  • State prosecutor Elizabeth Jones Brown delivered the closing argument against Brice Rhodes in the triple murder trial on Monday afternoon. Jones Brown reviewed evidence shown throughout the trial, and emphasized the importance of it all. “Obviously the defense does not want you to trust them,” Jones Brown said when recounting the defense’s opening statement. Rhodes is accused of killing three people in May of 2016, two of which were minors. If convicted, he could face life behind bars.

    I think she did a fine job. It’s not Broadway, she doesn’t need to be high energy. She laid out the facts in a morbid, harrowing, disgusting case.

    It was no thanks to either the defence nor the state's closing arguments that the jury came back with the result they did. Justice will never be served regardless, but at least the public will be safe from him as he'll be among his own kind in prison, although I did notice his shaking hand, rapid eye blinking and repeated swallowing as the jury's decision was about to be delivered, so he was clearly affected.
    As a society, we learn very little. People like Brice would not be the people they are if it were not for a lack of parental responsibility and accountability, we only have to look at the dead boys' mother to see an example of that, as well as Brice himself. We have societies that laud 'gangsta' culture. When my own lad was growing up, I knew each and every friend he had, he was not allowed to run the streets, he had youth clubs or did activities and I could account for every moment he was out of the house and I worked - I worked during school hours, I was also a single parent so life was hard as there was very little money, but I made it work. People make too many excuses for their neglect of their children, we have choices in life, if the kids run the streets it's b/c the parents can't be bothered and are more focused on their own selfishness instead of parenting their children. Most criminals are no longer afraid of going to prison as such, that's b/c what they are being removed from is often far worse. This will only change when we acknowledge on a legal standing that children aren't a parent's possession, they are human beings and need to be nurtured.

    • @kevinhornbuckle
      @kevinhornbuckle 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well said. And the means to actively nurture them must exist, be possessed by each and every parent. The means are money, education, and time.

    • @Herbie-Went-Bananas-Then-Split
      @Herbie-Went-Bananas-Then-Split 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@kevinhornbuckle Yes, very much so. It's alarming how many children are home 'schooled' and yet, have no set construct of education. I've seen what I would consider feral children running riot that are supposedly being home schooled, even at the age of 7/8 they are borderline illiterate. Children's minds are little sponges, they are so quick to learn/adapt, it's crucial they are given a loving foundation, stability and educated.
