    The 348 tb gets a lot of flak during the Montezemolo era. However this is probably the last "mechanical" Ferrari that you can do all servicing in DIY fashion. I still love the late 80s styling however.

    • @nessuno5403

      Trades46 well said. Most people criticing the 348 just follow the bandwagon and have no clue or personal experience.

      Funny you should mention Montezemolo - he owned one, and hated it. His experiences with his 348 led to the development of the 355....

    • @oj7177
      @oj7177 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MichaelJames-lz7ni the 355 shared the same chassis as the 348 (and many other components), with just a couple of changes due to have more power.
      A 348 was used to develop the 2 protype cars of the enzo. It wasn't used a 360, a 355, a f50 or a 328, but a 348.
      I read almost 15 news papers and 13 of them talks good about it, and 2 not. One of them is car and driver. They tested a 348 and it had bridgestone re71 (stock tires, and they weren't good) and a weird setup that other owners had too, and the car was horrible.
      About the set up, I also read that a owner sent the car to a ferrari dealership saying that it had big handling problems (the same mentioned by c&d).
      The mechanic then set upped the car with the reccomended parameters from ferrari and switched tires (as ferrari was reccomending) to bridgestone expedia s01. Then the car was much much better.
      The other one is an australian news paper and he said that the 348ts chassis isn't as stiff as a 1997 nsx. One has targa roof, the nsx not, so it is normal that the coupe chassis is stiffer
      The other 13 have just good words to say about it. There are italian, english, americans, germans and australians news papers from 1990s and modern too

    • @MichaelJames-lz7ni

      The 'looks' are terrific - the maintenance bills were horrific. This car model had more Factory Service Bulletins than the Space Shuttle. 348 sales were so poor, the car almost bankrupted Ferrari. I knew owners who traded-in their 'new' 348s on 328s because the car was so bad...

      I was just thinking how much I hated this Ferrari. Great minds lol

    • @oj7177
      @oj7177 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@MichaelJames-lz7ni in that period there was a big crisis in luxury cars. Porsche was almost in bankrupt too because sales in america were declined by 50%. Mercedes saw a big decrease too (40% if i remeber correctly). In every market ferrari lost 20-30% in sales.
      The testarossa at the time was pretty old, the mondial wasn't a big commercial success, and the only new model was the 348.
      For the first 2 and a half years sales were really good. They sold over 3k cars in 1990/1991, i believe, and it was a record for them. The 348 was very well received when launched.
      From the end of 1989 to the end of 1992, ferrari sold 8/9k cars, and were sold 6k 348s in that period.
      In 1991/1992 the crisis hit and it was a hard time for ferrari, they stopped selling the mondial, the testarossa became 512tr and sales went down. Lamborghini was selling 300 cars each years at the time!
      Were sold more 348s than 328s, more 348s than testarossas, more 348s than mondials.
      The maintenance on the 348 was expensive (more than the 328), especially because of the timing belt sostitution. But 355s maintenance is as high as 348 is, if not even higher (because it has electronic suspensions and in some models have paddle shifter too).
      If a car is bad just because when it was sold the company was financially bad, it would mean that 1960s ferraris, 1990s lamborghinis, 1990s porsches, new alfa romeos, aston martins, ... are horrible cars

  • @Trendyflute
    @Trendyflute 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Man that thing has good braking, it's really very impressive for 1990 tires. The 348 seems like one of those cars that had all the parts it needed to succeed, but somehow came off as less than the sum of them. I wonder how effectively tuners could unlock the cohesive potential of this car, or how much there's something that just fundamentally fails it...

    An Eclipse GSX of this era had similar performance for 70k less. With more safety features and room, might I add.

    • @bliglum
      @bliglum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      This rari had 50% more power than the GSX and weighed less. The Eclipse was also just a jazzed up FWD economy platform, the rari, a bespoke mid engine platform.. Doubt their performance was that similar. Except, maybe the 0-60 times were close thanks to the GSX's AWD jumping it off the line quickly

    It's a good looking car -- in some ways, a little more than the 355 -- but the size is wrong. How are you supposed to impress with a MR2-size car? Too bad they didn't scale it up a bit. But maybe the 512 counts as a scaled up 348.

    I don't understand the hate the Ferrari 348 gets. I think it's one of the most handsome post 1960 Ferrari's ever made. To me the 308 GT4 and Mondial are deserving of the hate. Google a Ferrari GT4. It's ugly by Ferrari standards. The GT4 is still cool because well... it's a Ferrari.

    Slower than the same year Toyota MR2 Turbo at 3x the price. Less torque and more weight will do that. The interior isn’t as nice as the MR2 with leather seats either - that car was ahead of it’s time.

      The mr2 turbo was slower than the 348. Maybe it had a slightly faster 0-100, but when speed gets higher, the ferrari overtake the mr2
