I've been a Xenoblade fan since 1. That said, this is by far the fastest the plot of a Xenoblade game has grabbed me. About 17 hours in and I just can't put it down!!
The water combat is a big upgrade! I skipped the first few enemies in the opening area not knowing I could engage in combat (like the first few games)! Luckily one of the first side quests cleared that up. Haven’t even done the first mission really in this game and already put in a few hours just roaming, collecting items and attempting to clear the field of enemies 😂 So good!
I've never played a xenoblade game before Picked this up on a whim on Friday, planned to play for 2 or 3 hours before going to bed as I had work. Next thing I knew it was 1:54am...I'm completely and utterly hooked
Three things I’ve noticed in my first 12 hours in the game. 1) Production values are off the scale. If you’ve played and enjoyed the previous games get ready for a significant leap forward in overall quality. As mentioned in the video, the budget was there and it really, really shows. 2) in the beginning credits, Shuntaro Furukawa is mentioned as executive director. I find that very interesting, uncommon and certainly highly indicative of the esteem that this franchise is now enjoying within Nintendo. 3) if the gaming industry wasn’t as focused on FPS, pixel counts and GPU specs, then this would definitely already be game of the year.
Swapping characters mid combat is such an incredible mechanic. It makes the pacing of battles feel much faster, and you don’t have to always stick to one role/class. I can’t wait to see how it is used in the late game meta!
Are you just memorizing the order when cycling through the characters during battle? I love this game but I have no idea what's going on as soon as I switch characters in an attempt to complete a combo. I can keep focus on my main character and time the arts but other than that, I have no idea what's going on most of the time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated (playing exclusively in handheld mode).
@@mrspaceman2764 just identify which character you’re playing as before swapping to the next. Above the L and R buttons displayed on the screen when holding ZR, it’ll show the names of the available characters to swap to

@@Montra78 Not worried, just wondering if there is some indicator I'm missing. I have a grip on the combat mechanics and direct control isn't required if I make sure there are combo options across the entire squad... and it's a big squad so it's not an issue on hard mode. I don't actually think Monolith intended for it to be necessary during combat. I do wish the game had a tactical pause option now that XC allows full control of each party member. It would make some 15 minute battles take 2-3 times as long but would be a nice option to have.
Im absolutely loving this game only 3 hours in. Heres my own personal little review because I love it so much I want to write about it. The story bored me in the first hour or so I cant lie, but after a certain something happens, I was like "okay this is why i love these games". These games have some of the best stories in a video game ever created in my opinion. XC2 was kind of meh for me the first like 10-20 hours then gradually I became super invested in the story, then after a certain chapter in that game with one of the biggest plot twists in a game ive ever played I remember just being like "damn this is so good". XC3's story already has me invested after just 2 hours. The most important aspect of a story to me is the characters, and the characters in this game are all extremely likeable to my tastes. Not a bunch childish kids like Rex (though after over 100 hours I'd have to say I love my boi Rex and his godawful voice acting), but instead a group of young adults with a much more mature setting to the story and lore of each character. My biggest issue with xc2 was the slow start, and I wasnt a fan of the auto-attack combat at first. But like 20 hours or more into the game when the combat finally got good was when I started loving the auto-attack system. XC3 is probably becoming my favorite combat in a JRPG other than FF7. It just feels so good, and not to mention you can switch to any party member at any time if you want to switch things up and play defense or healer (and i havent gotten far enough yet but i know you can change each characters roles as well which is very exciting). I love the removal of the whole blade system XC2 used. It was just WAY too much for my liking. I much prefer using characters that use the weapon they have equipped and that sets their roles and what skills they can equip, rather than having to change to different blades in order to change roles and having different skills on each of those blades and needing to figure out which blades you should equip for each boss when you really just want to use Pyra/Mythra for the whole game, and then you have to figure out pouch items and you have to level up skills and blah blah blah it was just too much for me. In XC3 you have characters, with specific roles, and those characters equip weapons and skills. Need to get someone healed? Need better tanking? No more switching blades! Literally just zL + L or R and you got yourself a healer without losing the damage from the attacker you were just playing. I just absolutely love it. XC3 has perfected xenoblade combat for the time being, in my opinion. The graphics and performance are really good to me. Im not a person who judges a game based on is graphical output. Im a fan of games from 20 years ago, so to me Xenoblade games all look exceptionally well, and this one specifically is the best I've seen in the series. I've mostly played it handheld on a switch OLED, and its graphics look pretty damn great. When I have played it docked mode (on a 27" curved 144hz FHD monitor), the game still looks amazing to me, and honestly while in docked it does just look all around cleaner and smooth, Im preferring to play this in handheld for the beauty of an OLED display. I've noticed hardly any difference in performance docked or handheld, and I've yet to experience any lag or bugs, no performance issues at all so far. Music? Well I find that in Xenoblade games, they never really fail in the music department. They execute it very well and further enhance the emotional output from this game. With xenoblade 2, id tell someone "yeah maybe dont buy this game if you never played them before and arent a fan of anime-esque stories and games" XC3 id say "TRY THIS ONE FIRST and if you really liked it try XC1 THEN XC2" or "Oh you didnt like XC2? I know this one looks similar but its an entirely different vibe, give it a shot"
People complain about XC2's anime-esque story, but at least the characters, especially the villains, were compelling. It probably helped that XC1 and XC2 established a nemesis early on, XC3 doesn't, so it feels less personal. Also, childish kids? Eunie cusses at like everything she sees. lol Rex is also 15 and his beginning behaviour is needed for his growth.
I knew this game was going to be incredible when they sperated arts building by 1 vs 2 style. Started on XBC2 and loved it, and being able to get my arts back with quick hits and art cancels feels soooooo good! Already 18 hours in!
I'm loving the game overall. Everything is amazingly well done! I'm still in the early parts of the game exploring around randomly, but I can't help but smile at this amazing world! And I was totally mind blown when I found out I could battle enemies in the water without restrictions like in the previous game.
Played about three hours in so far. Really liking it. Its topping XBC2 so far. I don’t say that lightly, because I loved that title. This is really blowing me away so far.
Broooo I no life tf outta this yesterday!! It's great! I played and beaten almost every Xenoblade Chronicles game with the exception of X and THIS IS THE BEST!! Now am NOT a huge fan of the series even though I enjoy the games but am ABSOLUTELY hooked on 3. 12 hours in! What I like about it is that XC3 give you time to understanding every aspect in the game. It's helps. Gameplay is 🔥🔥🔥. Wish I could play it now but I'm at work but I brought my Switch just in case I get some downtime.
I've only been able to play 4 hours so far and damn! I'm absolutely loving it. I absolutely freaked out during the first few cutscenes where you see a certain familiar structure. Also, can we just appreciate how much better they made the transitions between getting into fights and ending the fights. It's such a small thing but the ability to draw your weapon while running and instantly put it away when the enemy dies makes getting in and out of battles a lot faster.
As soon as I get out of work today, I will be sure to pick this game up immediately. Truly a must-buy for me, especially since the previous games have greatly kept me entertained.
This may be a bit much but i bought 3 copies....two physical, one for me and one for a good friend of mine who never played a Xenoblade game and didn't have the money to buy this one...and one more digital for me, since i decided to keep my physical copy sealed....
I'm currently playing through Xenoblade Chronicles the Definitive Edition in handheld on my og switch. It's my first time playing any Xeno game and I am loving it! Decided to go the long way and play the games in chronological order so I can truly appreciate Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I'm just worried about playing 2 in handheld mode because I've heard it performs bad in handheld...
my 10yo and 5 yo and i just popped it in few hours ago -- they grabbed the controller and wont share they were immediately drawn in the first cut scene -- im grinning ear to ear I know what the first games meant to me -- I can honestly tell this is going to be my favorite one. i love it so far - pure love - this one is very different Im guessing Jose Otero is educating them very well on how to avoid dull boring momements because something very special is going on here. and btw your the only reviewer who I feel truly understands this series -- maybe game expalin but idk -- appreciate your coverage of this series
Monolithsoft hit an upper-deck grand slam with this one. So far, I've had a great time with the Arts combos, which have been streamlined to great effect.
This is my first Xenoblade game and I'm loving it I haven't been able to play much because of work but it drew me in pretty early definitely going to spend a couple hundred hours in this world
Definitely bought a copy. Mines come in the mail sometime either today or Monday. Still playing XC1: Definitive Edition. Somewhere between Ch 14 or 15. After I’m done gonna play Torna & Future Connected before I even start playing XC3.
For me one of the best things they added is the ability to switch characters on the go. In previous games I just didn’t want to navigate to the menu and change characters there.
Is it weird that my favorite improvement from past games is that you can still gather field collectibles even in combat? It always irritated me if I couldn’t grab something because I got spotted by a high level enemy.
i did begin when the game was available the 29th on the eshop and already reach the 27+ hrs into it... the game is insane. the story, the characters , the gameplay, the customization of the character in terms of how you can change the way they fight is insane. i had seen review saying it was a game of the years contenders and after elden ring i was doubtfull, but now... honestly it's quite possible. this game is a master piece!
I put 16 hours in day one and my god it was fun. The character interaction of the party and side quest have to be my favourite part so far. I have laughed out loud so many times so far
This game really epitomizes the phrase "best of both worlds." I loved XC1 for it's lore, story, characters, and combat. 2 was a disappointment in all but the combat system imo. I'm so glad we have an incredible hybridized version of 1 & 2's combat, with the serious tone of 1 and the same feeling of exploration as X. I couldn't be happier with this game truly.
Definitely gotta pick up since I’ve only played the XB 1 and want to get to 2 but never did but I guess I’ll start with this one than go back too 2. But mannnn your really selling me on this game OJ, I’m getting hype now
Bro this game is such a substantial improvement over the previous entries! The fact that you can dash in the middle of combat really helps you move around and position yourself a lot faster. Plus being able to switch characters mid combat makes it even more fun! I get the feeling it's gonna be hard to go back to the previous games after this one 😅
As a fan of the xenoblade series, this game is an absolute delight. The only small thing is I wish there was an option to turn down how weaker enemies automatically attack you when you try to pass them. All I have to do is look at them and they die. There might be a feature to do this later in the game, but I haven't seen the option yet.
I played XC 1 DE in the spring. I started and I am playing XC 2 now. I loved the first game (DE) and I want to get the entire story of XC 2 but, to be honest, I’m not really into it like I was with the first. I can’t get with Rex or most the characters. But I don’t have the time to binge it and finish and I would rather just start 3.
My copy will be here Monday cant wait to dive in..Finishing up all the multiple endings on Live a Live now another rpg you should not pass on its so damn good.
My copy doesn’t come until next Friday, but glad to see this game being as amazing as we thought it would be. Can’t wait to lose my social life when it comes out.
Amazing game. It's commendable that the release date was moved forward and it's here with no major bugs, Monolithsoft deserves respect for this. After 20 hours its quickly becoming one of my favorite JRPGs.
There are definitely some things I love and hate but mainly love. The constant tutorials in the first 4-5 hours really slow the pacing, and is it just me or does the frame rate drop when you’re talking to people? Some cringy dialogue here and there but other than that the game is fantastic so far. Really love the music and the combat so far. Also whatever reviewer said the game didn’t look better than XC2 must be blind. This game is leagues above XC2, graphically, cutscenes, ui, and image clarity.
Best game in the series by far! I would say it's right up in the running for one of the top games on the Switch, period! Absolutely essential buy if you own a Switch.
I’m over 10 hours in and man it’s great. My only annoyance is the tutorials lol like it’s great for understanding but it killed the pace lmao. But once you get through the start of the game and pass that it’s soooooo addicting. Story is great, characters are engaging with believable motivations and personalities. Gameplay is best it’s been for the series so far. Class system was worrisome at first but when it opens up oh man it’s going to be fun to grind them!
The Problem is, i have a exam next thursday.. and i played it now for 17 hours xD. i have the feeling im getting out of the tutorial section by now (in chapter 3) its simply amazing, the story is good and its not too anime. i play on hard mode because it gives extra spice to the battles. im since 2012 into the series and i think this is my favorite title of the series - so my favorite game in the whole "gaming universe"
First 6 hours: Yes!!! Feels like a better and fresher version of XB Definite Edition with a lil bit of XB2 and a lot of improvement. I love the characters and story so far and it looks and plays very well until now. Very nice … 😘👌
One of the things that stuck out to me was how organic leveling up is now. It just happens n u don’t have to go to an inn to do it. It keeps you in the action. I didn’t want to put it down my first 2 hours of it bye I had to go to work so no choice. The fact that we can fight in water now is amazing! 😂 seriously I was so happy to see that! I’m absolutely loving it so far. Playing it now!
Every time videos praising the game get uploaded, i curse my local retailer more and more for being late with my delivery (those bastards modified the launch date in the details on the product's page to be in july, but they still thought it was launching in september and now i lose the entire weekend until they deliver it on monday)
I've never played a XBC game before but I've played a lot of JRPG's before such as FF, KH, and Persona series. Def going to pick this up. I like what I've seen so far.
So the polish from what I've played isn't on par with other Nintendo games, there has been some audio balance issues, some audio drop outs for a shot in a cut scene and the like. It isn't terrible but certainly would be nice if some patches could improve this a little more. Likewise with the performance, and I get this could be hardware limitations kicking in, but with some sustained drops to the mid 20's during some battles, it would be nice if they could patch this up a bit to remove or minimise this a bit more. What it does extremely well though is quickly get you into the combat system and add extra pieces to it at an engaging but not overwhelming pace. Whilst also making it clear what each addition brings and even giving some missions that reinforce what you have just learnt etc. I have not played the second game much (I dropped it fairly early in and need to get back to it) but compared to the original wii release the UX is just massively improved and if they play there cards right selling it could really help bring in new fans. As I think we have all tried getting into a game and found the core ideas to be great, but it be hard to understand aspects of the systems (especially for longer running series).
Im fine with XC3 being the game to close out the trilogy of X1 X2 and X3. But I want ONE more thing before im comfortable with them moving on from the switch to next gen or whatever. XCX needs to release for switch with a post game story to close out the story of XCX. Just like XCDE did with future connected.
Playing it since Thursday love so far. So yes everyone should play this game and be amazed what kind of power in this vintage hardware is still left 💪👍

You can easily turn it off via options but so far it's much better to have on given it builds on top in a more approachable way. Hopefully you consider getting XC3.

my 10yo and 5 yo and i just popped it in few hours ago -- they grabbed the controller and wont share they were immediately drawn in the first cut scene -- im grinning ear to ear I know what the first games meant to me -- I can honestly tell this is going to be my favorite one. i love it so far - pure love - this one is very different Im guessing Jose Otero is educating them very well on how to avoid dull boring momements because something very special is going on here. and btw your the only reviewer who I feel truly understands this series -- maybe game expalin but idk -- appreciate your coverage of this series
Monolithsoft hit an upper-deck grand slam with this one. So far, I've had a great time with the Arts combos, which have been streamlined to great effect.
This is my first Xenoblade game and I'm loving it I haven't been able to play much because of work but it drew me in pretty early definitely going to spend a couple hundred hours in this world
I'm about 8 hours in and it is incredible so far. Definitely takes everything from the 1st two games and optimizes them.

I’ve been playing this game since yesterday and so far I’m enjoying the hell out of this game. A big improvement over 1 & 2!!
For me one of the best things they added is the ability to switch characters on the go. In previous games I just didn’t want to navigate to the menu and change characters there.
Monolith should be called Chadolith because they are CHAD'S! What they did is beyond my expectations and I hope we see more Xeno games in the future.
Is it weird that my favorite improvement from past games is that you can still gather field collectibles even in combat? It always irritated me if I couldn’t grab something because I got spotted by a high level enemy.
i did begin when the game was available the 29th on the eshop and already reach the 27+ hrs into it... the game is insane. the story, the characters , the gameplay, the customization of the character in terms of how you can change the way they fight is insane.
i had seen review saying it was a game of the years contenders and after elden ring i was doubtfull, but now... honestly it's quite possible. this game is a master piece!

Do it! Best JRPG series I think. Also check out Xenosaga using PCSX2 emulator. If you played Xenosaga and dug the story, you'll love all the XB games.

I put 16 hours in day one and my god it was fun. The character interaction of the party and side quest have to be my favourite part so far. I have laughed out loud so many times so far
I will get it after I finished XC:DE and XC 2 + Torna. They have been sitting in my backlog for a long time.
8 hours in, still getting new mechanics. Feels like 2-3 hours in and it’s easily the best xenoblade so far.

So good. Way more fluid gameplay and battle system. Way more intuitive controls. And the menus are much easier to navigate. Such a gorgeous game.
This game really epitomizes the phrase "best of both worlds." I loved XC1 for it's lore, story, characters, and combat. 2 was a disappointment in all but the combat system imo. I'm so glad we have an incredible hybridized version of 1 & 2's combat, with the serious tone of 1 and the same feeling of exploration as X. I couldn't be happier with this game truly.

Bro this game is such a substantial improvement over the previous entries! The fact that you can dash in the middle of combat really helps you move around and position yourself a lot faster. Plus being able to switch characters mid combat makes it even more fun! I get the feeling it's gonna be hard to go back to the previous games after this one 😅

As a fan of the xenoblade series, this game is an absolute delight. The only small thing is I wish there was an option to turn down how weaker enemies automatically attack you when you try to pass them. All I have to do is look at them and they die. There might be a feature to do this later in the game, but I haven't seen the option yet.
Definitely is annoying when your exploring a area your over leveled at
I played XC 1 DE in the spring. I started and I am playing XC 2 now. I loved the first game (DE) and I want to get the entire story of XC 2 but, to be honest, I’m not really into it like I was with the first. I can’t get with Rex or most the characters.
But I don’t have the time to binge it and finish and I would rather just start 3.
My copy will be here Monday cant wait to dive in..Finishing up all the multiple endings on Live a Live now another rpg you should not pass on its so damn good.

Amazing game. It's commendable that the release date was moved forward and it's here with no major bugs, Monolithsoft deserves respect for this. After 20 hours its quickly becoming one of my favorite JRPGs.

There are definitely some things I love and hate but mainly love. The constant tutorials in the first 4-5 hours really slow the pacing, and is it just me or does the frame rate drop when you’re talking to people?
Some cringy dialogue here and there but other than that the game is fantastic so far. Really love the music and the combat so far.
Also whatever reviewer said the game didn’t look better than XC2 must be blind. This game is leagues above XC2, graphically, cutscenes, ui, and image clarity.

I’m over 10 hours in and man it’s great. My only annoyance is the tutorials lol like it’s great for understanding but it killed the pace lmao. But once you get through the start of the game and pass that it’s soooooo addicting. Story is great, characters are engaging with believable motivations and personalities. Gameplay is best it’s been for the series so far. Class system was worrisome at first but when it opens up oh man it’s going to be fun to grind them!
The Problem is, i have a exam next thursday.. and i played it now for 17 hours xD. i have the feeling im getting out of the tutorial section by now (in chapter 3) its simply amazing, the story is good and its not too anime. i play on hard mode because it gives extra spice to the battles. im since 2012 into the series and i think this is my favorite title of the series - so my favorite game in the whole "gaming universe"

First 6 hours: Yes!!! Feels like a better and fresher version of XB Definite Edition with a lil bit of XB2 and a lot of improvement. I love the characters and story so far and it looks and plays very well until now. Very nice … 😘👌
One of the things that stuck out to me was how organic leveling up is now. It just happens n u don’t have to go to an inn to do it. It keeps you in the action. I didn’t want to put it down my first 2 hours of it bye I had to go to work so no choice. The fact that we can fight in water now is amazing! 😂 seriously I was so happy to see that! I’m absolutely loving it so far. Playing it now!

I am 27 hours in. Wow some of the most fun with boss fights I've had. One of my favorite games of all time already. I feel alot stronger in this game.

Every time videos praising the game get uploaded, i curse my local retailer more and more for being late with my delivery (those bastards modified the launch date in the details on the product's page to be in july, but they still thought it was launching in september and now i lose the entire weekend until they deliver it on monday)

I've never played a XBC game before but I've played a lot of JRPG's before such as FF, KH, and Persona series. Def going to pick this up. I like what I've seen so far.

I play on a 1080 tv and xeno 3 looks amazing
So the polish from what I've played isn't on par with other Nintendo games, there has been some audio balance issues, some audio drop outs for a shot in a cut scene and the like. It isn't terrible but certainly would be nice if some patches could improve this a little more. Likewise with the performance, and I get this could be hardware limitations kicking in, but with some sustained drops to the mid 20's during some battles, it would be nice if they could patch this up a bit to remove or minimise this a bit more.
What it does extremely well though is quickly get you into the combat system and add extra pieces to it at an engaging but not overwhelming pace. Whilst also making it clear what each addition brings and even giving some missions that reinforce what you have just learnt etc. I have not played the second game much (I dropped it fairly early in and need to get back to it) but compared to the original wii release the UX is just massively improved and if they play there cards right selling it could really help bring in new fans. As I think we have all tried getting into a game and found the core ideas to be great, but it be hard to understand aspects of the systems (especially for longer running series).

Im fine with XC3 being the game to close out the trilogy of X1 X2 and X3. But I want ONE more thing before im comfortable with them moving on from the switch to next gen or whatever. XCX needs to release for switch with a post game story to close out the story of XCX. Just like XCDE did with future connected.

This game by far has the best way of introducing new systems without long tutorials. Way better than XB2.

You can easily turn it off via options but so far it's much better to have on given it builds on top in a more approachable way. Hopefully you consider getting XC3.
