Good on you guys for sharing. That's a big boy drop and the candor of posting this as it happened is cool. Hope your crew skis together for many, many more years!
I went to the top to Corbet's cabin and I walked over to where they have corbet's couloir and there was a crowd of people watching someone go down. I watched and they tumbled and it looked pretty bad because his skis went straight into the snow but he just laid there on his stomach and gave us a thumbs up. I decided to take the tram down instead and go back onto the black diamonds and blue diamonds because im not that advanced yet.
I bet 99% of the people talking shit wouldnt even try this... it looks so easy on video, until you are standing on the cornice looking 15-20 ft down a drop onto an awkward landing. The drop isnt bad, the slope (when you get in) isnt bad. Its the awkward landing. And if there is a goat path, you are lucky. There wasnt for these guys. Props for dropping in on first run. And the first 2 guys looked good.
The Victator Rentals from the 80's. There was no real hope of him making it. If he skied often enough to ski the drop, he would have toasted those skis a generation ago.
AMAZING! I guess people see the rental skis, lack of backpacks/ av gear and lift tickets swinging in the wind and put you guys down for amateurs... but this is an epic video of some very strong skiing. Well done! It looks big in the video, which always makes stuff look smaller... it must be HUGE! If anyone berates you, just gently ask them for the link to their video dropping cliffs and skiing couloirs. Thanks for sharing, looks terrifying and again, well ski'ed!
I went and this was pretty much my experience. It's scary as shit and I cursed a lot. I still can't believe I actually managed to get myself off of that ledge. Good job guys, and awesome video!
Awesome stuff! Screw all the experts sitting behind their keyboards. I'm hitting Big Sky in about 3 weeks and I'm totally psyched and a little intimidated! I'm an East Coast skier and I'm fairly proficient, but we ain't got nothin like that back here. I hope I can work up the testicular fortitude required to hit something like that.
Wow, lots of keyboard warriors, who may think they crush it at their local 900 ft vert mountain but have no idea what this looks like in person. JH summit is quite a trip and Corbets is no joke even for many expert skiers. Glad you guys took the plunge.
A for effort. Takes courage to face challenges with uncertain outcomes, even though this is just recreation, the risks of injury are real. Good on ya for pushing your limits!
Great vid and well done. I'm about as gaper/non-gaper as these intrepid mortals and it just as well could have been me sticking (or yard-sale-ing, depending on the day, ha) the entry. Pity these haters, who yearn to be sending some sick AK line on the ski industry's dime; but they couldn't cut it, so they're here, protesting too much.
Been there, done that in the early 80's. Skinny skis and all. It was an experience. Awesome mountain. There was 12 inches of heavy snow. It was just like Cascade Concrete. Skied it all. Memories..
Any way you slice it corbets is a tough run at the top. no option for side stepping or side slipping into it. These guys get credit for dropping in, because it took guts for them that day. No matter who you are, that mountain will humble you. If it doesn't, Cody peak will. Something that may work for some in these situations is to treat the drop like a big turn, almost like you are skiing really big moguls, and the drop is just another one of them. We have all dropped down a close to or vertical face back in the woods in a routine turn that is taller than this. Take away the rock walls and the triple diamond sign and it is less than you have done many times before, and you were charging in the trees...
Hey, at least they overcame FEAR and did it. I may get to the top of that run and just look over but they did it with whatever skill they had. Respect that.
pretty cool I was there when I was 6 (1987) with my buddy. His uncle our guide told us about Corbet and we could obviously see the danger from where we stood below. It was closed when we were there but he told us how people die every year attempting to take the plunge. It looks scary but as long as you hit it right not a huge deal but anything can happen! LOL thanks for showing me how it looks 20 plus years later!
I never understand why people hate on other people so much. How many people actually do the Corbet in the first place? I mean I know that I will never do it because I don't have the balls to do it and yeah go ahead and bash me for that as well. I have realized that the people that HATE on other people all the time have small genitals and that is where it stems from so hate away. I see GAPERS everyday and these guys are not Gapers at all, they are doing something outside their comfort level and that is what skiing is all about and to bash them for doing that is just stupid and shallow!
exactly: "To Them", not to the rest of the world. Search "Corbet's", there are dozens of high quality, high performance videos, yet this video has the biggest Claim title of them all, why?? Does it warrant that? If it were a crew of 8th graders, it would be totally cool and hilarious. It's juvenile, these guys wreak of cubicle conciousness and are all "hey let's break the internet". Yeah, youtube is for everybody, yeay, but you should respect people too. I've been rickrolled.
+nextari how often do you ski? Have you done Corbets before? Where is your video? So they don't have the right to post whatever type of video just because you don't think they should? That is actually really stupid but I am sure you are an expert skier and cinematographer.
+Jason Van Hoesen Dude. None of that matters, it's not about me being awesome. It's about not false labelling/false advertising your video (not you). Plus these gapers are trying to get money from TH-cam for suckers like me clicking on their video. I never said shit that they shouldn't upload to youtube.
This is a agood point. JH patrol are amazing. The next day Corbet's was closed because they were practicing rescue techniques and rapelling into the chute with taboggans in tow. Truly amazing to watch. Those boys and girls keep us safe for sure.
Typical day in Jackson in January. We skied that 10+ times each back in the 70's, My roommate skied in (did not stop like most at the edge, but went in on the move). Blew out of both Marker Rotomats and slid to the bottom. Best way in is TOWARDS the big rock wall. It is counter-intuitive but it's the best ride. We jumped Crabtree Rock too.....bad deal there !
pretty awesome video, well not the angles and all but considering everything its pretty awesome. cheers for the guy making the drop in and props to the others for attempting.
I liked the straight ski - völkl p10? I am also skiing with those kinds. The people there are not belonging on this track. However only the start is brutal - after the first corner its not so difficult. it did slopes at 85% without stopping before it.
The lip from the top is what would psych me out. Once you're in it I bet your fine. It's the drop in. I want to work up the nerve to try it some time but I'm not sure I will. My father has done it a few times. I've been skiing expert terrain out west including hiking into and out of bowls and stuff all over Colorado and Utah since I was 7 but this run looks on a whole different level. Is it steeper and harder to jump in than Deadbob's chute in Crested butte CO? I had a blast hitting those runs up when I was a kid.
this is anything but epic. Nerve racking to stand at the top debating how to drop in. Biggest mistake was trying to scrap speed after dropping in. I've dropped corbet's before, quite a rush.
Brilliant video ..topman they never look that scary on camera..but the different reactions says it all.. take a look at the grand coulior in 3 valleys france it looks nothing on camera but at a 85% incline its scary as hell....the ridge to it puts many people off.
2:22 "I love you"... LOL, haha... That's what I said when I called someone after being trapped against a wall with some oncoming bears. The bears looked at me like a silly touron. And no, I don't at all think you guys are tourons on rental gear. Thanks for posting!
Most of the commenters here never even skied the Village much less Corbett's. Considering the lack of snow in the chute and the hard landing, these guys are lucky they didn't wind up in the cave. I give them Kudos for dropping in.
In all seriousness though good for them everyone gotta start some wear. It may look easy for some but for some it can be something real scary good job guys
Proof's in the pudding. This was dangerous for you guys. Three of you couldn't keep yourselves upright. The one guy couldn't self-arrest. Honestly, it's lucky that nobody was hurt.
How old is this video, those Volkl skis look like they are from the early 1990's? Someone in your group holding out on the new-fangled "parabolic" skis lol?
cool vid guys! thanks for sharing. Oh and I know Im going to sound ignorant but. Whats a gaper? lol Im Canadian and ski ok ( i think )but. Never heard the term. I hope Im not one..lol And someone mentioned a Jerry. never heard that term either.
So many damn keyboard warriors on here! Sure, it's always good to see a video of the pros or highly skilled amateurs doing their thing, but it can also be fun just watching a group of people have fun whether it's skiing, Spartan racing, etc. I figure many haters probably do not have much skill if any at all along with no fitness. If you are a highly skilled athlete and still feel the need to hate on others, you have some serious psychological issues.
People just haven't been skiing before, they don't understand how hard stuff like this can be. They also don't understand how much the camera downplays the size and steepness of the runs...
People who are hating on this video have likely not stood on the top of coberts before. Even if you've skied down it, corbets can range from no drop necessary (you can skid down the top portion to where it levels out) if there has been a TON of snow, to this. To make matters worse, visibility is low, and you can't tell how hard the landing will be. One person made the drop and hit solid ice so hard that they broke their tibia and it went through their ski boot. Corbets has a major pucker factor
This video has so many dislikes because: 1.) you got the massive group of casual people who just stumbled on this video who never ski. They were expecting some mission impossible type shit with Michael Bay explosions and don't understand just how fast this could wrong in real life... ...then 2.) you got a massive group of people who ski very often, so often that they search ski videos on TH-cam just to get their fix.. so to them, this video is far from impressive Then you got a group of people who have skied a few times so they understand the risk of doing a steep drop in by jagged rocks, but havent hit the slopes enough for this to seem unchallenging.
I have been skiing since I was 3 and so I've been skiing for about.. 10 years and me being able to go down black diamonds I am still very impressed and would never do that until I'm like.. 30 not older though because that's a little too old but anyways I'm switching to snowboarding I've been doing it more often and I can't imagine snowboarding down that because ever since I did 7 years of skiing I have only fell like 3 times because skiing you fall less but snowboarding your legs are trapped and if you fall your snowboard doesn't just fall off like skis otherwise you have a ghost rider. Falling always happens no matter how good you are so I'd be really impressed to see a snowboarder go down this. But anyways I do get on the slopes at least 3 times a year. We go Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Ski Week. I don't know if you've ever been to Jacksonhole but there are posters of this 10 year old pro skier who went down Corbet's Couloir when he was 7 and thats like amazing I'm sorry I talk too much wow this is really long why not make it longer the next part is just not important because nobody would read this much: The Emoji Movie unlocks the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone. Hidden within the messaging app is Textopolis, a bustling city where all your favorite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone's user. In this world, each emoji has only one facial expression - except for Gene, an exuberant emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. Determined to become "normal" like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his handy best friend Hi-5 and the notorious code breaker emoji Jailbreak. Together, they embark on an epic "app-venture" through the apps on the phone, each its own wild and fun world, to find the Code that will fix Gene. But when a greater danger threatens the phone, the fate of all emojis depends on these three unlikely friends who must save their world before it's deleted forever.Inside each smartphone are these small faces and items called Emojis. To me it seems like turning sharply after your in is a very bad idea, you have to go straight down until you hit the softer powder because everyone wiping out scrapes the first bit clean and if u turn you will slide onto your back.
Vasich lolcode agreed, turns are where you get into trouble. It can be scary but you just gotta bomb it (at least on a snowboard I would, maybe even more crucial on skis) But its exhilerating.
Corbet's has high sphincter factor no matter what. From this vid it looks like you had a LOT of snow packed into Corbet's. Every time I've dropped in (and there have been many many times I looked and did not), the first bit was pure free-fall from 12-20 feet.
Guys got bigger nuts than me! Although, if I went I'd need to steer clear of it - I'd be tempted! And I'm not consistent enough on the ungroomed snow...my luck my skis anchor into the snow on drop and I'd go over the handlebars and tumble into some granite!
I think I shit my pants just watching you guys lol You have to have balls of steel to do that, I will be in Jackson Hole this Xmas and I will not try that at all..I thought I had balls of steel lol I'm giving credit where credit is due!!
dropping into this has to be a similar feeling to skydiving. I have skydived before and the feeling of looking over the edge of the plane is unreal. nothing between you and the landscape 14000 feet below. I have never dropped into anything that scary tho skiing
Ryan DeLena "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" is a quotation from the 1602 play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Yeah, Billy S knows nuthin' 'bout speakin' words. If you think skiing doesn't involve physics, then you need a lesson from a level 4 coach... www.psia-nw.org/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=110
ok maybe the top drop in is 55 but the rest is only about 30 degrees, which is about as steep as a blue square run, if you want to see a run thats 50-55 degrees, ski the big couloir at big sky montana , ive done it, its ridicules
Yup. The Big is WAY gnarlier, not to mention the Little which is even worse. That's not to say Jackson doesn't have plenty of gnarly runs, though. It's just that Corbet's is probably their most famous due to the entry. Jackson has way harder runs than that.
Yeah, the kid on the old planks gets bonus points, yeeha-ard sale or not, that was like throwing lawn-darts at that compressed pow, where you guys at least had some float. Props for not backing down though, it's more than a bit daunting the first time in, but at least you had good conditions to F-up on. Now go grab a PB-Banana waffle for your efforts. ;-)
I have done this. The skiers in this clip makes it look easy compared to what you actually feel standing there. It is legit very high and very scary.
I dig the 3rd guys planks, reppin the 50s
I was thinking 80's Dynastars or something like that. I stopped the vid trying to identify them but couldn't
They r Völkls. Look kinda like P10s from the 80s

MY exact thought process. Also with trees
Good on you guys for sharing. That's a big boy drop and the candor of posting this as it happened is cool. Hope your crew skis together for many, many more years!
That's the most fun part about skiing; doing something that gets the heart racing as a group! I seek to live those types of days again.
I love all the people on here pretending they would just hop off and stomp it at the age of 5
I went to the top to Corbet's cabin and I walked over to where they have corbet's couloir and there was a crowd of people watching someone go down. Awesome! I'm laughing and my palms are sweating. Nicely done!

A group of tourists with rental gear on top of Corbet's; a ski patroller's dream
Read the intro and you'll realize how wrong you are...
nah, he's right, you're "intro" is bs, makes you come off even more as a tourist. no hate, have fun, just don't act like you're something you're not.
Proof's in the pudding. This was dangerous for you guys. Three of you couldn't keep yourselves upright. The one guy couldn't self-arrest. Honestly, it's lucky that nobody was hurt.
That word ‘experts’ gets thrown around way too frequently. You can ski 100 days a year and still be intermediate.
I patrolled for my dinner for four years. Thanks for the chuckle on the rental gear part!
Skied this many times. Whenever it's that soft, it's a piece of cake. If you can make the first two turns you're good to go.
looks like thick snowpack at the top? it looks easier with less snow, I think the entry is easier
Hope you guys had your rental ski binding DIN settings turned up for this
went to jackson hole for spring break but chickened out on corbets. that shit's crazy
How old is this video, those Volkl skis look like they are from the early 1990's? Someone in your group holding out on the new-fangled "parabolic" skis lol?
Glad ya'll had fun and didn't get hurt. But seriously this is sooo ridicuously easy..and I'm a girl
This may be missed...cuz it has been 7 years....but you are a moron and probably not a girl
cool vid guys! thanks for sharing. Oh and I know Im going to sound ignorant but. Whats a gaper? lol Im Canadian and ski ok ( i think )but. Never heard the term. I hope Im not one..lol And someone mentioned a Jerry. never heard that term either.
well, I'm not too sure why people are saying bad things. This is pretty admirable that you even tried it and got down it
So im from Canada guys and i want to hit this drop. What mountain resort is this and is the trail called corbet?
Jackson Hole, Corbet's couloir. Good luck.
thank you
Chad-We missed you on this one.... Nice job finding the video. How's the snow in Jackson?
It reminds me of the top of High Rustler at Alta.
High Boy is way more fun than Corbet's! YEW!
i love alta
Interesting entry. Most videos I see people dropping in on the right hand side. The left side where you went in looks like a more precipitous drop.
Downhill D Miller good point
People just haven't been skiing before, they don't understand how hard stuff like this can be. They also don't understand how much the camera downplays the size and steepness of the runs...
I'm a decent snowboarder and horrible skier. It's great to see regular guys kicking some ass!
That was outstanding. But when I saw the skis, I would've guessed that that was "yard sale guy".
Awesome , BRAVO guys !!!
They were expecting some mission impossible type shit with Michael Bay explosions and don't understand just how fast this could wrong in real life...
...then 2.) you got a massive group of people who ski very often, so often that they search ski videos on TH-cam just to get their fix.. so to them, this video is far from impressive
Then you got a group of people who have skied a few times so they understand the risk of doing a steep drop in by jagged rocks, but havent hit the slopes enough for this to seem unchallenging.
I don't like this movie at all so don't think I do.
+Boston Terrier - No one is going to read through that wall of incomprehensible text. Break your shit up into paragraphs.
Green and blue slopes at kept up and monitored resorts are much more fun. They are also a great deal safer.
To me it seems like turning sharply after your in is a very bad idea, you have to go straight down until you hit the softer powder because everyone wiping out scrapes the first bit clean and if u turn you will slide onto your back.
did I just stumble upon pov of the denver bro-pack before i joined?
What exactly is a "Gaper"?
This is more of what the world needs.Drop cliffs not bombs!
didn't feel like cropping out the first 3 minutes?
Great drop-ins, IMO - go dudes, you did it and survived with a whoop and a smile - dig-it!!!!!!!!! Wahooooo
is this like what penta black diamond or something
Drop in take a hard left turn to slow down then soft right when you get round the corner. It wouldn't be beautiful but it works
Hard left gets you into the rock cut. You mean the other left ... right?
yeh other way around
u just have to go with it. just drop and ride it out.
ppl always try to slow down instantly when they shoudnt be.
Vasich lolcode agreed, turns are where you get into trouble. It can be scary but you just gotta bomb it (at least on a snowboard I would, maybe even more crucial on skis) But its exhilerating.
Done corsets drop acouple times, still scary af standing at the top of it
Corbet's has high sphincter factor no matter what. From this vid it looks like you had a LOT of snow packed into Corbet's. Every time I've dropped in (and there have been many many times I looked and did not), the first bit was pure free-fall from 12-20 feet.
what were you guys doing there? You got balls that's for sure.
Is that at whistler
jackson hole
Guys got bigger nuts than me! Although, if I went I'd need to steer clear of it - I'd be tempted! And I'm not consistent enough on the ungroomed snow...my luck my skis anchor into the snow on drop and I'd go over the handlebars and tumble into some granite!
Timothy Dannenhoffer WELCOME TO MY WORLD
I think I shit my pants just watching you guys lol You have to have balls of steel to do that, I will be in Jackson Hole this Xmas and I will not try that at all..I thought I had balls of steel lol I'm giving credit where credit is due!!
It's certainly not for the faint of heart! Jackson is awesome! Enjoy your xmas there!
Didn't look too bad. You didn't have to jump or anything; just ski straight down :)
dropping into this has to be a similar feeling to skydiving. I have skydived before and the feeling of looking over the edge of the plane is unreal. nothing between you and the landscape 14000 feet below. I have never dropped into anything that scary tho skiing
those are some pointy skis
hahah
Always wanted to do Corbets. Respect.
Using a simple formula for constant acceleration you'd have to fall 37 meters to reach 60mph. Looks like a
i dont need to know physics to drop into chutes and couloirs
Ryan DeLena & yet you speculate the chute is 30° vs 55°. Is that "ridicules" as you put it, or ridiculous. Methinks the latter.
ok so i compared the two slops ,thats not physics
and if were talking about typos methinks isn't a word
Ryan DeLena "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" is a quotation from the 1602 play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Yeah, Billy S knows nuthin' 'bout speakin' words. If you think skiing doesn't involve physics, then you need a lesson from a level 4 coach...

guess what, i don't care
if your so smart, what are you doing on youtube arguing with 12 year olds
LMAO. thanks for the laughs! LOL
ok maybe the top drop in is 55 but the rest is only about 30 degrees, which is about as steep as a blue square run, if you want to see a run thats 50-55 degrees, ski the big couloir at big sky montana , ive done it, its ridicules
i meant to say ridiculous, not ridicules
typo
Yup. The Big is WAY gnarlier, not to mention the Little which is even worse. That's not to say Jackson doesn't have plenty of gnarly runs, though. It's just that Corbet's is probably their most famous due to the entry. Jackson has way harder runs than that.
true
Epic is a strong word for this. Lets compromise and say weak as fuck
Lovin' the straight skis.
inexperienced skiers in a spot where they shouldn't be. is the proper title
+Tom C You go show them how its done Tom! We're all depending on you to save the day! You're pretty much our hero and a well known badass!
:) Where's that? I want it :)
Ive been there looking down that thing. Unreal. Then I saw a video of a guy doing a back flip into it..
I was watching this during lunch that was awesome
Yeah, the kid on the old planks gets bonus points, yeeha-ard sale or not, that was like throwing lawn-darts at that compressed pow, where you guys at least had some float.
Props for not backing down though, it's more than a bit daunting the first time in, but at least you had good conditions to F-up on. Now go grab a PB-Banana waffle for your efforts. ;-)
As soon as I saw 0:40, I am like " That's death, mmhm."
