I started out loving mfw but after awhile the teacher guide just really started bugging me.
Sonlight is just so much easier to plan and stay on track for us.

Thank you so so much for these comparison videos. So helpful. Which one do you feel is more engaging in the reading and way they are presented?

I have used mfw every year for 8 years and finishing final lesson of 1850 to Modern Day today!!! I think there are many good curriculum out there. And though we never tried Sonlight, it was always my second option. :) There are a few things I will change when I start the cycle over again next year, but I did want to make one correction to your review...art appreciation is included in the cycle. There is a text book, famous art cards, and art worksheets to learn certain skills. All the to say...I plan to so simply Charlotte Mason art study packs next time around...but the MFW curriculum DOES include art. :)

Do the read aloud have work sheets for the MFW?

There is quite a bit of supplementing that goes on with SL Language Arts. You need to buy a handwriting, you can purchase Explode the Code and Wordly Wise. They are scheduled. When you get past grade 4-5 than spelling is not included anymore and you can buy it. Later on you can buy more grammar. You can do the SL language arts as is with no supplementation and it works very well as a Charlotte Mason type style, but there is lots of add on that are scheduled as optional.

We never purchased anything other than logos latin to supplement sonlight HBL. It's a foreign language and English grammar program in one :)

How is the sonlight k curriculum? Is it difficult? I just purchased it for my daughter who is 6 going into 1st grade. We also chose a math u see and writing without tears level 1. We used horizons for kinder and she hated it!!! It is a struggle to do schoolwork daily. It was extremely difficult and boring. Some of the topics were for much older children.

I'm switching my 6yo from horizons k to sonlight A for first grade. My kiddo was so frustrated by horizons too. How did you find the switch ?

This seems a little outdated... we are on our 3rd year with My Father's World, and the package came with Language Arts, Music, and Art.

Look at the cost of Sonlight's H/B/L only, not the whole grade level package. It's significantly cheaper and it's a much fairer comparison. If you look at another curriculum such as MFW, price out how much you have to add to MFW to make it a complete grade level package. My Father's World is more expensive for me than Sonlight by the time I make a complete grade level. I think they're both great values and not expensive considering how much it costs to send a child to private school, and what we spend on other things. Secondhand is always an option, too, I have bought multiple levels secondhand and saved a lot of money.
