I have seen many videos on how to play a certain piano piece but none of them are on the level that you are. This Prelude has become to me so much clearer and so much more fun to play. Thank you so much for that!!
It has all the subtle tricks to make it accurate, concrete, clear and easy to understand. It is truly the best tutorial that only the best pianists can provide.
What an amazing piano lesson. The method of slowly letting go of the peddling is totally brand new for me. Your explanation of the second section was very, very helpful. The highlighting of the middle voice was brilliant to me. It was so clearly articulated. THANK YOU!!!
This channel is a hidden gem! 💎 Your tutorials are just phenomenal and so helpful. Not to mention also entertaining. Even though pieces like this are too advanced for me, the techniques and information you share help me a lot with other pieces. Thank youuu!
I’m going to try this piece for solo ensamble for school this year and this video will help a lot!! It’s very helpful how you break down each felling and execution of the sections👌🏻
Rachmaninoff said one must have patience, patience, patience and then more patience, if one is to master the piano. I play this prelude (though I am still working on it). Good tutorial. My teacher's line goes to Lechitizky to Beethoven, Rachmaninov met Lechitizky in 1902 in Vienna. He dedicated his Chopin variations to him.
Beautiful touch and such expert tuition. I'm sorry that I've commented before but everytime I see this I feel compelled to comment again. This piece is my goal - hence I come back here at each stage of my learning. I've watched/googled everthing I can on this piece - but only your interpretation moves me, it's the magic touch. No one can teach that Hopefully that still comes naturally with me - I'm finding with age that the finger memory takes longer and it's hard work no matter what other comments may say. This is a lifes work to play well.
This is absolutely fantastic, please do more! I love that you go into so much detail on the pedalling which many others may not - very helpful and certainly key to producing the right colours
Very in-depth ad helpful tutorial. Thanks a lot, as well for the sheet music and fingering. I have been wrestling with this piece for months, and although I have it "well in my hands" your instructions and tips are invaluable - especially the 3-layered middle section which you explain with a clarity which I myself have only vaguely guessed.
I'm currently using the free sheet music you provided along with this lesson and feel like I'm actually making progress with this piece - thank you so much
Wonderful teaching and helped me a lot with this difficult piece. Excellent ideas for the characters and voices in this prelude . Please do more pieces - I would love the Rachmaninov prelude op 23 no 4 , or the Etude Tableaux op 33 D minor
I have only watched the video for a minute now, but as soon as I tried pressing the keys deeply; it got the sound to another level. I am impressed how simple yet beneficial this tip is. Thank you, I am looking forward to learn from you more. Have a great week. :)
I agree with the comments here . Your tutorials are amazing and so incredibly helpful. I have almost got the timing of the Marcello/Bach Adagio (from your tutorial ) under control and I can’t wait until I can play it through and add some more emotion to it . Any chance you could do a tutorial on Rachmaninov Musical Moment Op16 No 5 .? I adore that piece. Thanks for all your hard work and help

This is beautifully planned, edited, taught and executed. I'm glad I've stumbled upon your channel. This piece is on my list for 2023, and one of my strategies is to actually start learning the piece from the middle part as this will be the most technically challenging for me, especially the left hand and the middle voicing. Which brings me to my question: Will we see a video on how to play the Chopin Revolutionary Etude? :)
@@Antune I have almost "mastered" his Prelude in C# minor. (Except for a few bars here and there). I am an Amateur with a capital A. My Yamaha P105 is enduring the punishment quite well!
I really love it! Helps me a lot .I have practice for few months and one struggle thing is I have small hands . But I don’t want to give up on this piece.I have try to download the finger ring from you but it’s not successful Bcz it’s been removed 😭😭😭😭
First of all, thank you so much for taking the time and giving all the attention to details in such an honoring way to Rachmaninov. ❤ Secondly - damn it I came across your channel 4 months too late 😭😭😭 muscle memory and pedal memory are now too ingrained in my brain, what do I do 😭
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. Do not worry about muscle memory. I am sure you can still make adjustments with a consistent approach. All the best!
I talk quite a bit about this topic in the video. You must work on the wrist movements and keep them very relaxed to play "piano." Also, I recommend practicing slowly because playing fast before knowing the piece well causes tension and makes it very difficult to play softer. Good luck!
Saving this one to my list for help someday… would you say this is a piece to tackle after maybe 3yrs, 5yr, 8yrs? Realize everyone is different in their learning. Thanks !!
@@Antune hey thanks for the reply! I have some videos on my channel for reference if that would help you form an opinion!! Ultimately I should just find a teacher to give me this input… thanks !

You play very well and the guidance of the piece is very understandable. But I noticed a very small - not particularly noticeable - mistake. A wrong note. In the fourth score, in the first bar you press the do key instead of the note la. just a remark. I hope you see my message and understand it!
Thanks for the comment! Yes, I am aware of that small memory error. I was curious when someone would realize it! :) Here is another playing of me the same piece, with the correction; th-cam.com/video/VynJV6aaHWQ/w-d-xo.html
Antune well done and thank you. I notice you have big "Rachmaninoff hands" -- you finger RH 1-2-3 at end of bar 17 (3rd section); that inner g of the RH chord there slows down that 4-note octave RH run for me, so I just leave it out. Oh well.
