  • Join the Graduate Student Committee for a panel-style information session regarding the process of obtaining a school counseling position. Panelists include recent graduates that have secured positions as school counselors, as well as professionals who have experience in sitting on hiring committees. Attendees will obtain meaningful information about the job and interview process, as well as an opportunity to bring their questions to the panel.

Why cover letters ? They’re so outdated . What do you want to see in a cover letter that you didn’t see in the resume?

It was discouraging to hear two panelists talk about looking for candidates with extra curricular involvement in the field. That creates a bias towards single, childless and even more affluent candidates who have time and the financial ability to do activities which are above and beyond the required education and qualifications. People who are changing careers, parents, older applicants and applicants with less financial means are often very motivated and qualified but don't have time to do anything except put all of their energy into their graduate school and internship experience.

I agree. I prefer to work with someone who has experience in life- how can you council when you lack life experience that your clients can relate too?😊
