  • National Medical Register (NMR): NMC Launches Portal for Unique ID Registration of Doctors in India
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has launched a portal for the registration of all MBBS doctors in India.
All registered doctors will be assigned a unique ID as part of the National Medical Register (NMR).
The NMR is a dynamic database and central repository of all registered medical practitioners (RMPs).
Doctors must register again on the NMR, even if previously registered on the Indian Medical Register (IMR).
Aadhaar ID will be used to verify the authenticity of doctors.
Medical colleges, institutions, and State Medical Councils (SMCs) are linked to the NMR portal.
Public access will be limited to some data, while the Ethics & Medical Registration Board (EMRB), SMCs, NBE, and medical institutions will have full access.
Doctors need Aadhaar IDs, MBBS degree certificates, and their original State Medical Council registration certificates to start the registration process.
The portal allows manual entry of additional qualifications and credentials.
The registration process involves verification by SMCs and medical institutions, followed by NMC approval.
After successful verification, doctors will receive a unique NMR ID.
The portal includes features such as application tracking, adding qualifications, and issuing NMR ID cards and digital certificates.
Currently, only MBBS degree registrations are accepted, with additional qualification updates coming soon.
The NMR aims to provide comprehensive data on the total number of doctors, including those who have left the country or lost their licenses.
The NMR is mandated under Section 31 of the NMC Act, 2019.

To correct a spelling mistake in your surname on the Indian Medical Registry (NMR), follow these steps:
      Steps to Correct Spelling Mistake
      1. Contact the Relevant Authority:
      - Reach out to the state medical council or the National Medical Commission (NMC) directly. They are responsible for maintaining the NMR and can guide you on the correction process.
      2. Gather Required Documents:
      - Prepare documents that prove your identity and the correct spelling of your surname. This may include:
      - Aadhar card
      - Birth certificate
      - Educational certificates
      - Any other official ID that reflects the correct spelling.
      3. Submit a Formal Application:
      - File an application requesting the correction. This may involve filling out specific forms provided by the medical council or NMC. Ensure you include all necessary documents as proof of the correct spelling.
      4. Affidavit (if necessary):
      - In some cases, you may need to submit an affidavit stating the correct spelling and explaining the error. This is often required to formalize the correction process.
      5. Follow Up:
      - After submission, follow up with the relevant authority to check on the status of your application. This can help ensure that your request is processed in a timely manner.
      6. Keep Records:
      - Maintain copies of all documents submitted and any correspondence with the authorities for future reference.
By following these steps, you should be able to rectify the spelling mistake in your surname on the Indian Medical Registry, allowing you to complete your registration as a medical practitioner.

Thank you for your question. It's difficult to provide a clear answer on this matter, as the specific requirements for uploading a provisional degree certificate in place of a permanent one can vary. I recommend contacting the National Medical Registrar or the relevant authority directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information. They'll be able to guide you on the acceptable documentation.
