Why is it possible to lay pipelines for gas and oil around the world, but not pipelines to transport water for extinguishing fires? The water would already be there to extinguish fires and would not have to be transported in insufficient quantities by airplanes. Why is there no money for this?
I heard the police investigation, prosecutor, DA, and judge are going to make it rain after decades of drought (save the occasional winter storms with mudslides) . Right after they jail that one man responsible for it all it should end the decades of drought.
What the hell are you talking about? We have had plenty of water the last couple 3-4 years. Our reservoirs have been full. Oroville and Shasta were at capacity. This is a forest management issue. I was up at Union valley reservoir this past weekend and the state is finally clearing the forests of fuel. This should have been going on for decades but it wasn’t happening.
Drought..California has always been in a drought following the great Columbia basin ice age. Underground water has been used so much by farmers and cities that the entire states Valley from Klamath falls to Mexico has sunk over 30 feet. There is no return.

It's not a good recipe unfortunately. And the natives didn't live in many of the places now inhabited. They used to burn the underbrush every year in the places they were going to live in. They burned for many reasons, hunting, they had a higher canopy, other tribes couldn't burn them out etc. And the original diverse forests were more sparse, they actually evolved with fire, as bizarre as that sounds. I read books back in the late 80's , 90's about the stewardship the natives practiced, and when the settlers came they outlawed the more nomadic tribes from burning. The European's came expecting to settle like they knew in Europe and the east Coast, but it doesn't work out west. And there were times in the late 1800's, early 1900's when there was big fires. There was always fire, that evolved with the trees. It's the settling down part that is actually at odds with the area. And can be done about that at this point ? Escape and live with it. That's what's evolving now. Even in the jargon, calfire, firebreaks, throwing people in jail cause they "caused" (except PGE, they don't go to jail, they just pay out ). It's the new culture there. I watched it change and evolve from the 70's - till now. I can kind of tell the way it's going just from observation.

I am a retired California firefighter 32 years of service. I appreciate every inmate hand crew, they are the hardest workers and they do a lot of good on fires. Many get wildland fire fighting jobs when they get out. Not only to they fight fires but they man the kitchens and feed everyone that is working on the fire.
And my understanding is that former inmate firefighters are not eligible to join California fire crews at all. So it's not like they get a career out of it.

Its all about containment and slowing in as vast an area as possible. They dont just spray up into the air tho theres many tactics depending on the situation
