    Staff don’t get stock options why would they give a s****t about financial forecasts and the future of the company? They just want a job to pay their mortgage, feed their families and lead a reasonable normal life. This culture of ‘we all in it together’ is absolute nonsense. Unless you are top management earning £100,000s you don’t have any skin in the game whatsoever.

      Head office staff get to buy stock and at discounted price, and part of their yearly bonus sometimes comes as stocks. Also, bonuses depend on financial results. So they care. Store employees might not be that bothered, although if the company performs poorly it could mean closing stores and letting go of staff. Generally speaking, when you work for a company, unless you know it's temporary, you care about its financial performance

    @12:13 That local shop owner raise a very good point about the threat of franchises ruining small local business which are the integral part of the community for long period. Customers often look for prices and convinience which such small shops can't compete with bigger supermarkets. But the role of small local business in a community is countless unlike supermarkets. We can see that social cohession from that elderly lady's opinion who visited, have a cup of coffee and some chat with the owner at that local shop. I hope their business doesn't affected much by the new supermarket.

    • @daheels5280

      people want one thing but do the other. If they really like the local business why do they buy at the franchise just because it's there? Why don't they keep buying at the local business? They want the lower prices and the convenience for themselves but they want everyone else to buy at the local business. It's a bit of hipocrisy

    • @tilethio
      @tilethio ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@daheels5280 Well, that is part of a human nature. We often like to switch to a new spots when open. Supermarkets often bring new advances of consumables since they have a large connection and research system. Most of those product are mass produced in a factory and a lot of preservatives which increase the riak to our health. On the contrary, small local shop are part of the social fabric and knew what the community often prefers. They have specific sources of their commodities which they knew for long period which helps in improving product quality. But small shops hire very few employees, and may not have as many choice of products like supper markets. But cost wise I am not sure if they are very expensive. Regarding continence small shops will even be better in advising customers, packing items, delivering to homes etc. One big advantage of small shops is since they are part of the community, they will allow you take commodities with out any credit card or interest when you are out of money which is not a case in supermarkets.

    It's funny the way they talk about the area for the new store when they were figuring out what to stock there. "Oh yeah there isn't any competition" being said in a way like screw all the other shops around who cares if they get shut down. That really doesn't play too well for them when they keep saying they don't want to cause a dispute with local business.
    All the locals talking about how they are worried for the newsagents and think Sainsburys are going to shut them down. The ones that say these things are normally the first ones to stop being so loyal and end up going to the competition and then act all suprised and everything when the newsagents shuts down for lack of business. Even that old lady was in there doing a decent shop of food. You want to keep your local shops then you make sure you use them otherwise you loose them. Nothing wrong with perhaps splitting your shopping up a little bit between the 2 as long as Sainsburys don't purposely go out of their way to make the local shops shut down

They will have likely done analysis before hand as well but they need to do analysis afterwards too to determine what the area is and therefore what kind of food they want to throw in. My main concern is they keep throwing all these little shops in towns where they have tiny ass roads and still send off some wacking great big HGV like yeah of you trot get your trailer down the side of that building, we don't care if you end up blocking the road that's not our problem thats a you problem driver person.

They are making customers work by 1) using their own materials/telephone and using up your minutes/memory/space on your own instrument; 2) downloading whatever you need to load your groceries into the application; 3) figuring out how to total/check out on your own; 4) bagging everything on your own. I worked retail and knew a woman of similar age who had worked for many decades at the store - all she got was prosecco (the stuff that is always on sale) and flowers (which they would have disposed of at the end of the day anyway). Local shops are shit, they have less quality food and only hire friends/family. Years ago 40 people me included got a job when a Tesco Express opened up and put the local shop out of business, they never would hire people who arent the same race and they under pay.

      This was taking away people's choice. People can't choose to pay with cash. Not every one has fancy phones. What if you lose your phone? You can't buy food. A lot of people hate unnecessary technology and apps. This forces you to stare even more at your phone. I remember when we I went to Sweden on holiday some years back and I had exchanged pounds for krona and I went into such a supermarket and I couldn't buy anything cos they did not accept cash. I was like I have hundreds of Kronor and i can't spend it! So I walked into their rival across the street and went shopping.

    Nature provides us with enough food for every living creature on the planet. Farmers and supermarkets have the responsibility of growing, harvesting and distributing it responsibly. Billions of pieces of single-use plastic from each supermarket. Abusive and polluting factory farming. Selling products tested on animals and burning the rainforest for palm oil or soya. Use of sweat-shop factories. Clearly the food industry is not doing its job properly. Governments should legislate on these issues before it is too late. Sainsburys are responsible as one of the UKs largest retailers, and should stop operating its business in such a dark, horrible and destructive manner.
