I never get tired of watching you throw things away! I LOVE to decorate for fall, but I do so with real pumpkins and sunflowers from my garden and with colorful leaves and herbs from outside. We eat the pumpkins after, and the rest gets tossed when it doesn't look good anymore, so I don't have to store anything.
Smells create memories so if you want less decor then you can move towards scents - not necessarily candles and waxes but baking, or specific fall meals.
Yes to scents from baking and seasonal squash soups! I also treat myself to decorative gourds and pumpkins inside and out. They can all be composted after Thanksgiving… so they are zero waste, I guess, colourful and natural 😃
Yes, one of the hardest things of loosing my sense of smell (almost only covid symptom) had zero smell from February through about June, trying o come back but it’s so off. I miss smells of the seasons most, but even daily cooking, laundry, dish soap, all kinds of stuff 😞

You've gotten much faster at making these decisions, but do such a great job of explaining your reasoning and the growth that has brought you to this point. Generally, I've pared down my seasonal decor to just a dining table centerpiece, mantle decor and a front door wreath. My mom did all the over-the-top decorations for every holiday when I was a kid, but I have distinct memories of how stressful putting them away and getting the boxes back up in the attic was for the family. It's still a major chore that I have to help her with every year. I'm glad to have just the right amount in my house to bring cheer, without it being a burdensome chore.
Have you noticed, that when you doubt whether you should donate an item that is hard to let go of, you do a deep sigh and then let go of it😌 It makes it very visual, how stress is leaving your body. Hard work, but rewarding! Well done! 👍🏻
I say get a real pumpkin and paint the stems gold. Then compost it later. Or get pie pumpkins. Which is what I do and they sit out as decor for awhile and then I make pies slowly.
We grow pumpkins and squash in back yard and they are supposed to cure in the windowsill so our windowsills look cute lined with orange and yellow squash. I think gardeners have done so for a long time. Anyway it’s festive, zero waste, and nutritious.

I LOVE WATCHING DECLUTTERING VIDEOS WHERE PEOPLE ACTUALLY DECLUTTER!!! I also love that you live in a real home not a grey scale modernist nightmare and smugly tell people that they probably only need five bobby pins, not ten. You live in a real house, with real things, and really declutter. It's fantastic. I can only imagine how mind-blowing it would be if you could gather all of your decluttered stuff into one giant pile how big it would be. You've REALLY got this nailed. SO impressed!!!
This idea was from a long time ago,when my kids were little, we would go leaf picking in the fall. The kids had a wonderful time looking for their favorite color leafs,orange,yellow,red, or a mixture of both , that were scattered all over the ground. We lived in a rural area and the smell of those leaves in the woods were heavenly. After carefully deciding what leaves would make the best collage, the kids laid the leaves out on a long strip of wax paper, next I covered the paper and leaves with another strip of wax paper. Now it was time for magic,with an iron on low ,I ironed the wax papers together,with the leaves between the sheets. It didn’t take long to make a leaf picture. The kids loved it and we would tape the picture up on the glass panel next to the door. The kids decorations from school finished off our home decor, great memories!

It felt like clutter to me as a child and then when she died there were 20 bins that sold for pennies. You did great. Now haul all of that to get it out of your house and off the basement stairs. Sitting there looks like clutter and will still have an affect on your brain as you see it.
Yes! Make removing donations a priority, it’s so worth it to not have their lingering presence passively drag down your energy. In the back of your mind you know they are still there on your silent to-do list and will be a drag until addressed.

If it helps, the "word signs" trend is on it's way out. The new trend in home decor (which I DETEST, but less than word signs) is the decorative pillow "chop". The good news, you can do it with the pillows you already have and it's reversible. 😅

You are getting much faster at your decluttering. One tip I take my donate piles to my car. That way they become a quick stop when I'm out and about. I don't you have awful piles around in my hall or doorway.
I couldn’t agree more! The last thing I need is more reasons to shop for this “seasonal” stuff. I’m more than happy that it’s just at Christmas that I decorate.

"harvest festival" and use hay bails, pumpkins, apples, corn on the cob, sunflowers for a "bit" of decor (I grew up in the countryside, not a city)..and of course we celebrate Halloween with some decor eg the Harvest pumpkins get cut into Jacko-lanterns (it's my favorite festival. But I'm Celtic, so "Samhain" is important to us). I love the big bonfire parties 🤗. But... like with all holidays.. we don't tend to go "overboard" in the UK and Europe! I recently watched an American you tuber that went in a shop.. And said "is this a thing now?"... She was holding up a Fall (or Halloween-I can't remember) toilet 🚽 brush and holder. 😂 Can you imagine having to change out your loo brush each season and then store it🤢.

I have a Christmas mug that I love and last year I decided to keep and use that mug year round and get rid of a mug I don’t love as much. I like having a little bit of Christmas all year.
You can really tell how you love living with less and just weren't going to tolerate decorative CLUTTER even if it was cute. And it's just work too right? Putting it all out, packing it all up, no thanks. Aaahhhh, so satisfying to watch so much go out of your house! And inspiring - I'm in Australia, we don't really do seasonal decorations, apart from Christmas of course - but it just inspires me to let go in general 😊

I'm big on minimalism and you BROKE my heart with the stuff you donated, BUT it is probably because Fall is my absolute favorite! I literally gasped like i was watching a soap opera lol.
I like the owls and gold stemmed pumpkins best. The truck cushion looks classic too. I noticed when you went downstairs, it looked messy but no longer hoarded.. I think that's a huge step forward from your first videos. It's almost all complete. Well done :)

I always try to keep my seasonal decor as just that, not holiday decor. It makes it so much easier becuase you aren’t switching things out multiple times a season.
I’m watching this in September 2022 to get some motivation for this fall. As I’m listening to you I’m realizing that I don’t have the same desire to decorate seasonally as much anymore and a big reason is my age but also that my son is now 26. He still lives at home but I know it doesn’t mean as much to him as when he was a child. I think when your children are young it’s a special thing to do for them. Now I’m imagining if one day I have grandchildren I may enjoy decorating again for the seasons. If that time comes I can always buy some more.🥰
I just decluttered my fall decor last week. I had 2 bins. One for indoor one for outdoor. I keep my fall decor very minimal already. I was able to declutter 4 placemats, a table cloth and several kitchen towels.
Looking great Erica 😀 Last year , I donated all fall decorations, except a small ceramic pumpkin I keep on my countertop and my fall outdoor wreath… and a beautiful fall runner for my dining room table. my whole Rubbermaid was handed to the thrift store filled to the brim Of course my children are grown and were empty nesters, so we really don’t need too much Halloween and fall decor anymore… the one pumpkin gives me all I need Once I donate, I don’t miss a thing, so funny how that is, nothing is missed

I think decorating for whatever you enjoy can be part of living mindfully - living with ritual and beauty - and watching you make decisions on what you loved and wanted in your life and then bless others with the gift of those other items they would treasure - that is the very essence of mindful living.
I started my minimalist journey I think a few months after you and you inspire me to keep putting in the work. I own about five fall decor items but watching the diys and fall clean and decorate videos I'm not going to lie I'm afraid to walk into a store! Everything is so cute! BUT I dont want to spend the money and donate it a few months later either!
That was a great declutter. I don't have much for fall, but have so much Christmas I want to make a start on that in mid October. Seeing you declutter so easily gives me hope!!
I love seasonal decor ....I have the same decor since my children are little...My youngest is going to be 40 in May. I have 1 bin. I do add a real pumpkins and Mums to the mix...but I keep it simple.

Me too! One bin for Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving together, one bin for Easter/Valentines/St. Patty's/4th of July together and a million bins for Christmas. I live in a townhome so it is kind of crazy. When I put it all away after Christmas, it looks like we got robbed as it looks empty haha.

I have a Christmas mug that I love and last year I decided to keep and use that mug year round and get rid of a mug I don’t love as much. I like having a little bit of Christmas all year.
You can really tell how you love living with less and just weren't going to tolerate decorative CLUTTER even if it was cute. And it's just work too right? Putting it all out, packing it all up, no thanks. Aaahhhh, so satisfying to watch so much go out of your house! And inspiring - I'm in Australia, we don't really do seasonal decorations, apart from Christmas of course - but it just inspires me to let go in general 😊

Ha! I bought that same exact shirt but in white. I too didn’t try it on 🥴 I love it but it was to short in the front and I was always tugging it down. I donated it!

I'm big on minimalism and you BROKE my heart with the stuff you donated, BUT it is probably because Fall is my absolute favorite! I literally gasped like i was watching a soap opera lol.
I like the owls and gold stemmed pumpkins best. The truck cushion looks classic too. I noticed when you went downstairs, it looked messy but no longer hoarded.. I think that's a huge step forward from your first videos. It's almost all complete. Well done :)

I think it is so smart to declutter a season of decorations during that season. We are much more realistic about what we will need and use.
I have a shopping addiction and your decluttering helps me think thru my buying habits. Like how I buy stuff because it’s sooo cute, but have no plan on where it’s going to fit in my house or wardrobe.

I always try to keep my seasonal decor as just that, not holiday decor. It makes it so much easier becuase you aren’t switching things out multiple times a season.
I’m watching this in September 2022 to get some motivation for this fall. As I’m listening to you I’m realizing that I don’t have the same desire to decorate seasonally as much anymore and a big reason is my age but also that my son is now 26. He still lives at home but I know it doesn’t mean as much to him as when he was a child. I think when your children are young it’s a special thing to do for them. Now I’m imagining if one day I have grandchildren I may enjoy decorating again for the seasons. If that time comes I can always buy some more.🥰

Congratulations on getting rid of so much fall items! I never had even 1/2 tote full but I got rid of all but 2 items. It's so freeing.
I just decluttered my fall decor last week. I had 2 bins. One for indoor one for outdoor. I keep my fall decor very minimal already. I was able to declutter 4 placemats, a table cloth and several kitchen towels.

Last year , I donated all fall decorations, except a small ceramic pumpkin I keep on my countertop and my fall outdoor wreath… and a beautiful fall runner for my dining room table.
my whole Rubbermaid was handed to the thrift store filled to the brim
Of course my children are grown and were empty nesters, so we really don’t need too much Halloween and fall decor anymore… the one pumpkin gives me all I need
Once I donate, I don’t miss a thing, so funny how that is, nothing is missed

I started my minimalist journey I think a few months after you and you inspire me to keep putting in the work. I own about five fall decor items but watching the diys and fall clean and decorate videos I'm not going to lie I'm afraid to walk into a store! Everything is so cute! BUT I dont want to spend the money and donate it a few months later either!
That was a great declutter. I don't have much for fall, but have so much Christmas I want to make a start on that in mid October. Seeing you declutter so easily gives me hope!!
I love seasonal decor ....I have the same decor since my children are little...My youngest is going to be 40 in May. I have 1 bin. I do add a real pumpkins and Mums to the mix...but I keep it simple.

I enjoy decorating seasonly too. Although, I go full blown maximalist for Christmas. This helps me reduce other seasonal items, so that I can truly feel the punch of maximal Christmas cheer.
Me too! One bin for Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving together, one bin for Easter/Valentines/St. Patty's/4th of July together and a million bins for Christmas. I live in a townhome so it is kind of crazy. When I put it all away after Christmas, it looks like we got robbed as it looks empty haha.

Erica you are looking so great!!! at first I thought I really like your floaty shirt but when you changed to the fitted one i could see how much better you looked in the more figure hugging one, you look phenomenal! I'm so inspired by you! also i like to play a game when you do the decluttering videos. i like to predict what you will keep/donate by the subtle differences on your face, 99% of the time im right. i think it must be the whole spark joy thing, i can see in your face what makes you happy or light up. anyway thanks for another great video! i have been watching your channel right from the start and have been on my own minimalish journey.
