". Yeah, puberty was torture, like I literally said that all the time when I was going through it (and got laughed at by every adult), and also over half my life ago, I think it's a bit late. I was forced to conform to my assumed gender and no one had a problem with that, even though I was miserable.
@waffles3629 That's horrible. I'm sorry you had to endure going through that and not being able to be yourself. What blows my mind is that we've been using puberty blockers for years for cis kids, so why would it be any different for a trans kid. Let them go on puberty blockers, and if they discover they're not trans they can just stop taking them and go through puberty. If they are trans then we do less harm by letting them continue the process of transitioning however far they want to go. I also hate the whole "mutilating your body" bs because then you would have to say that just about any surgery is "mutilating your body." It's all just nonsense to hate on people for being themselves & it's disgusting that they're using kids to push these horrible beliefs

The funny thing to me is that religious folk always say “it’s apart of gods plan” towards everything, and yet somehow the LGBTQ+ isn't? If god was such a powerful being he could’ve just willed queer and trans people out of existence, no? Not to mention that god themself transcends the human concepts of sex, yet is typically referred to by male pronouns. God also doesn’t have a defined sexuality either. The whole concept of religion being against queer and trans folk is just so incredibly ridiculous, and is only used to spread hate.
Any Christian who says, "Love the sinner, hate the sin," when referring to homosexuality should be reminded of the two commandments of Christ. These two commandments give the lie to the anti-gay passages of the Old Testament and the grossly mistranslated passages of the New Testament which extremists have caused to be perceived as anti-gay. Thus, according to Christ, there is no sin in homosexuality, and, surely, Christians should be listening to Him rather than base prejudice.
why try to extract meaning out of dictionary definitions, that is the most neutral source you can try to derive bigotry out of, it’s like trying to squeeze bullshit outta stone goddamn
Dictionaries are also constantly updating their definitions to reflect changes in words are actually used. Like, look up "words that are their own antonyms"; words are completely contextual
Really proud to say that the LGBTQ has such kind and intelligent activists! Your channel is such a safe space, thank you for sharing your views in such a constructive way!
I really hate the 'adult human female' thing not just because it's transphobic, but because all it does is change the argument being had from deining woman to defining female
It's good rhetoric though. If you try to answer the question then you automatically lose the debate, because you're painting yourself as as an out-of-touch academic with no common sense. It's a good debate trick: Ask what seems like a simple question but really isn't, then make your opponent look dumb because they can't give a simple answer.
Not sure if it was Rowan Ellis or another TH-camr that did a breakdown of the 3 words. No universally accepted age of "adulthood"...the issue you pointed out with female being just as fraught with questions. And the history of treating marginalized groups as "less than human." Totally diff video (forgetting even a ballpark guess on that youtuber) made the great linguistic point that human brains tend to define things by grouping examples, because it can be hard to come up with universal definitions for many words. Hence that time GL was asked to give a chair definition, and people pointed out a horse fit his definition
@@ekrtznekrtz5229 You don't. It's a word with a lot of edge cases, and that tends to vary over time. Two hundred years ago, people could be considered adults and ready to marry at sixteen. Their idea of woman would be considered a girl today. The term 'female' has different definitions not just in biology and in anthropology, but in different fields of biology as well. It's a deceptively complicated question.

As I'm trying to watch this lightheartedly and get my mind off of negativity, today is a very sad day for me. We had a president election in Finland and a right winged president won, and the main reason to that is because his opponent was a gay man. So people voted for the other option just because they don't want a gay president. Some days I just really feel hopeless
They are trying to pass a bunch of these anti trans laws, here in Iowa. Tomorrow, they are trying to pass one that would make trans people have to have their gender and their gender identity on their birth certificates. It goes to subcommittee tomorrow. Regarding safety trials for puberty blockers: Presumably those trials were conducted before those medications were first used for precocious puberty, decades ago. Asking for safety trials NOW is like asking for safety trials for aspirin every time someone has a headache.
Yep, like it's puberty blockers, they stop puberty. Doesn't really matter why you want it to stop, it's already been determined safe to use to stop puberty. Efficacy trials if it was being used for a new reason, sure, that would make sense, but trans people are still using them for puberty.

My schools in Western Australia took it even further than that. First grade had 1 unisex bathroom (for the 2 classes of year 1s), from years 2 to 7 had 6 bathrooms across the school, boys and girls, and then split into year groups (2+3, 4+5, 6+7). And high school was the same: boys and girls bathrooms for lower (years 8-10) and upper school (years 11+12), so there wouldn't be any year 12s in the same bathroom with a year 8. And teachers had their own bathroom

Yeah, I'd be uncomfortable with my daughter having to use changing rooms with men. If I had a trans daughter, I'd absolutely want her to be safe and be in the women's changing room where she belongs. She wouldn't belong in the men's room any more than I as a trans dude belong in the women's. As for our nonbinary friends, the pool in my hometown actually had three changing rooms: men's, women's, and mixed, which was for families and anyone could go in.

The thing that annoys me the most about the transphobic ads about toilets (except them calling trans women men) is the manipulation. They talk about MEN (aka adults) in GIRLS (aka kids) toilets. This is a very manipulative phasing and I hate it. I always get hung up on the ‘protect your daughters’ because they don’t do the same thing for trans men and young boys. There’s some underlying sexism there.
Trust me its not underlying its in all of our faces
Aren't they supposed to be the one who (will) protect? A warrior's training starts early!
@@infamousgrizzly1358that's not odin
It's the blatant manipulation of language that always gets me. They'll define a woman as an adult human female but then almost exclusively discuss their transphobic views using "girls" and "men". There could be a 18 year old cis woman and a 13 year old transgirl and they would still call the cis woman a "girl" and the trans girl a "man" because so much of their bs relies on the false idea that adult cis men are posing as women to attack underaged cis girls.

@@Giuliana-w1f *stares at Catholic Church*…

#2 a male who decides to wear makeup, dresses, long hair and high heels is not a woman
#3 A male who takes puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and get mutilating genitalia surgeries are not women.
#4 a transwomen is NOT a woman
#5 a women is ONLY an adult human female
#6 no, humans have not evolved, science has not changed, and humans are binary with only males and females. ( that is why people can be BISEXUAL and there are also nonBINARY people, and transgender people always become the TWO OPPOSITE SEXES because there are only two sexes, males and females). We are binary.
#7 all males and that includes straights, gays, transwomen, bisexual, heterosexual and homosexuals MALES should never be allowed in all females spaces including schools, prisons, jails,BATHROOMS, restrooms, locker rooms, sports, athletic competitions and gynecology offices.
#8 transwomen should NEVER see gynecologist because transwomen have prostate glands, bulbo urethral glands and semineferous tubules. Gynecologist are not trained on these male organs that 100% all transwomen have in their male bodies. NICE!
#9 calling a male she/her pronouns does not make that person become a women. No no and hell no
#10 no human male can breast feed baby or give birth to babies.
#11" Trans " is short for the word transitioning so we have Trans gender people. However, cis is not short for nothing and "cis" is not even a word at all. "Cis " is all about the chemical structure of molecules, and not human sexuality or gender at all.
#11 Stop calling people without mental illnesses " cis." Stop CISGENDERING straight people. Respect us. Call us natural females This is not up for debate. Got it?
Trans women are men pretending to be women, they're not women.

Some people might experience that and think that it was a choice the whole time then think they are “ex-gay” (not a real thing). I do think that it is a sad thing to not be able to accept yourself, or to force yourself to be different for others who aren’t accepting. It really grinds my gears when people say trans children don't exist. How the hell do you think trans adults exist??? Do you think they spawn fully formed???
Wait that’s NOT how it works?
Oh no, they think adults just wake up one day and decide to be trans. But kids are too young to know if they are trans so therefore trans kids don't exist. Even though by that logic kids are too young to know if they are cis. Because if you can't know if you're trans, you can't know if you're cis. But if you point that out you get called a groomer.
I refuse to give hormones and sex change to kids, it's dangerous
Exactly! I wish they would have let me be a Girl Scout. I'm still bitter about that 40 years later. I did not like playing with the boys.
@vinnrat I'm sure you would have appreciated it more than I did! I was in Cub Scouts for a couple of years, but it just wasn't my thing.

I also hate how they say "they're pushing the trans agenda on our children" when they're the one forcing religion on random people
Any Christian who says, "Love the sinner, hate the sin," when referring to homosexuality should be reminded of the two commandments of Christ.

@@ekrtznekrtz5229 It's just not a good definition, as two of the three words aren't well-defined themselves.

I'm so sorry. That sucks. Sending you well wishes and thoughts from the US.
That's really sad news. Sending many hugs from your neighbour country, Sweden.
That's horrible 😔😔 It's so sad to see "progressive" nations turning back the clock
They are trying to pass a bunch of these anti trans laws, here in Iowa. Tomorrow, they are trying to pass one that would make trans people have to have their gender and their gender identity on their birth certificates. It goes to subcommittee tomorrow. Then it would have to go to committee, etc. Hopefully, it doesn’t get passed subcommittee. They have several other anti trans bills that they are trying to pass through our (funnel week).
I love how usa conservatives scream about kids having a safe childhood but then do fuck all to prevent school shootings

It's strange that they keep saying "Men in girls' bathrooms" because it's makes it seem like there's just random men walking into school bathrooms.
Kinda accurate to how they see girls ngl. Submissive, young, easily manipulated
I think the most important thing is, if they're not teachers, there's a serious safe guarding issue with the school!

Maybe it’s different in the US but at my old schools here in QLD 🇦🇺, the staff had their own toilet. They did not use the same one as the students
I'm in the US, and although I think there was a single-occupancy restroom in the teachers' lounge, they mostly just used the same restrooms as the rest of us. I ran into my (male) teachers in the restroom all the time, and we would even talk about assignments and stuff.
@@electronics-girl Interesting, my school I went to till year 10 was a P-10, even the high school and primary school had their own toilet blocks because the primary toilets were shorter
@@coasttocoast2011 I was mostly talking about my high school (9-12), but I think it was the case in elementary school and junior high, as well. But I'm not as sure for those.
Every time I ask a homophobic Christian to show me the part of their bible which says that God doesn't like gay people they always send me the same screenshot of an online version of the bible.
Which leads me to feel that they can't find that part in their own version of the book, as in the actual one they believe in.

As someone from a country with stricter hate speech laws, it seriously baffles me to see adverts like those.
None of those would fly here, the people/companies putting them up would get a new a-hole tore up in a matter of days and the billboards would get defaced even faster.
Billboards is considered no place for opinion pieces and hate speech, here.

I dont know if this goes here but I have to vent. We just selected our next president in Finland and the reason why my candidate didn't win was because h0m0ph0bia. It was researched that 30-40% of my fellow countrymen dont like "his choice of partner" - that is his husband. The other candidate's choice in partner was not an issue...to anyone. It pisses me off. And I hope Stubb will realise that that is why he won.
Thank you for listening to my rant.
You are not the only one. I was so disgusted, when he "didn't have time" to comment about the poll where 40 % of his voters stated that the sexual orientation of the other candidate was a reason to vote for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he was in the next Pride burnishing his image just like the rest of his party threw a public hissy fit after they didn't manage to be behind the new trans law and Pride didn't accept them as official partner.
I'm too angry to go to sleep right now.
This just makes me so sad about the world that I'm about 6 mins in, and I already may need to click off and come back later when i feel stronger.
