some background: LO,ON and i came up with this idea when i went through old comments on the lyricover for derse dreamers i did back in the day, and someone said it would be better with dave rapping.
so we decided to do that. but instead of redoing derse dreamers with a rap, we decided to take a tip from mother mother on their hayloft i and ii songs. i flipped the riff around a bit and we worked through from there.
jeremy, if you're reading this, i hope you're proud of how grown up derse dreamers is!!!! i wanted to contact you about this but nothing worked. so, in your absence, we hope you appreciate it.

I love that every single one of their aspects was mentioned at some point in the lyrics: Breath, Time, Light, and Space. If not intentional, that’s an incredibly fitting coincidence
tbh that started with just trying to rhyme "death" hahaha. i wanted to fake out the beginning so 1 and 2 started on the same word with a similar effect, and then they'd both diverge from there. i think LO,ON was the one to handle the space line at the end too; i'm pretty sure i said something else after "we learned how the humble fall" and he suggested another line.
the "like you've never seen the light and now it's blinding you" was a complete accident though. breath i knew was a thing; time was an accident - just a word used because it needed to be in the sentence; space i believe was LO,ON's call, and the light one was just me trying to pull an intimidating line.
synchronicity. or just growing up to the point where those aspects can be regularly used in sentences lol.
but hey, excellent catch! some was intentional but since a lot wasn't, i'm glad we managed to get at least the beta kids' aspects in.
i love everything about this but something about that "i'm not stumbling, i'm just breaking through / like the wild ones do" was very powerful
honestly i really love how the lyrics turned out too. it's hard for me to be satisfied with that, but LO,ON's rap is just too dense for me not to love them. the ending was a lot of fun, honestly.

You know, being a rather new homestuck fan starting from late 2021, it's crazy to see the community still chugging along and creating bigger and better things. Keep it up, Imma send this to the homstuck fan I converted who is now super obsessed with all things homestuck lol
yeah, it's really something to see it constantly revive over and over again. seeing it trend on twitter back before twitter burned down was always a whiplash moment for me. i think it's incredible though; we have all this love for the world and keep making stuff to show it. from a fan t-shirt to music to writing, it's all labors of love.

(I also love how you took into account that one commenter mentioning how they wanted Dave to start rapping in the middle of it; they were right, and it works fantastically)
hey, it was a good idea! i don't want to single anyone out so i won't go back and dig through except maybe to reply, but it's nice to be able to make good on that idea so much further down the line. and it doesn't necessarily have to be Dave, per se -- the characters, as always, are up to interpretation.

yeah that last part was all LO,ON. he ended up doing a few more additions after we'd set up a lot of the lyrics, and that was another line he'd recorded for me to use. it was too good not to overlay. thank you so so much for listening and for sharing your thoughts!! we never really know how much ppl notice here and there, so it's nice to hear.

Ah yes, good. Us fans who've been loving it for over a decade now are still here. My content is shifting away from it now but I still cosplay Mother Lalonde at every convention I go to, still listen to all the marvelous fan-made music (and will absolutely be listening to this song again and again too!) and still have fondness in my heart for Homestuck. I don't think I'll ever NOT be a fan haha!

On Christmas a few days ago my family decided it would be a great topic of conversation to interrogate me about my Homestuck phase. They really wanted to understand why I made it my personality for the entirety of high school, but after I tried and failed to explain they likened it to a spell that had fallen over the kids my age.
After I was done trying to explain Class, Aspect and Lunar Sway to my sister, it was your lyrics (specifically Pyrocumulus and of course Derse Dreams) that wormed their way into my head over the day.
I don't know if TH-cam would have recommended me this video if I hadn't looked up you Derse Dreamers song on Christmas. I would have been sad to miss this, it's absolutely beautiful :D
it's not unlike any human being to explain away something confusing with magical thinking. or just assuming it's a fad. my favorite way to describe homestuck is the way rj wrote it in his song for beyond canon -- it's a story about four kids and a game they played together. cut. i do not explain anything else lmao.
also, i've found that a lot of people rediscovering homestuck have this odd sense of shame about it, but you probably sounded about the same as your sister or anyone else would when describing something longer than the freakin iliad or odyssey or whatever. it's just that everyone has their own things that speak to them -- stories that mean more because they were meant to guide *us*, not literally everyone who happens to pass by it. we don't all have to be people who went nutty over it, and even if someone did, i think childhood cosplay shenanigans can be forgiven if they were relatively harmless.
anyway. i don't know if there's a logic or a fate behind it, but i do really love it when those synchronicities happen. i'm happy to hear my lyrics have a little home in you, and i'm really glad you enjoyed the next iteration here :) thank you so much!!!!

thank you so much!!! i worked hard to cobble it together. no one featured in the music video is involved in any way -- these are videos from Pexels, which is a community-based copyright-free platform for photographers and so on to upload work they'd like to share. everything is uploaded under a specific license that allows you to use it as you see fit, as long as you don't pretend the people have endorsed your product or just re-sell an image or video. i've been using the website for most of my graphic needs lately.

thank you so so much!!! unfortunately, spotify is a bit of a tough spot. the company itself has issues getting royalties to those who are on it, and so many distributors don't work with them. whatpumpkin hasn't mentioned anything about it, and i'd need to talk to them to post anything homestuck-related on a monetized platform, so it would be unlikely.
i'm sorry for the trouble! but i'm glad you enjoyed, and if i can get my work on spotify one day i will try!

hi hi hello!! i guess you could say there are some hidden lyrics, but it's the same lyrics being sung, they're just slightly staggered.
at the end of me singing "we learned" you can hear LOON come in with "we learned how the humble fall / when all the space is held by walls of everything we've tried to-" and then it picks up again with his "of everything / we've tried to call" and so on.

nope. i chose people who looked similar to the designs of some fan designs i've seen of many of the characters over the last 10-ish years. it's meant to be vague so people can interpret it as they see fit! and also i didn't want to go with a regular static video.

there are ways!!!!!! but not legal ones yet. i'm also not a cop and i think you should be able to listen to what you want to. so unless you're willing to wait until i can talk to someone about distributing this track (i've reached out but i havent gotten a response and i need to try other ways) you may have to get a big ol boat and find a way to save the music you like ;)
