Was just watching "idintifiying and controlling key squares" and thought to myself 'i would really love to see that guy' cause he"s been mentioned alot ;) and finally there he his..
Cant say im familiar with many, but youre definitely my favorite grandmaster. The light comedy you employ keeps everything engaging, and you keep it up even in a slow crowd, really good stuff! Keep it up my guy!
That was so strange! I was dozing off at the 20 min mark when he started saying "one guy is at home asleep, yeah you, wake up" and I literally jumped out of my sleep and was so confused. It felt like he was actually talking to me.
Sometimes I get the feeling that Ben Finegold was once a gorilla that some scientists experimented with and suddenly it became intelligent and wanted to harass it´s fellowbeings by playing chess.
Finegold's lectures usually keep me super happy all the way through. The only line that didn't was "Emory Tate was..." I didn't know. RIP, a great tactician and another great entertainer. If you haven't, google his games. He has some great ones.
Man I wonder if you have changed your mind at all. Not saying you should change your mind but interesting how emory's reputation may have changed now with his sons
@@carbiv That's a tricky one, isn't it? Perhaps Andrew Tate saw his father and had contempt for his father being so smart and not very wealthy. We can only blame parents so much for how their kids turn out.
At 35:15, instead of ...Bxd5, black might play Qxa2. This prevents Rd2 (...Qa1#), weakens Re1 (...Qa1+, Kd2 ...Qxb2 or ...Bxd7, black loses rook on a8 after the knight fork/discover check, but that rook isn't doing anything anyway, black can recapture with the bishop, and the queen is on a more active square, linked to the bishop and still alive), probably provokes the knight fork before the rook move, so Ne7+, but black's queen on d5 or b2 can come to the defense of the black king which is on f8 after the knight fork. Black can even gain a tempo after the knight fork by d5, provoking a queen trade which GM Finegold said white wouldn't do due to tournament rules. At the very least, this stalls the attack, saves the queen, or simplifies the position to provoke a draw. Qxa2 at 38:00 as well strikes me as the best move. Thoughts?
I felt like I was listening to a non stop comedian, I spent the whole time laughing I found it difficult to concentrate , I still learned but I was always waiting for his wisdom and found his humor more captivating
@darknightoftroy nicely put! I live Ben but I hate the "retreat like a Frenchman!" jokes. Without the French, Ben would be speaking in some silly British accent. Hmmm...maybe given the current state of US affairs, remaining a colony might not have been so bad
Just came across these chess lectures and love them. Does anyone know if GM's ever sit around talking about World Champions? I'm sure they do, but on video here on You Tube?
35:35 why is Rg8 generally bad for black in the Sicilian? I didn't find out why :( Are knight forks on f6 really that common? or was it the threat of Qh4 attacking the pawns?
I tested Robert James Fischer vs Pal Benko, US Championship (1963/64) with stockfish 9 at the last move. Qe8-e7 wins for black. There is no mate for Bobby! :(
"But in this variation, we're going to checkmate our opponent, because I was informed that's how you win the game."
Usualy when you checkmate your opponent you are in a pretty good position XD
39:30 " At this point black didn't actually resign, the arbiter said 'Ok, that's enough' '"
This line had me crying
Great
i came back from the fridge at the *exact* moment he said "okay, you're back from the fridge."
Yup. He got me too. Had to think for a second: "Wait am i watching a stream?"
Scary...
@@AZ-er3kc Cx
Yes! How does he do that??
he woke me up just before that line when i was almost going to sleep :D ahashahahaj
I was gonna ask if Ben ever actually caught anyone going to to the fridge, but that answers my question ^^
"Black can resign because he's almost ready for the next game" lol
I was about to fall asleep to Finegold but he decides to wake me up.
Me too lol
Lol... dim certain went to the fridge too
I went to the fridge when he said that : , (
lmao for real i was about to sleep too 😂😂😂

wait, slow down, whats "checkmate?

@@oOgabryOo Nothing beats drunk watching Ben Finegold lectures LOL

Not much other than that
GM Ken West FINALLY makes an appearance. I would love to see him host his own series for this channel.

He’s not qualified
@@colinmurphy2214 yeah, he only has a fide of 2800...
man...this guy has seriously got a great sense of humour
Is Ben a grandmaster in chess or humor? Or maybe both?
+Parampal Singh Clearly both.
Truth hurts!
Fries!
hes uses a computer to find his jokes though
@@pward17 nah he would throw the bitch out if it disagreed with him
Ken West looks a lot different from what I imagined...you should show him more often, we love that guy!!!
I was wondering why my life felt so empty and meaningless for the past couple months and I realized, no Ben Finegold.
frankly ridiculous
You must be living the dream now
And then black super resigned because he is a super grandmaster. He resigns differently than you do.
This line is just gold.
a gold line from finegold
Fine gold
believe it or not this is the video that got me into chess, 3 years ago. Now im an 1800 and improving every day!
you know it's going to be a good Ben Finegold lecture when it has this kind of energy off the bat
Cant say im familiar with many, but youre definitely my favorite grandmaster. The light comedy you employ keeps everything engaging, and you keep it up even in a slow crowd, really good stuff! Keep it up my guy!
finegold is so sarcastic its hilarious

I like how he says moves are "suspicious" as in I suspect the player sucks.
And here I was, thinking Ken West was an arrogant 16 year old
me too.. who would have thought
i thought he's talking about Kanye West ...
Not only is he funny, but he makes me want to study chess. What magic is this!?
Here in 2022! These videos are keeping me alive at work for the moment! More plz!
This all went right over my head. Very insightful

He told the latent potential story in one of his recent streams. 7 years later and it's still in his repertoire
I was falling asleep just when Ben said to wake up. Scary scary times 😂😂
omfg Pulp Fiction and Netflix and chill jokes. Ben is amazing

So you're saying Qxa2 now?
It's mate in 2 or 3 moves with Bxg6+.
I actually dreamt that I met GM Finegold last night. I guess a video lecture will have to suffice for now.
I just today did my commentary on the Fischer, Benko game on my own video channel! KEWL! I loved your analysis! Am enjoying your videos immensely.....
I don't know why I like this guy so much but I'm sure he does. easily my favorite instructure.
It is because he adds humor in his lessons. Most teacher that adds humor will be a favorite among students.

Lie to me was amazingly educational, so true
i really like this Fine Gold,i wish i discovered him earlier
Always a pleasure to watch Ben's lectures for the chess theory and the comedy
Lie to me was a terribly underrated show that was cancelled far too soon. I may be slightly biased, though, I'm a huge fan of Tim Roth.
The pulp fiction quote is what got my subscription
14:31 the queen is trapped, right?
Yes
Yes that’s why he took the bishop
Yeah. I typed "how to play middle game chess" on TH-cam and he's right. I'm very confused.
I love this guy. He is so down to earth and chill. Im going to watch all his videos.
Finegold is definitely the best
Welcome back Ben :D

Great video Ben
Stop trying to wake me up. I watch your videos to go to sleep!

Ben's jokes are getting stale pretty quickly when binging his lessons, but man, do I learn a lot of chess in a very digestable way from him...
Lucky for me I'm not very smart so I'm not good at chess (the lessons are useful) AND my caveman brain thinks the jokes are funny every time.
very entertaining Mr Finegold ... and i got the Envouge jock
