CFA1: Hey who is driving that truck in reverse? CFA2: I don't know, I can't see them. CFA1: True. *gunship lands on truck* CFA1: The commander has stepped off the gunship into the truck and layed down!? CFA2: Long flight, he must be tired. *truck leaves/gunship explodes* CFA1: That explosion is starting to make me suspicious...
CP this is Delta 4. Just saw gunship pass through unknown truck, then saw truck pass through gunship, then saw same truck blow up gunship. Am returning to barracks to drink heavily. Over!
This mission is, basically, Backup, Back Down: African Edition. You could use the same tactic to No-Trace it -- block the vehicles with D-Horse, extract them, then call in the chopper to some LZ to take out the enemy gunship. I wanted to try a different strategy and to also extract the column commander alive. I had to wait A LOT for a good opportunity to do that, since it takes 10 minutes for the commander to reach the airport. But I'd say the result was worth it (11:57). The video also features a unique people extraction method that I haven't used before (12:30). Not that I needed to do that -- if you drive outside the hot zone with someone in the back of the truck they get automatically extracted.
+prenatual That was incredible. Some of the most creative Phantom Pain gameplay I've seen to date. How did you get the idea to do this? What was your thought process behind it?
Want to know the whole process? OK, here you go :) First, I needed to find a way to destroy the gunship. Calling in the chopper to the airport's LZ worked well enough, but it would usually kill 3 or 4 enemies before turning its attention to the gunship. I wanted to find a less violent method. I knew from mission 19 (th-cam.com/video/rkHIo6bOYh0/w-d-xo.html) that there is some weird interaction between gunships and land vehicles. I decided to try it here and it worked quite nicely. After some testing it turned out that a truck is the best vehicle for this task, since 1) it's high enough to reach the gunship, and 2) it's the only vehicle you can hide in. Second, a week we've had a discussion with A0Refrigerator about putting people in the back of the trucks: th-cam.com/video/fMGBmLi7w4w/w-d-xo.html&lc=z12dvfmpewreerrjr04ccphg1rrgztngrj4 He wanted to do it just for laughs, but it got me thinking about how I can get some real use out of it. Since I was going to extract the commander I thought: "Hey, why waste time following the guy? I'd have to wait for him to reach his destination, then distract him a couple times to lure him away from nearby enemies, then extract him, then crawl back to the truck and wait again for the good opportunity to destroy the gunship. Why not just keep him in the back of the truck?" After a bit of experimentation I found the spot where the gunship drops off the commander, placed the truck there and, sure enough, was able to get the commander jump into the back of the truck. The next step was a bit more difficult. I went through a couple of iterations before I landed on the method you see in the video. I tried: -Ramming the gunship with the commander still standing there. It works but the commander would usually turn around after the explosion and see me in the truck's cabin. -Driving away to a safe distance without disarming the commander first and extracting him before blowing up the gunship. Unfortunately, it makes the commander teleport back to the gunship as soon as you exit the vehicle. -Performing a hold-up from outside the truck. For some reason, it always makes the commander try to counter-attack me. -Putting D-Horse back in there (for the extra comedic value). Again, this increased the risk of the commander turning towards the cabin and seeing me. Performing a hold-up while lying in the back of the truck was the only thing that worked consistently. And third, destroying the gunship would always get me spotted or get a presence indicator, even when I waited for all patrolling enemies to get as far away from me as possible. The main problem was the guy standing near the airport entrance (10:40). He never leaves his post normally, but once, when I played the mission while it was raining I noticed that he would go inside the building and have a smoke every minute or two. So I had to start the mission exactly 2 hours before the rain would start to ensure that it would affect the guard. This is only the second instance on this playthrough when I used the weather to my advantage (besides mission 15, where I used mist parasites). So, that was the whole thought process behind this strategy. Makes it sound a lot more complicated than it appears, eh?
+prenatual that shit idea with the horse is just superb! gives you just enough time to fulton 2 tanks.... thanks for this but I must say I don't have your skills to do the last bit :(
10:00 I am in awe, and lost for words. That was some precise positioning and timing, I can't imagine how much practice and planning went into pulling this inhuman feat of skill off👌🏻💯
Intercepting tanks with horse shit, capturing enemy commander right after he disembarked from a chopper right ON your truck then hitting the thing to crash it... NOW THAT'S SOME LATERAL THINKING!
you sneaky sneaky dude , that made me laugh real hard, - Oh what`s that? Never mind just a regular truck under our gunship, carrying out captain - Move along , nothing to see here.
Dude, I'm so stupid, I thought the truck in the thumbnail was, like, a personalised armoured vehicle that the column commander used. Gawsh damnit, I got my hopes up for nothing. Excellent video as usual, by the way. :D
I found this mission boring on my first try but you made it the most awesome stuff ever pulled off in MGS V ! *A minute to stop to rethink about what I just wrote* Oh what the hell, I like to speak in superlatives anyway ! Dude just destroyed a gunship with a truck for god's sake !
Yeah, that definitely was one of the most difficult encounters to get No Traces on. Don't know if I would call it awesome, though, because of how stupid and badly scripted the AI was. For me, personally, getting all 11 vehicles on Backup back Down was the #1 "fuck yeah" moment of this playthrough. No stupid kids, no bullshit, just Man and his Horse vs. Machines.
omg on the first two vehicles D-horse go away so quickly that i never get to the front vehicle after i extract the rear one in time, thats some slick trick for the shitting function xD
No traces maybe. But this was very easy to S Rank first time. I waited for them all at that one guard post. I extracted them one by one as they came by and blew up the chopper with a rocket launcher.
+MISHJkETI I was trying to destroy the gunship by fultoning a vehicle from under it (it didn't work) and didn't bother to change it back to wormhole. I also think you need a normal fulton to extract people in the back of the truck (12:30).

Notices Gunship exploding
"CP, just heard an explosion. Location unclear."
yeah, this is the WTF moment XD
Pequod: "This is Pequod, there's an obstruction at the LZ, request for immediate removal."
CFA chopper: "Fuck you i land where i want."
Typical CFA Aviator Recruitment
The beta pequod vs
the chad CFA chopper.

next level truck maneuver. I'm absolutely awestruck
+Mayer Yedid awes-truck
Omg, LMFAO

That's pretty amazing. I love how all of the knowledge acquired over time comes together in a practical way in the end.

+prenatual
What is the visibility breaking point for snake driving beside an enemy in a truck?
Holy crap, those are some serious next-gen strats. This is the most amazed I've been for a while.
Some soldiers say that if you see a ghost horse, you'll disappear.
Then appear in some kind of oil extracting platforms in the middle of the ocean, working for an legendary soldier.
Especially when it's defecating.
"No traces"
*BARGES THROUGH A GATE AND A SIGN WITH A TRUCK*
Speaking of which that trick you pull off with the truck is perfect.
+Madnam the hilarious part is that the CFA is dumb enough to think that one of there own men did it.
Let's not forget the helicopter crash.
TheLivingGlitch but they got suspicious with the helicopter
Michiel Kudova Yeah, a clear trace of what happened, plenty suspicious.
I wonder what would would happen if you fulton the truck without taking him down first
11:52 strategy of the year. good lord.
10:00 I am in awe, and lost for words. That was some precise positioning and timing, I can't imagine how much practice and planning went into pulling this inhuman feat of skill off👌🏻💯
oh wow you used the truck to catch the commander. I guess trucks finally do have a purpose in this game!
+A0Refrigerator Thanks for the inspiration :)
Intercepting tanks with horse shit, capturing enemy commander right after he disembarked from a chopper right ON your truck then hitting the thing to crash it...
NOW THAT'S SOME LATERAL THINKING!
thank you prenatual now i will go for perfect stealth when taking down that chopper... with truck! your approach to this game is unbelievable!!
Are you kidding me. What the fuck man hahaha
you sneaky sneaky dude , that made me laugh real hard,
- Oh what`s that? Never mind just a regular truck under our gunship, carrying out captain
- Move along , nothing to see here.
that's some truck-CQC right there
This is why I subscribe.
6:08 that is a *hell* of a trace, man! The rest of the mission is a nut fest!
Dude, I'm so stupid, I thought the truck in the thumbnail was, like, a personalised armoured vehicle that the column commander used. Gawsh damnit, I got my hopes up for nothing. Excellent video as usual, by the way. :D
Late to the party, awesome work. Absolutely amazing
This must be the coolest extraction, and dumbest gunship takedown, I have ever seen. Love it!
That bit with the truck was absolutely brilliant! Also, thanks for the shortcut links.
Amazing extraction lol and the way you destroyed the chopper xD
that was funny
for anyone trying this the hot zone ends dirrectly at the end of the gate so get out and extract the commander like he did.
*Chopper explodes on open view*
"CP, just heard an explosion, location unclear."
Ok.
fuuuuuuuuuuuu.....that truck maneuver is legendary. Good job man!
I found this mission boring on my first try but you made it the most awesome stuff ever pulled off in MGS V !
*A minute to stop to rethink about what I just wrote*
Oh what the hell, I like to speak in superlatives anyway ! Dude just destroyed a gunship with a truck for god's sake !
+Adequat Name Here But the most awesome thing was the dog trick in blood runs deep, let's be real.
Yeah, that definitely was one of the most difficult encounters to get No Traces on. Don't know if I would call it awesome, though, because of how stupid and badly scripted the AI was.

10:00 Best "Mohammed must go to the mountain" moment ever XD
Wow that thumbnail really did speak for itself. Amazing.
もはや素晴らしいとしか言えない。
お見事!
CP:This is Zulu 6, there's a horse taking a poo on the road. How should we proceed?
Be careful down there boss, ohh wait.
omg on the first two vehicles D-horse go away so quickly that i never get to the front vehicle after i extract the rear one in time, thats some slick trick for the shitting function xD
i don't know what say, just.... amazing
Little did he know that was a water gun
"You're gonna extract him?" Ya. Go on. Just ignore the frickin tank he is in..
Lolololololololololol I like how you parked your truck at the right spot.
right onto the truck... that was amazing!
ахах, ну ты шикарен, конечно :) с грузовиком вообще эпик :D
This is awesome hahaha
Superb dude
That was AMAZING. WOW.
that was brilliant hahaha
did you just loud-stealth airport with a truck ????
That's an enemy gunship. One vehicle brushing up against it is enough to cut it in half.
dude, awesome the truck part was tha bomb
I’m literally laughing my ass off, this is the funniest way anyone could’ve thought of to complete this with perfect stealth.
Solid Truck!
That game won't die
Holy shit that was clean.
That was Slick.. ( Nice )
Que genialidad como jugás locooo!!
and nobody there asking "What a Diamond Dogs truck doing there ?" XD
expert Level
No way bro! I didn't think that extraction was gonna work!!
Woahh. Wait, how did you even know you can destroy the helicopter with just a touch with the truck? Like... HOW???
Was not expecting that
This guy is awesome
You are above even The Boss!
this is easily the single dopest thing i've ever seen happen on this game.
We really miss ya buddy, i hope you are doing fine IRL and i really hope to see ya soon on YT.
11:58
LOL WOOPS
That, was pretty sick.
That is some amazing gameplay.
One of the most difficult missions in the game to s rank
No traces maybe. But this was very easy to S Rank first time. I waited for them all at that one guard post. I extracted them one by one as they came by and blew up the chopper with a rocket launcher.
YOU ARE THE BOSS SIR!!!!
well played sir, well played.
There going to have a lot of stories to tell
There is no way in hell you can do Quiet exit no trace, so I'm curious to see if and what you do with that.
Franchement bravo extraordinaire tu es trop fort . Mais comment vas-tu l'idée de faire ça ?? Very very good job man (do you speak french ???)
Music at 6:45? Anyone
You're pretty good!!
That is brilliant!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Sweet black scarf
I dont know what should i say... but that was awesome
Now you're just humiliating the game xD
impeccable!!
What suit are you using here?
10:05 Made me laugh xD
Would the phantom cigar work to pass the time?
music at 8:35 anyone?
lolololol that landing trick
splitter camo hype son
Gotta give man... the CP definitely gonna shat brick if they know it is a cargo truck that destroyed a fully armed, already airborned gunship.
Man youre good
OMG... the truck strat!!!!!! how do u even think of that?
Why didn't you use wormhole fultone here?
+MISHJkETI I was trying to destroy the gunship by fultoning a vehicle from under it (it didn't work) and didn't bother to change it back to wormhole. I also think you need a normal fulton to extract people in the back of the truck (12:30).
+prenatual you can do it with the wormhole...but i think it is easier to do it by putting him in the passenger seat.
does this tactic work in the ps4 version
i know this is late since i have lately started playing the game but kudos to your videos and strategies flawless
you're pretty good,
unlike black ops 2, DD back the other side, MPLA is the actual winner of this war and they are even the official goverment nowadays
How can you thinkk????
This is absolutely amazing
how did u 45 Fulton baloons...I have 24 still a d I have the children and cargo upgrade..and it still gave me 24
I wonder how many times you had to try this strat to pull this off
I just got this game on PC through Steam, its really good, if you don't have this game you are sucking at life.
Amazing
If you don't mind, can you send me the components of your PC and how much you bought each part?
10:00 lmao
10:03 holy shit. haha wtf..
