- China's challenger to Airbus and Boeing's passenger jets, the narrow-body C919, made its international debut at the Singapore Airshow on Sunday (Feb 19). READ MORE: str.sg/wToBo
It comes as the Chinese plane-maker - COMAC - signals an interest in gaining more of a foothold in the aviation market this year, while the two Western plane makers struggle to meet production demands.

"Made in China" has been questioned and ridiculed by some Westerners for decades. From the beginning, it could only produce cheap clothes and shoes, and now it has become a product of artificial intelligence, quantum communications, aerospace, electric vehicles, driverless cars, etc. Supercomputers, high-speed rail, 5G, etc., can all be manufactured in China. It took the Chinese people several decades to complete the two hundred years of development of Western developed countries, but they are still ridiculed by some people. Those who laugh are still laughing, but China has already gone very far.

When most people in the comments say that he uses foreign parts. I wonder if it were that easy to buy foreign parts to build a plane. So why are there only two large passenger aircraft manufacturers in the world?
If the plane is made in China, must it be China parts? Did Boeing and Airbus not use parts from other countries? Don't joke, brother, Airbus A220 fuselage is manufactured in China
also COMAC wants C919 to get u.s and EU certifications... they can't argue when the plane mostly use their parts
Why ? question is which foreign parts, seats are parts of a pane same as engine.
Everyone can make seats , but planes need a engine to fly.
@danielkurtovic9099 You can search for the Y-20 and J-20. Of course, China can completely use its own engines. If China cannot manufacture it itself, Europe and America will not sell the engines to you, and you cannot make airplanes because they know that if they do not sell it to you, you will use your own engines. At present, using engines from Europe and America can bind interests, make them recognize you, and provide you with an airworthiness certificate. Secondly, it can avoid crazy suppression
Good for China! The C919 sure looks like a winner.

Cry a river, 737 max is opening another line of production. COMAC wont be surpassing airbus or Boeign for at least 50 years.
Unlike Boeing's 737 max, the C919 will only ever be bought by domestic Chinese carriers, until it eventually collapses into administration, like everything else in China.
Imho, sia must buy Boeing. Otherwise, there'll be reports on human rights violation.
@@alantan9863 Such narrow minded. Have you forgotten there's Airbus A320neo? Singapore Airlines has Airbus in the fleet, so order up some A320neo as alternative to the 737 MAX 8 (16 in fleet) is viable.
The media wasn’t telling the full story about 737 max.
Every Remote control aircraft enthusiasts knew the problem.
--> Moving the engine position forward shifted the plane’s center of gravity, which altered the aerodynamics of the aircraft. The position of the new engines pulled the 737 tail down, pushed its nose up, and put it at risk of stalling. (Slow air speed and high nose position are the most common causes of stalls. When an aircraft stalls, it begins to fall because the wings stop creating lift.)
To compete with the Airbus A320-NEO, the Max had larger engines than previous 737 models. They were designed for greater range and fuel efficiency but came with a tradeoff. Since the 737 sits so low to the ground, Boeing had to change the position of the engines on the wing to give the plane ground clearance and account for the extended length of the fuselage.
But by solving an old problem, Boeing created a new one. The new engines were too big to fit in their traditional spot under the wings. To combat the problem, Boeing mounted them forward on the wings. Moving the engine position forward shifted the plane’s center of gravity, which altered the aerodynamics of the aircraft. The position of the new engines pulled the 737 tail down, pushed its nose up, and put it at risk of stalling. (Slow air speed and high nose position are the most common causes of stalls. When an aircraft stalls, it begins to fall because the wings stop creating lift.)
Boeing installed extra software to make the updated 737 fly like traditional ones. It was designed to prevent stalls, compensate for the position of the engine on the wing, and force the aircraft’s nose down automatically when the sensors determined the airplane was flying at a dangerous angle.
The stall-prevention system (known as MCAS) was poorly designed and implemented. Since it was intended to work in the background, Boeing didn’t brief pilots about the software or train them in simulators. The software didn’t activate when the flaps were down or the autopilot was on.³ And when the MCAS system went haywire, pilots could deactivate it with a switch on the center pedestal of the 737 cockpit. As pilots yoked the airplane upwards, the software automatically pushed the aircraft nose back down. This led to the crash of the two Boeing airplanes.

I have been reading for years on the development of COMAC. If Boeing 737 Max can be ‘certified’ by EU, I don’t see why it could take long for C919 to be certified! Unless it’s all about protectionism
You'll find out that the self entitled champions of "freedom and equality" don't like anyone else challenging their dominance, especially with better products than they can offer, hence the COMAC will never receive certification from either the FAA or EASA.
its all about servicing. no service centres in the EU or US. service centres in china for sure. no not much point at this moment. also the economy is equivalent to the a320 ceo. so no rush either. it will need 10 years of operations before other international carriers are interested. of course argentina / iran / etc could be interested. then again they may also be interested in the russian mc 21.
