    That’s what is great about those old mechanically controlled Diesel engines. They can sit for years and usually fire right up. I doubt that many of these newer electronic control engines could do that.

    • @leosedf
      @leosedf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They can, the new ones do not differ and they only have some electronic panel for measurements etc. But most of them to start them up you just press a switch and that's it. But all despite old or new have to be maintained and started up at least once per week to ensure reliability.

      This is why I love diesel engines, these engines could still run even if they're left unused for 2 decades

    • @Jan46

    I watched this a couple of years ago. What you need to do is bring two 1500w heaters, and you can wire them in series to the plug so the 380v will not be too much. Then run it under load for 30 minutes and then while hot change the oil again. Some day you may really need this genset, because your whole family may need to keep warm, if you have a fuel storage, it keeps a very long time. diesel.

  • @EphemeralProductions
    @EphemeralProductions 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    yep, the preheat is something that all diesel engines need and use; it's called a "glow plug". The fuel cannot combust without that added heat.

    I have an old turbo diesel one that is 750 hp at 1800 rpm and produces the 440Vlt to the main box to power the entire dairy farm. It was very cost efficient until the mid 1970’s when our local hydro plant began selling cheap electricity way out where we are. Now i rely on a newer 5kwh for backup power and just use the big unit to run the new production shop tools i put in the barn for a few hours per day.

      pmailkeey i buy diesel 500 gal US at a time but at $4 per gal US and $0.12 per kWh from the power company it leaves me only one choice....SOLAR ARRAY! Next summer we are putting up a solar array with battery backup that will support a full 12 day outage (we are rural) of careful Winter usage at a peak 12 kWh. 36 enormous glass pack batteries. 20x460W panels, a 5kwh diesel to back it up if levels fall below 60%. We’re just tired of being only one hour from a city and losing power dozens of times per year for days at a time. I’d rather be autonomous.
